Ms. McKayMy name is Suanne McKay and I will be teaching fifth grade at Hunter. I am

very excited about the new school year and the journey we will experience!!! My

family and I are originally from Harnett County where I taught for many years.

“Falcon Pride” I am a graduate of St. Augustine’s College where I received a

degree in Business Administration. I received my Masters in Marketing

Education from NC State University. In 2014 I concluded my studies at Campbell

University receiving a Masters in School Administration. Teaching is a my

passion and I am very fortunate to have a career that touches the lives of so

many children and their families.

I look forward to making community connections and guiding our children to their beautiful futures!!!!

Ms. TuckerI am so looking forward to a terrific year at Hunter GT Elementary! This is my 11th year as a 5th grade teacher and my 23rd year of teaching. I have my master’s degree in Elementary Education and am certified to teach the Academically Gifted. I taught at Fuller GT for several years and I am very familiar with the magnet setting. I'm so excited to be back into the magnet setting again at Hunter.

Ms. WootenWelcome to the school year! I love teaching math and science and this year is my 21st year in fifth grade at Hunter. My teaching philosophy includes project-based and inquiry-based instruction with the integration of technology. Making connections to the real world is vital to a firm understanding of the math and science content. My certifications include K-6 education, AIG, and middle school mathematics. I received my undergraduate degrees from Meredith College and Master’s degree (Curriculum and Instruction: Development and Supervision) from NC State. http://carolwooten.weebly.com

Ms. Worley

Ms. Worley was born and raised in Chapel Hill, North

Carolina. She graduated from Appalachian State

University and got her Gifted Licensure at Duke

University. She has been teaching since 2000 and has

been teaching at Hunter since 2013. Ms. Worley is an

avid reader and especially loves the Harry Potter series.

In her free time, she enjoys cooking, doing puzzles, and

spending time with friends and family. During basketball

season, you can find Ms. Worley cheering on the Tar

Heels. Most of all, Ms. Worley loves being a teacher!

English Language Arts (EL)

EL is a reading and writing program that integrates learning with science and social studies curriculum.

Science Curriculum● Weather (investigating weather systems)

● Motion and Design (basic physics through the exploration of K-Nex vehicles)

● Human Body Systems (how the systems of the body work together, technology integration)

● Ecosystems (construction of a model ecosystem using 2-liter bottles, interdependence of plants and animals)

● Our schools STARS expectations are Safety,

Teamwork, Attitude, Respect and Self-Discipline.

Expectations are taught and reinforced throughout the

year and posted around the building as a reminder of

what each aspect looks like in different areas

throughout the school. We believe, if you "expect it," (a

particular behavior,) then you must "teach it," positively, fairly, and to all students.

● Fifth grade will hold student-led conferences on Thursday, November 1st for Ms. Tucker and Mrs. McKay’s classes. Student-led conferences will be held on Friday, November 2nd for Mrs. Wooten and Ms. Worley’s classes.

● More details and times will be sent home in the Monday folder during October.
