Hannes, there’s one piece in theUX you designed THAT JUST REALLY SUCKS—~ a highly esteemed developer colleague

Of course, we dealt with the situation like true professionals

Let’s talk about tension—

Page 16: We're not here to be friends

In The Pocket

The way you accomplish anything significant is with a team.—

• Clients

• Designers

• Developers

• Project Managers

• …

Page 17: We're not here to be friends

In The Pocket

If you’re not pissing someone off, you probably aren’t doing anything significant—

A PROCESS & CULTURE—To better deal with moments of tension

Page 22: We're not here to be friends

Should be about

• the product(s) we’re making

Should not be about

• Personal issues

• Lack of information

• Lack of understanding

Moments of tension during a project

1. Work with clients and for users—

USERS

IN THE POCKETCLIENT

We partner with clients and join forces to create the best possible solution for the end users.

2. Be transparent to the team and the client—

Transparently sharing information throughout the team keeps everyone on the same page and focused on the right things.

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs. When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next door neighbour. Before she says a word, Bob says, “I’ll give you $800 to drop that towel.” After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and

stands naked in front of Bob. After a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 dollars and leaves.

The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks,…

“Who was that?” “It was Bob the next door neighbour,” she replies. “Great!” the husband says, “Did he say anything about

the $800 he owes me?”

If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a

position to prevent avoidable exposure.

3. Align the entire team from the beginning—

When you ask the entire team what you’re building and why, you should get one answer.

4. Schedule regularreview moments —

Getting the right people together at regular times realigns goals, to do’s and attention points:

• Code reviews

• Design reviews

• Test groups

5. Educateyour colleagues—

Knowing the ins and outs of your colleagues’ jobs creates empathy, trust and understanding:

• 1-to-1 feedback

• Lunch sessions

• Competence sessions

6.Speak up and get out of your bubble —

Nothing is someone else’s problem. And even if it’s not your job to solve it, it’s at least your job to signal it.

7. Know your colleagues not just from work—

Get a beer, do some sports or go to Ibiza together.

Knowing your colleagues on a personal level will make sure you’ll be there for each other if need be.
