Good Shepherd Catholic Community

“The past ten weeks have been very difficult for many people throughout the twenty-eight counties of the Dio-cese of Fort Worth, the State of Texas, the United States of America, and throughout the world. For us as Christians and members of Christ’s Catholic Church, these have also been times for the opportunity to come to a renewal of our faith through prayer and works of mercy. Thus, we are not returning to the way things were before this pandemic, instead we are moving for-ward ever closer to Christ and towards establishing the Kingdom of God in our community. I thank each and all of you for the sacrifices that you have made in contrib-uting to the fulfillment of this holy endeavor.” -Bishop Olson’s Pastoral Letter dated 5/21/2020 The Bishop has requested that we no longer dis-tribute Holy Communion via carline. Those who have remained in their cars or gathered outside (while maintaining social distancing) will be invited to come into the Church during the Distribution of Holy Com-munion at Mass. Those coming in from the outside will still be required to wear a mask or face covering and have their hands sanitized before receiving Holy Com-munion. We, at Good Shepherd, have not been at “social dis-tancing capacity” since resuming public Masses. Therefore, we will continue to maintain the initial re-quest of SIX FEET social distancing and not reduce to the THREE FEET recommended by the diocese. Father Richard Memorial Fund

Father Richard poured his whole self into living out Good Shepherd’s mission of discipleship and evangelization. As pastor of Good Shepherd, he taught our community firsthand that “By God, We Can Do It.” He led us out of debt, bringing Good Shepherd into a strong

position to continue spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In memory of Father Richard’s faithful leadership and stewardship of Good Shepherd, one way to honor his legacy is by contributing to the Father Richard Memorial Fund which is directed toward the land acquisition debt. (Over $625,018 has currently been donated towards our goal of $1.5 million.) Checks can be made out to Good Shepherd Catholic Community with “Father Richard Memorial Fund” on the memo line. Please keep Father Richard & his family in your prayers. May he rest in peace.

Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time

Weekly Reflection

The Ascension of the Lord | May 24 “PUSHED” OUT ON MISSION There is a delightful character in the original Dr. Dolittle Tales called the “Pushmi-Pullyu.” It is a beast with two identical halves, with a head at each end. No matter which direction the beast walks, one end is the “push me” and the other is the “pull you.” Today’s feast is a bit like that in the life of the church. In the book of the Acts of the Apostles, it is the ascension of Christ that calls for the Holy Spirit, which consequently sends or “pushes” the church out on its mission. This is the message that we hear from the angels today as they tell the friends of Jesus not to look up into the clouds, but to get busy. It is the message of Jesus himself in Matthew’s Gospel, as he sends them out to baptize. He also tells them, “I am with you always, until the end of the age” (Matthew 28:20). And it is this message, confident in faith that Jesus has ascended to shouts of joy, that “pulls” us along to our final destiny. The life of the faithful disciple, sent into the world on mission, will one day know the same risen, ascended glory. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Sixth Sunday of Easter

Guardian Ministry BECOME A GUARDIAN - GUARDIAN MINISTRY Our vision is to be a Catholic community that is alert and prepared to respond to any potential emergency while maintaining an invitational and welcoming atmosphere. Armed Guardians are made up of trained armed volunteers who are responsible for controlling access points and contacting or containing potential threats or persons of concern. Their first priority will always be to de-escalate any situation to restore order. They will also have authority to utilize an appropriate level of force in order to repel violence and control a chaotic situation when immediately necessary in order to prevent the unlawful use of force or criminal activity of another. The Team will utilize a discreet and concealed security posture and should be comprised of servant leaders who are prepared to respond to resistance only when it is immediately necessary because there are no other options available. Initial Minimum Requirements: Texas License to Carry – Proof of a current Texas License to Carry must be provided in order to serve as an Armed Guardian. Social History – Complete a comprehensive self-report history statement that is reviewed and analyzed by a licensed Counselor. Safe Environment – Complete the training required by the Diocese of Fort Worth and remain current. Legal Service Membership – Armed Guardians must obtain legal service membership from an approved provider. Physical Standards: Kneeling – Have the capacity to move from standing to kneeling and back to standing again. Move Laterally – Have the capacity to move from side-to-side rapidly. Sprint – Have the capacity to sprint and close distance in a short time.

Flower Donations

Thank you to all those who contrib-uted to our celebrations. Your gen-erosity has provided at the altar and at the statues of our Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph. **NEW** Each Monday Members of our Little Flower Ministry team deliv-er small arrangements made from these flowers to over 40 residents at various nursing homes who do not receive other visitors. Would you like to commemorate

special days in the year? Donations for flowers on our altars or at the Blessed Mother will be to honor or memo-rialize the special people and events in our lives. Flowers can fittingly mark the anniversary of a birth, baptism, con-firmation, marriage or death, as well as expressions of thanksgiving during Easter, Mother's or Father's Day, and Christmas. Arrangements will be of seasonal flowers on-ly, no exotics, and are ordered by the Art & Environment committee only. Donations of any amount are accepted. For more details and to donate, please check out gscc.net/flowerdonations

Join us to re-member and celebrate on June 6 & 7! This weekend, we remember the students, their families and staff of the Fray Casimiro

Technical and Professional Institute in Campamento, HONDURAS. We will see Wilson Romero, director of the Institute via video, he will provide an update on the schools we support as we continue to celebrate our cove-nant partnership through our Honduras Mission Program. Stop by our tables and the Parish Hall after Mass to speak with our council members and learn more about our current goals for the mission program in Honduras and our NEW scholarship program!

Thanks to your continuous donations, prayers, and sup-port, this school year kicked off the 2020 school year on February 10. This year they started a new Advance Edu-cation Program with more rigorous education goals and added workshop skill training. As most of the world schools in Honduras had to suspend on campus classes but teachers and students are making efforts to continue their education with online classes and via cell phones where available. They hope to resume regular classes by the end of May. We have reached 80% of our scholarships goal this year, by sponsoring 85 deserving students in both the Bilingual School and the Technical Institute. THANK YOU! With your generous donation to the Honduras Program through the Angel Tree Collection and weekly donations, we were able to help purchase this year’s textbook and to continue helping with subsidies to increase teachers’ sal-aries. We have also helped them update and add equip-ment for the new workshops on the Trade School, such as seamstress, beauticians and barbershop, electronics for cell phone and computer repair and motorcycle repair to name a few, to accommodate the increasing demand for these courses. Please visit our website to learn more about our efforts to help the Fray Casimiro Institute at Honduras Mission: gscc.net/honduras Your donations make a huge and positive difference in helping the poor in Honduras, so please continue to give generously to our Honduras Mission Program and pray for all the students and staff as they face the challenges of the virus in their community.

On behalf of our brothers and sisters from Honduras, “Muchas gracias!”

Donation Drop-off Station

Our outreach partners continue to need our help. Because Good Shepherd has cancelled its Vacation Bible School this year due to COVID-19 concerns, the donations for GRACE Feed our Kids that would have normally come from VBS will not be gathered. As a result, we are in dire need of collecting enough donations to feed hundreds of chil-dren. Further, St. John's Baby World is also in need of diapers. These children depend on our contributions to feed and clothe them. Please consider helping the less fortunate through your donations. Our other outreach partners will also benefit from donations of non-perishable food items, clothes, etc. We will be holding our third donation drop-off station on Saturday, May 30 from 9:00am to 12:00pm. For a complete list of items needed, please visit gscc.net/donationstation
