Sport

Saturday SportSaturday Sport is open to girls from Year 4 to Year 12. We cater to all levels so no prior experience is necessary. Wenona participates in interschool competitions organised by the Independent Primary School Heads of Australia (IPSHA) and the Association of Heads of Independent Girls Schools (AHIGS), as well as local community-based competitions. Senior girls compete in team and individual sports as part of the Inde-pendent Girls Schools Sports Associ-ation (IGSSA).

IGSSA sport is played on Saturdays during term time at members’ schools and public venues throughout Sydney.

Our students may compete at local, state, national and international levels.

All Wenona staff and coaching staff have a current Working with Children Check and all Wenona staff have appropriate First Aid training.

Trials are conducted for all team sports at Wenona to determine the appropriate team for each girl’s level

of ability. Information regarding trials and sport registration is emailed to parents and students, and is also posted in the Sports section of the Wenona intranet (portal).

There is no charge for Junior School sports, and parents of Senior School students who participate in sport are charged a fee for that sport.

TrainingTraining is held before or after school, with generally one (Junior School) or two skills (some Senior School) sessions held per week. Training is held on and off site at a variety of venues. Further detail is provided in the Terms and Conditions for each sport.

Various fitness sessions are held throughout the week, and girls are encouraged to attend.

Physical activity is an important part of girls’ development. At Wenona, sport is fun, challenging and provides an opportunity for teamwork, and for girls to excel both individually and in groups.

All girls from Kindergarten to Year 10 have regular Personal Development, Health and Physical Education (PDHPE) classes following the NSW Syllabus.

We encourage girls to take part in sport beyond the classroom, to foster confidence and to embrace healthy activity as part of a well-rounded life. While extra-curricular sport is not compulsory at Wenona, over 85% of girls in the Senior School and over 90% of girls in the Junior School participate in sport.
