Aims of the symposium

Opportunity for PhD students to:• test research ideas among a wider audience• present current progress and future plans• receive constructive criticism and insight from

mentors and fellow students• gain a wider understanding of the field through

exposure to a number of different topics• practise presenting work in an informal setting

Advice for future submissions

• Do a PhD in Germany :-)

• Last year, the advice was to do a PhD in Switzerland.

• So it pays to keep track of trends :-)

Some suggestions for mentors• Mentors should lead the discussion after the

talk

• You may comment on not just the work presented, but the overall PhD plan, presentation, slides etc.

• You don't have to focus just on your assigned student(s)

• Please try to use the time in breaks and lunch for futher interaction with the students
