Welcome to the Fusion Futbol Club Family
We are happy that you have selected Fusion Futbol Club (Fusion FC). To help you become
familiar with the club, we have prepared this Parent Handbook that will answer many questions
you may have about the club, its philosophy, and its policies regarding practice, try-outs, costs,
camps, and more.
Fusion FC is dedicated to the development of highly skilled soccer players who
have respect for themselves, for the game, and for those around them.
Participation in the club requires a significant commitment from both players and
parents.
As a member of Fusion FC, you and your child have the privilege to represent one of the most
recognized, prestigious, and quickly expanding clubs in Southern California. For this reason, the
standards of behavior are very high. The way coaches conduct practice, the way players
behave on and off the field, and the conduct of our supporters on the side lines are all extremely
important. We hope you have taken into consideration the uniqueness of such an opportunity
and we expect that the players will understand the requirements and demands of participating in
the club. Please review this Parent Handbook with your child.
We ask all parents to become involved in Fusion FC, from educating yourself on the rules of the
game, to helping set-up equipment and fields during practice and games, and cleaning up
personal belongings and trash after every practice and game. It takes a coordinated effort to run
a successful club and many times those duties tend to fall on the shoulders of a few. For this
reason, we are always looking for volunteers and earnestly solicit your assistance and
participation. We hope that you and your child will have an enjoyable and rewarding
experience.
What is Fusion FC?
Fusion FC is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization devoted to fostering the talents of a diverse
group of players serious about the sport of soccer, as well as assisting these athletes to
maintain high levels of self-esteem, discipline, academic performance, and citizenship within
their school and community. Fusion FC is dedicated to assisting all boys and girls regardless of
race, ethnicity, or economic circumstance. Through fundraising efforts and a dedicated team of
volunteers, we work hard to enable all players committed to the sport of soccer an opportunity to
participate.
As a result of much hard work and generous volunteer hours, Fusion FC has gone from one
team since its inception in 2000 to four teams and counting. Many former players have gone on
to collegiate level play and some have become professional soccer players. We have assisted
numerous players in improving their school work, their relationships, and their overall outlook on
the future. The players appreciate their role in the community and have participated in
philanthropic efforts to improve the Los Angeles area.
How does Fusion FC work?
Fusion FC is a year-round structured program consisting of league competition, tournaments,
and tournament competition. Fusion FC consistently involves the training of athletes in basic
and advanced soccer skills. Fusion FC also emphasizes overall health maintenance and offers
information on proper diet, nutrition, and exercise. Fusion FC often invites nearby teams to
come and train with our players which exposes them to a variety of athletes from all areas.
2
Fusion Futbol Club Philosophy
Mission Statement: Fusion Futbol Club is committed to becoming the center for soccer
excellence in the Los Angeles area, dedicated to teaching the game of soccer to youth athletes
in a positive environment.
Fusion FC does not only demand exceptional dedication and skills, but also mature outlook
towards competition, which engenders respect for other kids and officials. Through participation
in competitive soccer, kids are afforded the opportunity to learn real-world principles which will
be utilized throughout their lives. Fusion FC emphasizes winning through teamwork. It is
important that players learn that there is an important difference between assertive, competitive
play and unnecessary aggression. This concept is reinforced by the coaching staff, which
emphasizes that players use all practices and games as learning experiences. Through this
approach, the coaches strive to channel the highly competitive instincts of our players in ways
that will enable them to become better athletes and citizens.
Club Affiliation
Fusion FC competes in the California State Soccer Association - South (Cal South), a 501(c)3
California public benefit corporation and is the official youth and adult state soccer association
of the United States Soccer Federation (USSF), United States Youth Soccer (USYS), and
United States Adult Soccer Association (USASA). The USSF is, in turn, a member of the
Federation International de Futbol Association (FIFA), the international governing body for the
sport of soccer. All of our rules and policies are derived from the international FIFA rules with
modifications to accommodate our youth players. Fusion FC currently operates under the
umbrella of North Valley Soccer Club.
