Looking Back and Looking Forward As we approach the end of the year, it is a good time to re-
flect on all that has been achieved. When walking round the
school, it is so rewarding to see the children growing in self-
confidence and developing the skills to enable them to be
successful. Through talking with the children and looking at
their outcomes, we congratulate our children on what they
have achieved.
In this newsletter, we also look forward to the new year and
all that it holds. Staff members have been busy planning for
the coming term. You will find snapshots of what we have to
look forward to in January as you read on.
Staff members and governors wish you all a very happy
Christmas holiday and new year.
See you back on Thursday 4th January.
Free School Meal Entitlement and Extra Funding for Schools
The government gives additional funding to schools for pupils who are eligible
for free school meals even if they don’t have a school meal. In January, we are
updating our records and, if you qualify, then it will mean that the school will
get more funds to support your child.
Please can you check your eligibility on the link: www.fsm.lgfl.net
or speak to Miss Karwal. Thank you for taking the time for this.

Making Christmas Memorable
The entrance to the Kingsley site is a very small cul-de-sac. We are en-
couraging car drivers to park further away and walk to school. Thank
you to the car drivers who have started to ‘Park and Stride’. It is making
a difference; the entrance to school is a much safer space.
On Friday morning, the reception children took parents, friends, governors and
staff members on a memorable journey to Bethlehem. The children were shining
examples of the qualities, values and skills we want our children to develop. They
worked together as a team. They demonstrated remarkable self-confidence as
they sang, acted and spoke. The faces of the children and the audience radiat-
ed joy. Memories of their show will live long in our minds. Well done to all the
children, parents and staff members who invested their time and energies in or-
der to enable each child to achieve their potential.
Make the World Better with a Sweater
The children looked great in their Christmas jumpers. We have yet to
finish counting all the contributions but we are hoping that we will be
able to send around £400 to the Save the Children Fund. Thank you for
your contributions and demonstrating our value of helpfulness.
We have spaces in our Nursery. If
you are looking for a place for a
child or know someone who is inter-
ested, we have a few spaces avail-
able in our afternoon nursery ses-
sion. If you are interested, please
come and speak to Ms Louise
Bloomfield, our assistant head
teacher.
Looking Forward

We apologise that the snow fall
meant that we were unable to hold
our coffee morning. However, we will
set a new date in the new year when
you can meet our governors, share
your views and find out about the
Spring Fair we are planning to hold.
Let us know if you can help.
Planning Application Accepted
We received good news on Friday. Planning permission for our new hall has been
approved. The work will begin in the new year. The plan of action is as follows:
Enabling work begins in January with haul road installed and sub-station con-
nected;
Demolish sports hall in February;
Drainage works undertaken in the Easter holidays;
Phase 1 works begin with new extension and external works started in March;
Install modules in May;
Install kitchen in July;
Internal changes to existing school started: create a music room, food tech-
nology room and refurbish the toilets;
Demolish dining block in August;
External works in August with planned completion on 24.8.18;
Remove haul road and landscape the area with contract completed on
1.10.18
Christmas Treats The catering manager and her catering team pulled out all the stops to
give the children a Christmas dinner to remember. The staff decorated the
dining hall, played Christmas music, gave out crackers and Christmas hats.
Children enjoyed a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings.
Snow Days
We were very pleased that we were able to keep
the school open during the recent snowy days.
Back in September, the site manager ordered salt
and containers in preparation. We are very proud
of our team and thank them for their hard work in
clearing the snow and salting the paths.
Sporting Headlines
In our recent children’s questionnaires, sport came out as one of the children’s favourite
activity at school. In free moments, from first thing in the morning, during break times and
after school, you will see children enjoying playing together and developing their skills.
Some of the year 6 children have written a presentation on how to demonstrate sporting
values whilst playing.
We thank Mr Walsh for leading PE across the school. He has been planning ahead for the
new year. We will be welcoming Non-Stop Action in during the spring term. The team will
be developing dance skills and demonstrating outstanding lessons to develop our expertise
in teaching dance.
Mr Walsh will continue to provide after school PE clubs in the new Year. We are working to-
wards entering a number of tournaments. We
are hoping to build on the successes of last year.
Possible Tournaments include:
Round Robin Football- Year 6-January 17th
Hockey—January 30th
Basketball—February 8th
Netball—February 20th
Football—February 22nd and March 1st
In year 5, the children have enjoyed (if that is the
right word) boot camp led by Miss Irwin. 5B have also improved their swimming skills this
term.
In January, 5M, Mr Thompson’s class will be going swimming.
An Engaging Curriculum
In our school, we want the curriculum to:
Engage the children so that they have a question to investigate and something to make;
Help the children develop important skills, values and self-confidence;
Have a purpose or an outcome;
Be something the children can learn in school, at home and outside the school environment.
In the coming half term, the staff members have planned the following questions to answer.
Bringing Learning To Life Whole school celebratory events for the coming half term include:
Martin Luther King Day: Monday 15th January
National Storytelling Week: week beginning Monday 29th January
Safer Internet Day: Tuesday 6th February
Farewell and Welcome
We say a fond farewell and heart-felt thank you to the following staff:
Mrs Akhtar who is going to Bangladesh in the new year; Mr Ortiz who is planning to teach guitar in
Ealing from January; Mrs Kuriakose starts her maternity leave at the end of December; Ms Evelyn
moving to a new school.
We welcome Ms Arora, an experienced year 6 teacher, who is joining us to teach 6MC. Ms Pindoria
a skilled early years teacher will be job-sharing with Mrs Fensome in Reception. Mr Townsend a gifted
guitar teacher will be replacing Mr Ortiz. We wish all these staff well in their new roles.

Harrow Council has updated its policy on School Attendance and Education Penalty Notices. If your child is ab-sent from school without satisfactory reason, you may be issued with a Penalty Notice. Harrow Council will be issuing one EPN per parent per child where a child is absent from school without authorisation from the Head teacher and where the child has:
At least 20 sessions (10 school days) of unauthorised absences within a period of no more than 12 weeks (term time).
A leave of absence of at least 10 consecutive sessions (5 school days) not approved by head teacher as exceptional.
In cases where a child persistently arrives at school after the register has closed and has received at least eight (8) unauthorised late marks within a period of ten (10) weeks (term time).
Where the child has attendance below 90% and at least 5% absences are unauthorised. Please note that it is the Head teacher who must determine whether an absence can be authorised in line with
the statutory regulations and guidance. Head teachers are not permitted to authorise leave of absence for holi-
days during term time.
