Pants on the ground….the real story
Luke 4:18
There is a frustration and angst in our communities
about our youth, their disrespect, refusal to wear a
belt and lack of motivation. What we fail to realize is
that our youth are a product of their environment and
some of their environments are not healthy places.
That environment can be in suburban America or
urban America. The results of these unhealthy
environments are unhealthy youth. The fruit of this is
dysfunction, where we establish what is abnormal as
normal. This is done merely to cope with the pain of
life. There is quote that says, “Hurt people, hurt
people.” This quote is a mere reminder that what we
are seeing in the lives of some of our youth are
wounds that have come from being in unhealthy places.
The coach who yells, berates and abuses his/her
players is merely a hurting person, hurting players.
Sadly, it is disguised as tough coaching, accountability
and having a standard of excellence. We have turned
the bad into good, this is dysfunction. I am not saying
that there should not be a standard and accountability,
what I am saying is that, it is not what is said, but how
it is said. Colossians 3:17, 23 tells us that there should
be a standard of excellence in all that we do and
Galatians 6:1 teaches us about accountability. My
encouragement to the body of Christ is to revisit Luke
4:18 where Jesus tells us about His mission on earth.
We are His ambassadors and should do as He did.
Here is what Luke 4:18 says:
“God’s Spirit is on me; he’s chosen me to preach the
Message of good news to the poor, Sent me to
announce pardon to prisoners and recovery of sight to
the blind, To set the burdened and battered free,” The
Message
Until the body of Christ recognizes the pain in people,
pain that many have been carrying since childhood, at
the hands of someone who was supposed to love
them, ‘hurt people will continue to hurt people.’ Let
us look at people as Jesus did with compassion –
Matthew 9:36, help people heal and change the quote
from “healed people, heal people.” When this
happens, the frustration and angst about our youth will
subside! ~Rick Isaiah

Pulling Together 10 Rules for High Performance Teamwork
John J. Murphy
TIME OUT FOR DEVOTION
Consistent application of the 10 rules of high performance teamwork ultimately generates trust, respect, unity and power within any team. Conversely, consistent violation of any one rule destroys this bond. While the author of the following is unknown, "Lessons From the Geese" is a powerful illustration from nature of the rules of high performance teamwork. As you read about the natural unity that exists among this species remember - this same unity can exist in your organization!

One example of the impact seen in 2011 is expressed in this letter received from a
former basketball player at Grand Valley State University where he writes:
“I was just checking in on you…I just got a graduate assistant position at St.
Francis University where I will serve as Life Skills Coordinator. I’ve got some
heavy stuff for you! From our past conversations, I got your story of how you
found Jesus. Recently I’ve found HIM! I always knew Jesus and God were real,
but now I know it’s something different when you are really found by Christ, like
100% different. I always tried to read the Bible but I used to take it places but
never really opened it. I was struggling with the truth and which way to go. I
tried living like everyone else last year and just enjoying the typical stuff, but I
have finally realized you can’t love the world and Jesus! It’s one or the other.
You either have to be 100% Jesus or nothing at all. I have started to read my
Bible every day and can’t get enough of it. I need it! I’ve finally surrendered my
life and my all to Jesus!

Michigan Multi-Area Director
Rock Campbell has been serving FCA since 1989; he has recently taken the role of Multi-Area Director.
Sue Watterworth from Lake Orion, MI has a powerful testimony that she has recently shared with us:
The FCA opportunity began with Coach Beckie Francis at Oakland University in Rochester, MI. Our daughter, Bethany, joined the university's ladies' basketball team and was given an FCA Bible from Coach Beckie. As a believer, she began following along in the Bible at the OU FCA meetings and found it extremely helpful in her own devotional life. Now as a junior, she is currently leading the weekly FCA Bible study using this Bible (and all its meeting helps and suggestions) with 20+college athletes at the university and they are all given (or purchase) their own Bibles and bring them along! Sue has now started to seek opportunities to give the FCA bible to athletes, coaches, and parents. She will pray over the bible; give it to someone with a personal note written in it. She will often write “see page 1505” which in the Unleash The Power bible is the plan of salvation. It has almost become a full-time mission to place these bibles in the hands of those who God shows to her.