Cal South represents over 300 Affiliate Member Leagues and Clubs comprising a membership
of more than 204,000 registered players, coaches, referees, and league administrators. The
organization, with a service area that extends from San Luis Obispo to San Diego, provides
rewarding recreational and competitive opportunities for players of all ages, genders, and skill
levels.
Club Administration
Board of Directors – Fusion FC is led by a volunteer Board of Directors. Each board member is
committed to the development of Fusion FC players and the success of all teams within the
club. Officers include President, VP of Operations, VP of Development, Secretary, Treasurer,
and Members At Large. The Board is responsible for the oversight of club operations including,
but not limited to, appointing Director of Coaching, tracking and reconciling all financial activities
within the club and resolving any financials concerns from club members, approval of
tournament participation upon recommendation of Director of Coaching, and all other activities
of Fusion FC. The Board Members are all unpaid volunteers and are available to all players and
parents with questions and concerns.
Director of Coaching – The Director of Coaching is appointed by the Board and serves as
director of club calendar (including regular season and off season tournament schedules, as
well as other club activities such as clinics, camps, conditioning events, and scrimmages). This
individual is also responsible for the recruitment, training, and management of all Fusion FC
coaches.
Coaching Personnel - Fusion FC coaches are considered part of the Club support structure.
The club will assign to each team a licensed Head Coach (and Assistant Coaches) who will
3
have overall responsibility for each team (i.e., practice organization, team discipline, player
substitution, game tactics). Your Head Coach should be your first contact in all soccer related
matters. Please give the Coaches your support and assistance at all times. All Fusion FC
Coaches are held to the highest standards of coaching and personal conduct.
Team Manager – The Team Manager is a crucial volunteer member of our administrative team.
At Fusion FC, the Team Managers handle the administrative tasks for each team, such as
weekly email communications, team roster info, uniform orders, tournament plans, and the
many other items that enable the Coaches to focus their attention on coaching. Although
managers serve as administrators for each team, and are responsible for facilitating
communication between the parents, the Coaches, and the club, Team Managers do not have
authority concerning selection of players, selection of coaches, or the removal of players or
coaches. All administrative questions go to the Team Manager. If you are interested in
becoming a Team Manager, or assisting the Team Manager, please contact one of your
Coaches.
Other Volunteers – Fusion FC is a non-profit organization and need volunteers. If you have a
desire to serve the club in any capacity, we have an opportunity for you! The demands of
running a successful soccer program are tremendous and there are always ways in which a
parent can make a very important contribution to their child’s team. If you are interested in
volunteering, talk to your coach or a Board Member.
Player Evaluations and Tryouts
Player Evaluation and Selection: Player performance will be evaluated by observing the player
in tryouts, training, scrimmages, and/or games. Only the Director of Coaching and the Head
Coach of each team will discuss the player evaluation and selection. Fusion FC will evaluate
players in several categories:
1. Personality Traits - strength of character, discipline, leadership, competitiveness,
creativity, and ability to take instruction
2. Physical Ability - strength, speed, endurance, coordination & agility
3. Technical Proficiency - (skill) receiving, passing, dribbling, shooting, heading, juggling
and use of both feet
4. Tactical Awareness (reading the game) - decision-making, with/without the ball, vision
and feel for the game, positioning, marking, timing and anticipation
5. Commitment - regular attendance and participation in team and club functions
6. Match Day Preparation and Performance
Tryouts: Players can try out for a Fusion FC team by contacting the Coach of the team they
wish to tryout for and/or attending annual tryouts conducted under the supervision of the
Director of Coaching. Players can also be evaluated and placed on teams while attending
Fusion FC Camps and/or Clinics. Players involved in the Development Program will be
observed and evaluated by Development Program staff and competitive teams will be formed
beginning at the U8 level.
Try-outs are open to all players, including players from other clubs. The commitment for a player
to the competitive program after selection requires a full year. Players are financially responsible
for, and expected to participate in, the fall league season as well as all of the team’s scheduled
tournaments throughout the year. Teams in the competitive program will compete under the
name Fusion FC, combined with their age group classification (B99, B02, B05, B06, G02, etc)).
