School Attendance
School begins at 8:50. Children are allowed inside the classroom at 8:30 to begin morning routine.
Children are expected to be at school, on time, and for the entire day daily. If for some reason your child must be absent or tardy, please call the office at 299-4415 ext. 5543.
Arrival
Children are to walk to their classroom independently upon arrival.
Pick Up Procedures
You must communicate if your child’s after school routine is changing for any reason by
3:00pm.
Pick up times are from 3:30-3:45. After 3:45, all children will go to building C for parent pick up.
Bldg A Morning Drop Off Procedures
Parents may park in designated parking spaces (not along the curb) and walk children to the office.
Or, parents may stay in the traffic lane. Please stay in your car. An adult will assist your child out of the car.
Children are expected to be at school, on time, and for the entire day daily. If for some reason your child must be absent or tardy, please call the office-F, at 299-4415 ext. 5543 or office-A, at 299-4415 ext. 5512.
Parking Lots and Driveways
Please adhere to our procedures and rules: Be aware of the children. Be patient. Be respectful of staff and other
parents. Drive slowly.
Bldg A Parking Lots and Driveways
Please stay in the designated pick up lane. Stay in your car and be patient. An adult will assist your child into the car.
Do not park in a handicapped parking space without a permit.
Please stay in the inner two lanes to pick up your child.
We will not escort your child to a vehicle in the thru lane for safety reasons.
If your child has a sibling in F, D, or E, please pull up in the second lane.
Snacks
Each student will bring his/her own healthy snack.Birthdays
A student may celebrate his/her own birthday with cupcakes or cookies to share. Best time, 2:30-3:00.
Trojan of the Week * Each student will be a Trojan of the Week for one week during the year. I have a Trojan of the Week List that I will send home!
Lobby Guard
All visitors must have a lobby guard pass from the office to come to our classroom
Lobby Guard key fobs can be purchased in building C for $5.
Homework
Reading and Language Arts
Read at least 20 minutes every day (building stamina, splitting it up)
Monday-Thursday, AGENDA, the students will write a sentence with the daily sight word.
Words Sort each week. You work with the words at home with your child. Memory, flashcards, cut & glue.
Math Practice math facts
daily (addition and subtraction to 12)
Homework will be given on Monday and return on Friday.
Possibly, 2-3 EDM Math Home- links and a fun bingo sheet.
Homework is a reflection of the learning we are doing at school. Homework will be consistent and predictable so that you can plan your lives outside of school! It is a time for you to bond with each other as
you talk and learn from each other.

Curriculum
Becoming a confident reader is the primary focus of first grade. Approximately two and a half hours of our day is devoted to various literacy activities.
Each classroom has daily push-in with reading specialists and ELL teachers who help with reading instruction.
Guided Reading
Guided Reading – lasts over an hour and 30 minutes. Phonics and Secret Stories (sounds) for word decoding are done at this time also.
We will provide support as students learn to use various reading strategies such as letter/sound recognition, picture clues, context clues, reading fluency, and reading comprehension skills. Small and large group support is given to help students become independent readers.
Whole Group Instruction: predicting, echo read, choral read, summarize and set a specific target
Small Group Instruction: 4-6 students per group
Instruction is tailored to students’ needs and last 15-20 minutes.\
Whole Group Reading is another 20-25 minutes. We read articles, social studies, poetry, and basal stories.
Daily 5
This is paired with Guided Reading, 1 hour and 10 minutes.
