Reflecting on God’s Word..Prayer has always been part of the Christian heritage. The book of Psalms long ago be-came the prayer book of the church, along with some hymns and canticles from the Bible, both Old and New Testaments. Among the most beautiful prayers we have are the Magnificat of Mary, the Benedictus of Zechariah, and the Nunc Dimittis of Simeon, all in the Gospel of Luke (Luke 1:46–55; 1:68–79; 2:29–32). Most importantly, Jesus prayed. Jesus, the Son of God, the Word made flesh, the only begotten Son, prayed. We know that he went off by himself to pray. He did this before some of the most important moments in his ministry, like before he chose those who would be with him. When one of the disciples asked him to teach them to pray and Jesus responded with the Our Father, it deserves our attention. This prayer reveals the heart of Jesus, and tells us how we should speak to the Father. The prayer has two parts: blessing the Father and calling for his presence in the world, then turning to God for our basic needs of food, for-giveness, and fidelity. The parables that follow call us to perse-vere and persist in prayer because God is a Father who will give us his life-blood, in this case, the Holy Spirit, to all who ask. Continue to knock, continue to ask. God will respond.—James A. Wallace, SS.R. COPpyright © 2012, World Library Publications. All rights reserved.

Dios te responderá.—James A. Wallace, C.SS.R. Derechos de autor © 2012, World Library Publications. Todos los derechos reservados.

Stewardship Reflections~ 16th Sunday in Ordi-nary Time: July 28~“Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.” Luke 12:15 The Gospel message today is so con-trary to our modern culture where advertising continually tries to convince us that our value lies in the things we possess. Jesus showed us that our true value lies in the way we live our lives. He challenges us to not store up or hoard material pos-sessions, but rather to live a grateful and generous lifestyle. Dick Penning; Stewardship Ministry; 832-260-6010

Vacation Bible School Thanks!!! We just completed a mooooving week of Vacation Bi-ble School out on the farm and have many folks to thank for its success. Our Youth Group spent many, many hours planning, decorating, and participating in the week of fun. We also had invaluable help with the adults who did Bible Stories, snacks, and crafts. A barn full of thanks to our crew leaders, our games leaders, and our generic helpers who helped with any-thing and everything. It takes sooooooooo much work to have the wonderful week we enjoyed, and we are extremely grateful to those of you who gave it your all. Thanks, also, to the 99 “farmers” who attended. Welcome To Our Parish! If you and your family are new to the area and wish to become members of Sacred Heart Church, or have attended our church but have not yet registered, we welcome and invite you to pick up a New Parishioner Registration Form. These forms are available in the church foyer or the parish office. You may drop off the completed form to the parish office, mail, or place in the Sunday collection basket. Thank you and welcome to our church family!

¡Bienvenidos a Nuestra Parroquia! ¡Gracias y bienvenidos a nuestra familia parroquial!

Business Updates from the Desk of Michele Gunn As I write this article, we are preparing for our new Pastor. As you read this, our new Pastor has already arrived! The last few weeks have been hectic at the offices with all of the events we have had for the priests, VBS and AYC along with the usual business and ministry. Our Parish Bazaar is quickly approaching. Please note that the deadline for T-shirt design is this Wednesday, July 31. Please see the flyer for ways you can help out. If you are unsure how best to help, but feel a calling to help at the Bazaar, please send an email to [email protected] and supply your contact information. Our Parish, though continuously growing, has a small staff. We are very grateful for our volunteers that give of their time and talent. If at any time you feel called to give of a particular talent, please contact me so we can find your place! Remember that God calls people that HE knows can fulfill HIS plan. Sometimes this puts us out of our comfort zone, but we still need you! We are still looking for people who are available to assist in counting money on Mondays. If you would like to be considered for this important ministry, please send me your contact information by phone, email or drop a note in the collection. If you have already contacted me, thank you and I still have your information. We would like to have a training for everyone in-volved in this ministry. … ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful in small matters, I will give you great responsibilities. Come, share your master’s joy.’ Mt 25:21-22

Mt 25:21-22