4
Uncommitted players earning a spot can be added to a team at any time. January to April will be
the regular open tryout period for all ages as conducted under the supervision of the Director of
Coaching. After the open tryouts have concluded, the club will continue to allow tryouts for each
team at each team practice. Players will need the approval of the team Coach and the Director
of Coaching to participate at the team tryouts after the official open tryout period. All players will
be evaluated throughout the season during practice and games. The Director of Coaching along
with the team’s Head Coach will determine which players play on which team, this will also
include decisions regarding playing up an age group.

Below is a detailed explanation of expected costs:
1. Fusion Futbol Club Fees: Fees are paid monthly. The club year runs from January 1 –
December 31, and includes CYSA, Southern California Developmental Soccer League
registration fees, League Cup Registration, maintenance, permits, coaching staff, lights,
equipment. We are a non-profit corporation and we do not receive city or county funds.
We make every effort possible to keep our expenses at a reasonable level.
2. Uniforms: Please keep uniforms in good condition. They are intended to last through at
least two full years of season and off season play. Anyone needing to replace pieces of
their uniform kits will need to contact their Team Manager.
3. Tournaments: All tournament expenses are shared by team members, splitting the cost
of team registration evenly throughout the team. Every player must pay the fee to
participate in the tournament(s).
4. Financial Aid: If a player wishes to apply for financial aid or special payment
arrangements, they must submit a completed Financial Aid Application to the Fusion FC
Board of Directors for consideration at the time of registration and annually by December
1st. There are very limited funds available for this purpose, and requests will be reviewed
and prioritized at the sole discretion of the Fusion FC Board.
Financial Aid Policy
At the time of joining Fusion FC, parents are given this handbook. A Financial Aid Application
can be provided upon request. Families applying for aid must turn the application into the team
manager or send to the club. Fusion FC is committed to excellence in youth soccer. In pursuit of
this commitment, we believe that:
Fees for all players should be kept at the minimum level permitting full Club operation
Fundraising by the Club must be pursued with the full support of all players, parents,
and their families
Sponsorship should be solicited to reduce the costs of Club operations and to provide
assistance to players including financial aid
The Board of Directors will hold all financial assistance in the strictest confidence
It is Club policy to limit aid availability only to members in good standing. If other financial
obligations are not met, the player may lose eligibility for aid and not be allowed to train or
register to play the following year.
6
Refund Policy
Only under special circumstances may someone be granted a partial refund of annual dues and
all refunds require approval from the Board of Directors. In no case will a refund or partial refund
be granted for worn training and/or competitive gear.
Payment Default:
Fusion FC is a membership organization. Unpaid dues represent funds not available to meet
Club expenses. The Team Managers are involved in the process of collecting money. Any
player delinquent in dues will be notified by the Team Manager and prohibited from participating
in any Club and/or training until the debt is paid. You will be notified of all Non-Payment of dues
in writing (typically by email) and the appropriate paper work will be filed with Cal South. Any
dues unpaid from prior year must be paid before you may register for the new season. Players
not meeting minimum payments per their selected payment schedule are subject to having
training and membership privileges revoked.
Drop Policy:
If a player drops or is dropped from the Club, the CYSA Drop/Transfer request must be filed
with the Club's Registrar. The effective date will always be the date the registrar processes the
drop. If a player requests a release from the team after July 1st, any and all annual outstanding
balance must be paid in full before we will sign the release form.
Also, please note carefully that any Drop or Drop/Transfer requests made during CalSouth's
official Roster Freeze periods will be contested by the club since losing players during the
crucial Freeze periods severely compromises the integrity of the team.
Special Notes
Special Note 1: Club policy is to allow Coaches to train more than one team in the club. Therefore
it is inevitable that Coaches will on occasion be unable to attend certain games. Every effort will
be made by the Club to arrange for substitute coaches.
