WORSHIP MATTERS

For an Audience of One

XP will meet at 7pm, Wednesday at the church. All Junior and Senior High students are invite to attend.

God and God alone is fit to take the universe's throne.

Let everything that lives, reserve it's truest praise for God and God alone.

Steve Green

We welcome Pastor Paul Fowler to our church service today. Throughout the weekend, Pastor Fowler led the Worship Workshop at West End. We look forward to hearing the message God gave him for our church family.

It is imperative that the Christian, at the beginning of his pursuit to un-derstand what true worship is, gets it clear that the object of our wor-ship is to be God and God alone.

Ladies-Take-a-Break—Tuesday, April 30, 9:30 am

The Ladies Take-a-Break group began a new study last week, “Journey into the Heart of God” by Charles Price. The quote below came from last week’s study.

“The greatest benefit of prayer is that we get to know God better.”

All ladies are welcome to attend.

Consider Jesus. Know Jesus. Learn what kind of Person it is you say you

trust and love and worship. Soak in the shadow of Jesus. Watch him. Listen

to him. Stand in awe of Him. Let Him overwhelm you with the way He is. John Piper

Life Groups I need to update our Life Group Display. To do that, I need:

• the name of your life group,* • the group of people this life group includes (ie youth, single parents,

senior men, support group for people dealing with a particular burden, women, mixed),

• the time and day of the week on which you meet,

• the location of your meetings,

• special focus of your group or current study program, • and contact name and number. In addition to the above information, if your group regularly undertakes special projects or activities, please let me know.

If you are not presently part of a life group and you are uncertain if there is a life group that meets your need, please contact the church of-fice. If there is an appropriate group, we will help direct you. If there is not an appropriate group, we need to be aware.

I need your help. I cannot update the display without your input. Please ask a member of your group to send information to me at [email protected] or phone me weekday mornings at 368-1381. Thank you.

Lois Hammond

Nothing makes God more supreme and more central in worship than when a people are utterly persuaded that nothing—not money or prestige or lei-sure or family or job or health or sports or toys or friends—nothing is go-ing to bring satisfaction to their sinful, guilty, aching hearts besides God.

John Piper

Are you considering going to Oasis, our annual conference of the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches? If so, please let us know. Each year, we are permitted to send voting delegates to rep-resent us at convention. Information was provided about convention in the April 7 and April 14 bulletins available online at www.westendbaptistchurch.ca. Further information about Oasis 2013 is available online at www.baptist-atlantic.ca/oasis.

Sherry Kenway asked knitters in West End Baptist Church and also Maplewood Apartments to knit men’s socks. These will be sent to Russia for distribution to those in need. If you have knitted socks ready, please call Rosemary Moore as quickly as possible. Rosemary will arrange to pick up your socks so Sherry can prepare the shipment.

This needs to be done soon!

Launch Kids dive into the Word Submitted by Quenton Currie

The past few months the Launch kids (Grades 4, 5 & 6) were challenged to follow a daily devotion book. They were asked to first complete 1 week, then 2 consecutive weeks and so on. The kids are now up to their 5 week challenge! Last week when I asked them how they were doing, they could not contain themselves. Out came a flurry of positive comments: it’s great!; no problem, I just do it every night before bed; I love a quiet time in bed with my books; I just write down whatever I feel like, it’s not like a test or anything. They quickly banded around anyone who was having difficulty keeping up with lots of encouraging advice and open, sincere support. As someone who has always struggled with anything remotely resembling a consistent devotion time, I was blessed by their simple approach and enthusiasm for their special time with the Word. I hope I can be like them when I grow up. Glory to God!

Thank you, Quenton, for submitting this article. If anyone would like to

submit an article about an ongoing ministry of this church, or a worship poem, or an announcement, please feel free to send your submission to [email protected]. We will include it if possible.

You may wish to check out The Gideons’ website, www.gideons.ca. The Gideons distribute Bibles and New Testaments in over 100 coun-tries. Here in Canada, The Gideons partner with Wasaya Airways to bring Bibles to Northern Ontario. Their website offers lots of information about their work.

Jimmy Lee Howard, born in Texas, married Madonna, a NL woman. For 14 years, Jimmy Lee & Madonna ran a program in California feed-ing street people and the poor. In 2000, they returned to Newfoundland. Jimmy Lee recently released his second album, “Stand by me.” You will have opportunity to donate to the work of The Gideons during the concert.

Forms and rituals do not produce worship, nor does the disuse of forms and rituals. We can use all the right techniques and methods, we can have the best possible liturgy, but we have not worshipped the Lord until Spirit

touches spirit. Richard J. Foster

MarkEast and the Montreal Urban Partnership

Sabrina Perry, Nathan Drover, Nathan Brazil, and Mi-

chael Knoll will attend MarkEast from May 1 to 7. This annual Intervarsity Christian Fellowship event is a scripture study camp. University students study the Gospel of Mark using an interactive, inductive method called manuscript study. In addition to MarkEast, Michael Knoll will also participate in Montreal Urban Partnership. While in Montreal, Michael and other students will seek the shalom of the city together and learn about Jesus’ view of justice; that is to say, they will study and apply scrip-tures to life and learn how to share their faith with compassion and understanding. This Urban Partnership is one of a number offered by ICF across Canada during the month of May. If you wish to make a contribution to support Michael Knoll’s involvement in the Montreal Urban Partnership, please place your donation in the offering plate, clearly marked as “Benevolent Fund in support of Michael Knoll, Urban Partnership.”
