Welcome to the Spring 2017 Term!

e are so happy to have you back and ready to tackle your classes. I do

want to give a special warm wel-come to our new Spring admit-ted students. This year, unlike others, we have a lot of new EOF faces, so if you see someone new, stop, say hi to them and get acquainted. The Fall was a great semester, as many of you did so well. Our Honor Roll had 29 stu-dents with a 3.0 or higher GPAs; we are so PROUD OF YOU!!!

As we get into the Spring 2017, there will be a lot of

new initiatives fo-cused on careering

and getting you in tune with your major of

interest. Be on the lookout for our “Informational Interview Series” on a variety of degrees including engi-neering, business administration, and social work/psychology. Our goal is for you to be the best you can be, as you work towards your degree with our support and oppor-tunities. As usual, we will also have our regular workshop offerings and

community service activities, so make sure you are in “the know” by checking your mailboxes, signing into the kiosk, checking your CCM email regularly, and meeting your counselor. Any updates, we will always keep you informed through our Remind texting system, our email blasts, Facebook, and the EOF Blackboard.

Just a few reminders, the April 15th state dead-

line for aid consid-eration is quickly approaching, this

means that your FAFSA for AY 2017-2018 and HESAA’s ad-ditional questions must

be completed by that date or you will not be considered for the TAG grant. TAG is a big chunk of your state aid, in addition to EOF, so please keep this date in mind. Furthermore, you MUST ONLY USE 2015 income to file the FAF-SA; it is called using “prior-prior” year. Failure to do so can put your future and current aid in jeopardy, especially if you are selected for

verification. This means you need to submit more documents to the financial aid office in order for your aid to be released. Failure to do so, will cancel your new aid application and also this year’s 2016-2017 leaving you owing money. We will be helping you with this process and will have the “Spring Ahead on Your FAFSA

Day” on Thursday, March 9th to assist you, 10:00 AM—3:00 PM.

As always, stay focused, driven, and show CCM what an EOF Scholar can accomplish. You are an example of academic excel-lence and success, so keep up the good work. You have us, your EOF Cheerleaders to help you

along the way.

Best of luck!!!

hat role has the EOF program played in your academic, per-

sonal, and professional devel-opment? Academically and pro-fessionally, the EOF program has stimulated my ability to stay orga-nized and work hard by providing a quiet and clean place to study. Personally, the relationships I’ve made with the staff, as well as the members of the group I entered into the program with, have been valuable in giving me a place to talk, and know some people as I came into this new place.

What motivated you to continue striving for academic success and professional growth? My motivation for academic success and professional growth is stimu-lated by my immense belief in knowledge actually being correlat-ed to power. The more you know, the more people you can inspire, lead, and interact with.

Now that you are approaching graduation, what do you claim as your most important asset as you enter the workforce and the world? My most important asset is my ability to accurately and quickly diagnose situations in my head, and produce solutions, even through adversity.

What are memorable moments you have had with EOF? My most memorable moment with EOF was when I came in to hand in some paperwork over the sum-mer of 2016, and it led directly into me receiving a part-time in-ternship in a lab, which was an insane opportunity, that I just so happened to stumble upon due to EOF.

What are your plans after grad-uation? I plan to continue my education in chemistry at Farleigh Dickenson University, while I stay at home and continue to train hard

to become a line officer in my lo-cal volunteer fire department.

EOF Student Alliance UPDATE!

he EOF Student Alliance Kick-Off was on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2016, following

the EOF Welcome Back Recep-tion. We had 7 students in at-tendance, and

several students vol-unteered to fill open

officer positions. During our meet-ing we discussed the upcoming Tricky Tray fundraiser and other events. Students submitted their free available time, and the best time to meet is Thursdays at 11:00-12:00. Future meeting dates will be: 2/9, ( in SCC lobby) 2/23, 3/9, 3/23, 4/6, and 4/20. The Celebration Luncheon is sched-uled for May 16, 12 noon-1:30.

Students staffed the EOF table at the Campus Life Club and Organization Fair on Jan. 31, making and suppling popcorn, EOF in-formation, and getting sign-ups for the Alliance. Thank you to all who participated! We received several inquiries about EOF and the Alli-ance.

Upcoming is the Teddy Bear Collection at the Teddy Bear Fac-tory in the SCC lobby on Thursday, Feb. 9, where students

will collect donations of newly stuffed animals that will be given to children in local hospitals. Please sign up now!

In addition, there will be a field trip to tour Seton Hall University, which will be on March 31. Watch for sign ups.

Students can sign up now for staffing the teddy bear table, or donating a new item or empty basket for the Tricky tray. (See Edie for more details.)

The next Alliance meeting will be Thursday, Feb. 9, in SCC Lobby at 11:00 AM. Refreshments and workshop credit for those who at-tend! Any CCM student is free to participate in the EOF Student Alliance; contact Edie Nelson at 973-328-5268, to join.