Special Note 2: Club soccer is a competitive environment. Efforts are made to attract good soccer
players during tryouts and throughout the year. Rosters will change. Your son/daughter may not
practice on the day or at the time you desire, play the position you desire, or play the amount of
time you desire in a game.
These are realities of Club soccer, none of which have any effect on your commitment to pay
the membership dues. By signing this contract, you agree to abide by the rules, policies, and
procedures of Fusion FC and be governed by its representatives. The Board meets bi-monthly
and encourages member to submit their concerns, comments, etc.
Soccer Calendar
The Director of Coaching will present a schedule to the Fusion FC Board prior to the beginning
of the each season. Once approved, the Director of Coaching will send information to Team
Managers regarding tournament schedules. The Team Managers will then disseminate
information to the parents. Any questions regarding scheduled games or tournaments should be
addressed with your Team Manager and/or Head Coach.
7
Uniform and Individual Player Equipment Policy
Every time a player wears the Fusion FC uniform, they are automatically representing the club
and should wear the uniform properly. Make certain that you have proper equipment, and bring
them to each practice and game. Proper fitting shoes and shin guards are essential and we
encourage every player to check with your team coach for specific individual equipment they
may require players to have at each practice and/or game. Fusion FC will not permit players or
parents to wear another soccer team’s attire while attending Fusion FC functions.
Player Game Day Preparation
Each player is asked to arrive at the game well rested and mentally and physically prepared to
play their best. Your child cannot make that commitment if he or she does not get proper rest
and has not eaten properly. Soccer is a very demanding sport. The following are some simple
suggestions:
1. Avoid sleep-over parties on the night before a game. More than a few soccer games
have been unknowingly “forfeited” due to fatigue as a result of too little sleep and/or
dehydration due to the consumption of soda and/or other sugary beverages and food
items
2. Start drinking water as much as 24 hours before the game, and try to take in as much
proper fluid as possible right up to game time
3. Eat sensibly, especially on the day of a game
4. Half-time refreshments should be limited to a moderate amount of water, or perhaps a
diluted sports drink
5. Arrive at each game in plenty of time to warm-up properly. The Coach will provide your
team with a game schedule and the time that players are supposed to arrive prior to the
game. An appropriate pre-game warm-up is of vital importance. Prepare properly to
maximize performance and avoid injuries
6. Treat minor injuries promptly and properly. For muscle strains and bruises, remember
that ice and rest are the best methods for a quick recovery. Your team should arrange to
have ice available at every game for quick application to twisted ankles or knees. Let
your coach know before practice or game of any condition that might affect your ability to
play
Games are considered on until called off even if it is raining, the games will be played unless
there is a threat of lightning or the fields have been closed. This applies to even the youngest
age groups. Soccer is a game that is played in all weather conditions, and it is necessary that all
players and parents learn that this is part of the commitment to the game. It is the responsibility
of the home team to advise the visiting team coach of any game cancellations. Again, please
contact your Coach or Team Manager if you have doubts. If you have not heard from your
Coach or Team Manager, please show up at the game to insure that your team does not forfeit.
Tournament Play, Participation, and Requirements
Tournament play is an important part of playing soccer at club level. Tournaments give you the
opportunity to play several games in a short period of time. The opportunity for frequent
repetition of skills and tactics is often the key to improvement for players and teams. Because of
the importance of tournament play to the development of a team, all Fusion FC players are
expected to participate. This means that all players will share in team tournament expenses.
8
The Head Coach would provide information about tournament possibilities. In addition to the
tournaments during the summer Fusion FC also participates in tournaments on Thanksgiving
weekend, Labor Day weekend, Memorial Day weekend, as well as State Cup Competition.
During tournament play, our teams will be allowed to take guest players from other teams within
the Club or from outside teams.
Please Note: You must first consult your Coach before speaking to a non-Fusion FC player
about appearing as a guest player with your team, and before you talk with another team about
being a guest with them.
