Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong recently visited Clementi and Ulu Pandan on 5 Apr 2014, during which he mingled with residents, and held a dialogue session with community leaders.

Mr Lee was given a warm welcome by Members of Parliament (MPs) for West Coast GRC - Mr Arthur Fong who was the host MP, Mr S Iswaran, Minister in Prime Minister’s Office, Second Minister for Home Affairs and Trade & Industry, Mr Cedric Foo and Ms Foo Mee Har. They made their first stop at the Market and Food Centre at Block 448 Clementi Avenue 3 where they interacted with residents and stallholders, and even sat down for a breakfast at the food centre.

Mr Lee then proceeded to the Clementi Arts and Cultural Festival at the Clementi Town Centre. His visit ended with a closed-door dialogue session with community leaders at the Clementi Community Centre.

Pandan Gardens Park ConneCtor oPensResidents can enjoy their regular walks and jogs at the Pandan Gardens Park Connector which extends from West Coast Road to the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE), running through residential areas and connecting to Pandan Reservoir and its fitness corner. The other end of the Pandan Gardens Park Connector is linked to Ulu Pandan Park Connector, which takes you through the Ghim Moh and Holland Grove estates, and Dover MRT Station. The Pandan Gardens Park Connector forms part of the Park Connector Network (PCN) island-wide under National Parks Board (NParks).

While using the park connectors, residents can also take in the relaxing atmosphere of Sungei Ulu Pandan and Sungei Pandan @ Pandan Gardens which have undergone the Active, Beautiful, Clean (ABC) Waters Programme under the Public Utilities Board (PUB).

What better way to enjoy your daily exercise and take in the beautiful neighbourhood with your family and friends!

The Active, Beautiful, Clean (ABC) Waters Programme is a long term initiative by PUB, in partnership with the 3P (People, Public, Private) sectors to transform utilitarian canals, drains and reservoirs in Singapore into beautiful, vibrant and clean flowing rivers, lakes and streams that blend naturally with the urban environment.

Come rain or shine, residents of Pioneer Zone 9 precinct, and parents with children in the nearby childcare centres will now have another convenient location to drop their family members off.

The newly completed sheltered drop-off porch cum covered walkway located between Block 601 and 613 Jurong West Street 62 was initiated by Mr Cedric Foo, Adviser to Pioneer Grassroots Organisations to complement his on-going initiative to build more early childhood development and childcare centres in Pioneer estate. Other complementary improvement projects in progress includes upgrading playgrounds near to new childcare centres.

Parents with children at the childcare centre near Block 601 and 613 couldn’t agree more. A mother said, “The new sheltered drop-off porch cum covered walkway is really convenient. Now, it doesn’t matter if it rains or shine, I know I can get my child to the centre nice and dry!”

Commuters using the Clementi MRT Station can expect a more pleasant commuting experience in the near future. They will be able to enjoy connecting features that enable easier access in an upgrading exercise. The enhanced convenience and comfort will be felt even more during the morning and evening peak periods.

Improvement works by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) include new entrance to the station for better commuter flow. The station will have an additional pedestrian link bridge connecting the station to the pavements on both sides of the roads. They will also provide commuters a safe means to cross the busy arterial roads. The new entrance will

Works at the station are in progress and are scheduled to complete by mid-2015.

As announced under Budget 2014, about 800,000 Singaporean households living in HDB flats will enjoy $80 million worth of Service & Conservancy Charges (S&CC) rebates. The Government will also provide a one-off GST Voucher (GSTV) – U-Save Special Payment worth $110 million in total to eligible Singaporean HDB households, on top of the Regular GSTV – U-Save rebates to help households offset their utilities bills.

*If you are paying for your S&CC through GIRO, no action is required on your part. The Town Council will arrange with your bank on the amount of S&CC that your household will have to pay to the Town Council, after taking the S&CC rebates into account.

Penduduk HdB menikmati rebat!Seperti yang telah diumumkan dalam Bajet 2014, kira-kira 800,000 isi rumah Warganegara Singapura yang tinggal di flat HDB akan menikmati $80 juta bernilai rebat Bayaran Perkhidmatam & Penyenggaraan (S&CC) bagi membantu mereka dengan belanjaan isi rumah secara umum.

Kerajaan akan memberi sekali sahaja Baucar GST (GSTV)-U-Save Khas Bayaran (U-Save Special Payment) bernilai $110 juta kesemuanya kepada rakyat Singapura yang tinggal diperumahan HDB. Pioneer Generation Package The Pioneer Generation Package was the topic of the day as 200 Ayer Rajah senior residents joined Ms Foo Mee Har, Adviser to Ayer Rajah Grassroots Organisations in a dialogue session to explain its benefits to the residents. The discussion on 16 Mar 2014 gave the senior residents an opportunity to ask questions about the package and most of them were satisfied with the new initiative.

