Clothing Recommendations Dress for the outdoors – comfortable, casual! Dress in layers. Have a wind/waterproof layer, and hat. Wear comfortable, closed shoes/boots. Double sock layers (not anklets) and light colored

Dinners Hotel guests will be served breakfast and dinner for each night

reserved, Thursday, Friday, and/or Saturday (Banquet).

Commuters can: Eat dinner on their own Eat dinner at the Ramada Plaza Long Island Hotel’s public

restaurant (Yogi’s) or Purchase the conference dinners. Please order by Oct. 8

Lunches Lunches on your own at BNL Cafeteria

Some field trips will provide time to eat lunch off grounds.

One workshop presenter will “bring in” a pre-paid lunch. LI Maritime Museum Field Trip Friday Oct 19 1:45-3:45. If ordering lunch, must send check and sandwich choice by October 16. Indicate sandwich choice (turkey, tuna salad, ham and swiss) and make check payable to Long Island Maritime Museum. Mail it to our host, Steve Jones, Long Island Maritime Museum, 88 West Avenue, West Sayville, NY 11796. You may bring your own lunch.

Transportation Contact the Ramada (formerly Crowne) Plaza Hotel if you

need transportation between the hotel and the Long Island Railroad Ronkonkoma Station or MacArthur Airport in Islip. 631-758-2900 Eileen.

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, drive your car or ride the FREE Hotel Shuttle or Conference Bus (Yellow bus, Pierce Coach Line) between the hotel and BNL.

Some workshops will “travel” on site at BNL. Carpooling is recommended.

Pre-Conference Sessions Click here for all Pre-Conference Schedules, Addresses, etc. Please use the website of your destination to secure directions. Contact us by

October 16th if you have any questions. For your convenience, we are posting directions on our website from each pre-

conference site to the Ramada (formerly Crowne Plaza) Long island Hotel. The nearby scenic and historic towns of Oyster Bay (B, C), Cold Spring Harbor

(D,E), Roslyn (F), Huntington (H), Stony Brook (K), and Riverhead (L) can offer a wide variety of lunch options for travelers and commuters.

Several workshops are along scenic and historic Route 25A (Along the way it is called Northern Boulevard, Main Street, among others….)

A-J are at or west of the conference sites, while K and L are north and east, respectively.

When You Arrive at BNL Brookhaven National Laboratory Our first day at BNL is Friday.

You will be greeted by BNL Security who will be guiding you through the easy check-in process and directing you to the NYSOEA registration table at Berkner Hall.

IMPORTANT: Please arrive early! Factor in about 15 minutes for your first check-in

Opportunities to “sign up” After receiving your Conference Packet at Registration,

review the workshop schedule and sign up on site for workshops that have limited enrollment (25 or less).

Sign up for Regional Early Bird Activities 8-8:45 AM Friday and Saturday

“Sign up for Sunday” at the Registration Table if you will bring the family to Sunday morning activities.

Moving around the BNL Campus At Brookhaven Lab, we will walk from building to

building (2-12 mins) to attend workshops. Dress accordingly.

15 minutes travel time is scheduled between workshops.

BASH THE TRASH WORKSHOP FRIDAY AT 9 AM Please bring trash in your reusable bags, even if you won’t be at the workshop – thanks! Tin cans - many sizes - careful of sharp edges! No soda cans. Plastic bottles or cans with removable tops (like coffee cans, soda

bottles, smaller containers etc). Please include the tops. “Shaky stuff” for building shakers - beads, pebbles, paper clips,

aquarium rocks etc. No food. Rubber bands - all different sizes Cardboard tubes - paper towel, gift-wrapping, plastic wrap, etc. Cardboard or Styrofoam Boxes - all sizes - nothing too flimsy -

shoebox size is OK; no cereal boxes, please Various plastic buckets, oatmeal barrels, drum-like or bell-like

items, etc. Please, nothing that can be dangerous if broken (by enthusiastic drumming, etc).