Rules for Game and Practice Facilities
To help us keep the fields in better condition, we ask that you always observe, and remind
others to observe, a few special rules.
1. Review and adhere to all posted signs and rules at the different facilities. Most locations
are not pet friendly. Plan ahead, be informed, and do not bring your pet to a game or
practice.
2. Do not leave trash behind on the field
3. Please be especially careful and drive slowly when entering and leaving each facility
4. Take special precautions when the ground is wet
5. Soccer nets and goals are expensive –treat them with respect
6. When practicing at the turf field, water is the only liquid allowed on the field, and no food
is allowed
Regular Season Games and Practice Facilities
The home fields for Fusion FC during the regular season are Woodland Hills Academy,
Lawrence Middle School, Portola Middle School, and Frost Middle School. In addition, Fusion
FC practices at fields in Balboa Park, Sepulveda Basin Sports Complex Turf Field, and various
LA City Parks as needed.
Practice Routine
Without regular and proper practice, soccer skills and tactics cannot be mastered. We demand
of the Fusion FC coaches a tremendous commitment of their time, and we expect the Fusion
FC players to be willing to make the same commitment. We know that many of our players have
other interests and demands on their time, but we believe it very important that players make
every effort to attend every practice session. Fusion FC teams generally practice two times
each week during the year. Players are expected to wear Fusion FC practice attire and to bring
their cleats, shin guards, water, and ball to each practice. It is essential to stay current in your
Fusion FC fees to ensure your child’s opportunity to train at Fusion FC remains in good
standing. Coaches will not train players with fee delinquencies where approval has not been
granted by the Fusion FC Board.
In the event of rain or inclement weather, please assume that practice continues as scheduled
unless you receive cancellation notice from your Team Manager. The Head Coach will call the
Team Manager to report rain-outs. At times, your Coach may schedule an indoor practice or
soccer video session in lieu of an outdoor practice.
9
Team Practice Rules
It is important to come to practice regularly and Team Managers have been instructed by the
Head Coaches to monitor attendance at every practice. You cannot miss practice or practice
poorly and expect to improve. If there is a problem attending a practice, the Coaches must be
notified in advance and the reason for the absence must be provided.
Proper practice means that you:
a) Completely focus your attention on the coaches when they are giving instructions or
feedback
b) Give 100% effort to improve your skills at practice
c) Practice at game speed (learning to do a skill in slow motion will not help in a game)
d) Do not distract others at practice (e.g., acting silly while attempting a drill is distracting to
others)
e) Show up 10 minutes early to have time to prepare so practice can start on time.
Practice Guidelines
1. Practice uniforms are mandatory; players without practice uniform will not be able to
practice. Wear team practice uniform, black shorts, and black socks
2. The players’ belongings will be placed in line, five feet from any sideline, wherever there
is space that will not interfere with the practice
3. Absolutely no necklaces, bracelets, rings, watches, or any other kind of jewelry will be
allowed during practice
4. Tape of any color other than the color of the player’s socks to secure your shin guards
will not be allowed. This also applies during games and tournaments
5. Keep your hair away from your eyes at all times
Game Guidelines
1. Jerseys will always be tucked into shorts
2. Socks will be pulled up whenever you have them on
3. Have your equipment bag with you at all games
4. Absolutely no necklaces, bracelets, rings, watches, or any other kind of jewelry allowed
during games.
Disciplinary Actions
This Parent Handbook presents in clear detail exactly what will be expected of you and what
you can expect of the Club, the team, and the Coaches. If you are uncertain what is expected, it
is your responsibility to ask one of your Coaches. Knowing and understanding these things,
your participation in the Club will be positive for you as you develop your soccer abilities to the
highest level possible. We have expectations of the Club, the team, the coaches, and you.
