Thanks for a great tournament!

The History of the Memorial Tournament

Over the past several years, we have provided an opportunity for teams to play

additional games after the regular season and to also enjoy the thrill of playing in a

tournament. As with other such tournaments, they typically come about to

memorialize a person or organization that contributes to the aid of those in need.

This tournament was organized in 2006 to memorialize a gentleman who was a

coach, devoted father, and good friend of many from Milford SAY Soccer. Each

year, the Memorial Tournament Committee chooses a worthy family, charity or

cause, many of whom had devoted their time and energy to teaching and supporting

the children of Milford SAY Soccer. Half of the profit raised from the tournament is

donated to that cause.

For this 9th Annual Memorial Tournament, we have selected to honor Charles “Bud”

and Shirley Steigerwald, by donating to Hospice of Cincinnati. Bud and Shirley were

the proud and supportive grandparents of Michael and Michelle Daniel who played

most of their soccer careers with Milford SAY Soccer and parents to Lou (Rick)

Daniel. Rick and Lou have devoted a large majority of their time, knowledge,

passion, and friendship to our soccer organization to help make it the success it is

today. Unfortunately, the Daniel Family lost both Bud and Shirley within a month

before the holidays. In the last days with their family, both were given excellent care

by Hospice of Cincinnati. Hospice of Cincinnati is a non-profit organization that

provides end of life care and support for families grieving the loss of a loved one. In

addition, they offer Memorial services to honor those who have participated in the

Hospice program by music, readings, and lighting of candles to remember their

loved one.

As an organization, Milford SAY Soccer is dedicated to the children of our

community and hope to continue this tournament for years to come. The

tournament is intended to allow SAY teams the chance to play in a post-season

event at the end of the SAY Spring regular season, and to encourage sportsmanship

and team play. Please remember that these games are to be enjoyable and

competitive for the players. The support of you, our sponsors, participants, and all

the volunteers will ensure the success of the Memorial Tournament in 2014.