These expectations are really the rules, regulations, and policies for Fusion FC. So that you and
every player in our Club can get the maximum benefit, we need you and every player to abide
by Club rules, regulations, and policies. If disciplinary action is necessary, the following steps
may be taken:
1. The player’s Head Coach and/or Director of Coaching will discuss the problem directly
and privately with the player, with the expectation that the problem will be corrected
immediately
10
2. If the problem persists, the player’s Head Coach and/or Director of Coaching will
communicate with the player’s parent(s) to discuss the problem and lack of response on
the part of the player. Parents will have the opportunity to be involved with correction of
the problem at this time
3. If the problem still continues, the player’s Head Coach and/or Director of Coaching may
temporarily suspend the player from training. If the situation warrants, the Director of
Coaching may recommend to the Board that the player be removed from the Club. The
Board of Directors will notify the parents of the decision in writing
4. The parents of any player recommended for removal from the Club may request to meet
with the Board of Directors. Our desire is to work in a positive, constructive way with all
our players
Everyone has problems from time to time and we will make every effort to work with you to help
solve the problems you may have. After we have exhausted all efforts to solve the problem, we
will be left with little choice other than pursue disciplinary action as outlined above.
Procedures for Handling Problems
The Fusion FC Board of Directors is responsible for investigating internal club complaints and
disciplinary problems. When problems are referred to the Board, a hearing may be held and
appropriate measures may be directed. Please speak to your Coach first for the handling of any
problem you may have. If, after consulting with the Coach, you still feel that additional attention
to the problem is needed, then you may refer the matter to the Board in writing for review.
Intra-Club Transfer Policy
The commitment of a player to any Fusion FC team is for the entire length of the season. Any
request to transfer within the club prior to the fulfillment of this commitment is subject to Club
approval. Intra-club transfers will only be granted upon approval of the Director of Coaches after
consulting with the Player, Parent, both Coaches, and the Fusion FC Board. Any player fulfilling
their seasonal commitment to a Fusion FC team is free to try out for any other Fusion FC team
at the appropriate time.
Drug and Alcohol Policy
It is the firm commitment of Fusion FC to take an active role in the prevention of drug and
alcohol abuse. Our policy is no drugs, no alcohol, no smoking and no destructive behavior. We
will involve ourselves with the player and parents any time that a situation has an impact on our
Club or its members. It is important that we be able to trust our players to obey Club rules.
Violation of this policy may be the basis for suspension or dismissal from the team. As our
players get older, they are expected to be positive role models for the younger kids, not only on
the soccer field, but in all areas of social behavior.
Player Insurance Coverage
All Fusion FC players are covered by insurance which is provided through our affiliation with
California Youth Soccer Association (CYSA) and North Valley Soccer Club. The CYSA
insurance provides coverage for all players registered with the United States Youth Soccer
Association. All players are covered while participating in sanctioned play or practices, also
when participating in any scheduled group function while under the direct supervision of a club
authorized representative. The benefits provided are an accidental death and medical expense
benefit. For detailed information or if you have any questions, please see the CYSA website.
11
Fundraising and Special Events
Fusion FC will require all members of the club to participate in fundraising functions and special
events as determined by the Board of Directors. Fundraising functions and special events will
be conducted to help with expenses such as facilities, equipment, monthly assessments, and
player financial aid needs. Fusion FC is always in need of support from the community through
sponsorships and fundraising events. If you or your company could help us in meeting this
challenge, please let us hear from you. Fusion FC is a section 501(c)(3) non-profit organization
and contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Teams are encouraged to explore fundraising opportunities that will help defray the cost of
tournament travel and play. At the same time, the club has an interest in assuring that
fundraising efforts do not conflict with club activities or policies, or with the activities of other
Fusion FC teams. As a result, all fundraising activities must be approved in advance by the
Team Manager who will determine whether prior approval by the Board of Directors is required.
Player Commitment
All players who are a part of Fusion FC are asked to sign a Player Commitment Letter (at the
end of this Handbook). As the Commitment letter indicates, it is important that each player
understands that there are obligations which come with being a member of a competitive soccer
team. At this level of competition, success and fun on the soccer field do not come without some
extra effort. The will to compete is not enough; your child also must have the will to prepare to
compete. As a result, we ask all of our players to formally acknowledge that, for their own good
and for the good of the team, they will be expected to attend practice, to practice properly, and
to do all of the other things which are necessary to become a skilled soccer player and a
contributing part of a competitive soccer team.
As a parent, we need your assistance in helping your child understand the nature of the
commitment being made and the importance of keeping that commitment. When you review the
Commitment Letter, we believe that it will be something of value. Before your child can be
accepted to a Fusion FC team, we must first receive a copy of the Commitment Letter signed by
the player and one of the parents.
Coaches
The Coaches for Fusion FC are instructed to conduct themselves first as teachers and second
as soccer coaches. Nothing positive will come of the Club’s effort if we produce top-class
players who do not know how to conduct themselves as successful human beings. In this
regard, you can expect Fusion FC Coaches to conduct themselves as positive role models and
display appropriate behavior. Our Coaches recognize they are dealing in an important way with
young people and cannot overlook the impact they have on players’ lives. Coaches are
responsible for the conduct of the team on and off the field when the team is together and part
of a club event. We insist our players be polite, well behaved, and respectful. Players and
parents can expect honest communication, consistency, and reliability from their Coach.
Fusion FC and our Coaches are committed to creating an environment that will be conducive to
developing state, regional, and national caliber players with the potential to play on top college,
professional and national teams. This commitment by the Club and our Coaches however is
under no circumstances meant to serve as a guarantee players will be offered an opportunity to
participate at the college level, or be considered for state, regional, national, or professional
teams. The Club and our coaches simply pledge to create an environment where players can
12
acquire the knowledge, tools, and skills that will enable them to achieve the level of play that
their ability, desire, commitment, and effort will take them. Fusion FC Coaches will be expected
to provide instruction in soccer for three (3) to six (6) hours per team per week. During the later
parts of the season instruction hours may go up due to tournament play (sometimes Saturday
and Sunday) and state and national cup preparations. The Coach is expected to attend all
games, but conflicts will occur from time to time. In situations where conflicts do occur, the team
Coach with assistance from the Director of Coaching will designate a Coach to cover that
particular practice, game, or tournament.
The Coach is responsible for player selection, positioning (line-up), and participation (playing
time). The Coach is also responsible for team direction, strategy, curriculum and schedule.
There may be times where you may not understand or agree with their decisions but you have
entrusted your coach with these matters. It is important for players and parents to understand
that soccer is a player’s game and once players reach a certain level of skill, maturity, and
experience, they become more important to the team’s success than the Coach.
Coaches’ Rules
1. Attend all practices, games and coaches meeting. If a conflict arises, ensure that a
suitable substitute has been arranged for and properly briefed
2. Conduct yourself in a professional manner at all times
3. Ensure that players wear their uniforms in a proper and complete fashion. Socks should
be pulled up and jerseys tucked in whenever in uniform, not just during the game
4. No foul language or abusive conduct
5. No smoking in the presence of players
6. No alcoholic beverages in the presence of players
7. When traveling with the team, remain aware of your players’ whereabouts and behavior
8. Set schedules and inform team manager, parents and players of all activities
9. Dress in Fusion FC coach’s attire when performing coaching services
10. Fusion FC field usage policies:
a) All practices and games must be approved by the Fusion FC staff
b) Practice spaces and times will normally be assigned by the club, and coaches
are expected to cooperate on the use of field facilities
c) All teams are responsible for cleaning up after practices or games, and for
returning all equipment to its proper place
d) All coaches are asked to help in monitoring the activities that take place at the
Fusion FC fields, and to assist in keeping our fields clean, safe and secure
11. Fusion FC reserves the right to terminate contracts for any unprofessional behavior
12. Meet the obligations called for in the coaching contract
Parent Commitment
Parent support and involvement with Fusion FC is essential for your child/club’s success. Not
only is the player’s commitment essential, but so is the parent’s. If players are to make a quality
commitment to the club and their team, parents must also see to it that players attend all
possible team and club functions. The club understands that time conflicts and other important
events occur in our player’s lives. The club’s responsibility is to present a periodic schedule to
allow proper time planning. When parents of players have an unavoidable conflict, the club
expects timely communication to see if the club or team can make any necessary adjustments.

Our Parents: Involvement and Codes of Conduct
All parents must sign the Codes of Conduct included at the end of this handbook.
Parental support of, and involvement with the Club is essential. If your son or daughter is
selected and chooses to commit to Fusion FC, your commitment is also necessary. If players
are to make a quality commitment to the Club and their team, parents must see to it that players
attend all possible Club and team functions (practices, meetings, games, etc). The Director of
Coaching and/or Head Coach will make final decisions on scheduling and adjustments after
careful consideration of your needs and those of the Club or team.
Sideline Conduct: Fusion FC has a Zero Tolerance policy in regards to parent coaching during
games. We hope you understand that this policy is in no way intended to stifle your input, but
simply to avoid the confusion that occurs when multiple instructions are being shouted from the
sidelines. We ask that you respect the roll of the coaches when it comes to providing tactical or
technical feedback to the players from the sidelines during games. Fusion FC will also not
tolerate complaining or negative comments directed at the referees during, between or after the
games. There is a real shortage of qualified, experienced referees in the State of California. We
have some very good soccer referees, but we also sometimes encounter referees who, through
lack of experience, do not make proper calls. We teach our players to respect the referee at all
times.
Additionally, arguing with the opposing players, parents or coaches is strictly prohibited. Your
support is highly encouraged to the team at all times. It is the desire of Fusion FC coaching staff
to handle all coaching matters with the players before, during or after practice and games.
During games it is important to keep in mind that only the players and the Coach should be in
the bench area. The Coach and the players require privacy to talk and at times confront
situations that may be happening during the game. We strongly believe that it is in the player’s
best interest that he/she develops the independence, confidence and poise to directly
communicate with their coach. We ask you as parents to please take the initiative to encourage
your son/daughter to speak up in an appropriate and respectful manner and communicate for
themselves whenever possible. It goes without saying that as parents you are always welcome,
at the appropriate moment and time, to communicate and ask questions about your
son/daughter.
Any parent who is ejected from a game or scrimmage due to violation of the Codes of Conduct
will be suspended from the following two games or tournaments. After review of the violation, a
decision of suspension will be communicated to the parent by the Board of Directors. Discipline
will be administered by the Board of Directors. Any parent wishing to appeal a suspension must
write a letter of appeal to the Board of Directors and come before the Board for review of their
appeal.
If a parent violates the Codes of Conduct for a second time, their player will be removed from
the club roster and Cal South will be notified that the player has been removed and will not be
allowed to join another Club within CalSouth’s jurisdiction for six (6) months.
Please allow the Coaches the needed space to function in this important role in the
development of the players as persons as well as soccer players. Fusion FC’s primary concern
is the long-term growth and development of your son/daughter as a person not just as soccer
players. Club, team, and player development may be given a greater priority than winning even
though as a competitive club we do place emphasis on competing for promotion, tournament,
state, and regional championships. We hope that all parents will demonstrate an understanding
14
of this by consistently conducting themselves in a manner consistent with a healthy team
environment.
Fusion FC believes in and teaches players the benefit of having the proper game mentality. We
will instruct your son/daughter to ignore adverse conditions such as referees calls, name calling,
foul language, rough play, cheating, poor weather, negative behavior by parents or opponents,
etc. We expect our parents to have this same mentality.
The Field of Play
Also known as “the pitch” the soccer fields at Fusion FC are approximately 110 yards long and
70 yards wide for over U10 play and 80 yards by 50 yards for U9 & 10 play. Please note that, in
order to allow the Assistant Referee to run up and down the touch-line, spectators are
requested to stay at least two (2) meters or six (6) yards back from the touchline and ten yards
on either side of the center line. Parents will seat themselves to the left of the coaching and
player area while no further than the penalty line. Please speak with your Team Manager for
guidance.