Colours were the highlight at the Holi Festival at Ayer Rajah on Sunday, 16 Mar 2014. It was fun and laughter as about 100 residents joined Ms Foo Mee Har and celebrated the festival by throwing beautiful, strikingly coloured flour at one another. They were also entertained with games and delicious Indian dishes.

First to Jurong Bird Park then to lunch Boon Lay residents had a fun-filled outing to Jurong Bird Park on 16 Mar 2014 with their family and friends. Adviser to Boon Lay Grassroots Organisations, Mr Lawrence Wong also joined in the outing, which attracted 350 participants. They roamed the Park enjoying the interaction with a kaleidoscope of birds and were tickled by the birds’ show-stopping antics during the bird show. The participants were also treated to a sumptuous lunch to celebrate residents’ birthdays.

Bursary and scholarship recipients thank parents, teachersThe Edusave Awards ceremony in Boon Lay on 18, 19 and 26 Jan 2014 saw the recognition going beyond the students – to their parents and teachers. Selected students went on stage to deliver their gratitude speeches to their parents and teachers who had helped them in their studies. About 1,200 students received their awards from Adviser to Boon Lay Grassroots Organisations, Mr Lawrence Wong, in the presence of their parents and family members.

Students, residents and interest groups from the grassroots community came for the event, which was graced by Prime Minister, Mr Lee Hsien Loong during his community visit. The event, held at the Clementi Town Centre was full of “colour and spectacle”, according to a participant.

Pongal-o-PongalPioneer celebrated Pongal with buzz and colour on 26 Jan 2014. The celebration of the South Indian harvest festival attracted 300 participants and featured activities like dance performances, pot painting, and traditional games. The highlight was the drawing of Kolam by female adults on a big piece of paper and decorating it with coloured sugar, rice and powder.

edusave awards Presentation Ceremony1,300 students received Edusave awards on 18 Jan 2014 from Adviser to Pioneer Grassroots Organisations, Mr Cedric Foo. The presentation at The Frontier CC was witnessed by 500 family members and well-wishers. Mr Foo highlighted to the students the special love and care their parents put in to nurture them. The students hugged their parents who were standing beside them, some overwhelmed with tears. It was an emotional moment for all. The event also included a performance by Pioneer Chinese Orchestra and a tea session with Mr Foo for some students and their parents.

于2014年1月18日举行的先驱选区教育储蓄奖学金颁奖典礼上，共有1,300名助学金得主从先驱基层组织顾问符致镜先生的手中接获助学金。同时，符致镜先生也提醒在场的学生要感激父母对他们的呵护与栽培。同学们听了这一番话都很感动并拥抱身旁的父母以表达感激之意。出席典礼的家长及受邀宾客共有500人。

lunar new Year lo-hei CelebrationPioneer residents never turn down an opportunity to have a good time and to bond over festivities. They proved it again during Lunar New Year, with a turnout of over 1,100 for the ‘lo-hei’ feast on 8 Feb 2014. The celebration also featured performances and a lucky draw.

let’s sHare lUnar neW Year JoY!Lunar New Year celebrations at Telok Blangah was more meaningful this year. The Residents’ Gathering on 9 Feb 2014 was attended by 800 diners which included 200 guests from lower income families to share in the festive cheer with good food, performances and games. Adviser to Telok Blangah Grassroots Organisations, Mr Lim Hng Kiang was present to celebrate with residents.

直落布兰雅区于2014年2月9日举行了农历新年庆祝活动并邀请了200名来自低收入家庭的居民一起迎接马年的到来。共有800名出席者一起享用美食、欣赏精彩的文娱表演，共享新年的欢愉气氛。

i Can do it, so Can you! The tray return campaign at West Coast started on a strong footing on 29 Mar 2014 with a show of support from residents and food centre patrons. Grassroots volunteers paired up with teachers and 36 students from Qifa Primary School for the campaign, “I CAN do it, So CAN you!” which was launched by Mr S Iswaran at Ayer Rajah Food Centre. The students gave campaign stickers to food centre patrons to remind them to return their trays, and those who did received a token for their effort.

Friends of West Coast

Family sports Fiesta @ West CoastClementi Woods was a hive of activity on 2 Mar 2014 when more than 500 West Coast residents bonded over a fun-filled morning at the Family Sports Fiesta. Families and neighbours enjoyed themselves with activities like discovery walk, telematches, team relay and other games. Adviser to West Coast Grassroots Organisations, Mr S Iswaran, also joined in the event.

Dengue Fever is a viral disease transmitted by the Aedes mosquito and it can be fatal. The mosquito breeds in receptacles found in homes and those discarded at the common areas/open spaces in the estate; and it only takes seven days for the egg of an Aedes mosquito to hatch into an adult mosquito.

You can play a part in the fight against dengue fever by helping to prevent the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes. Please tick r the photographs showing acceptable practices and cross out t those showing unacceptable practices.

Dear Town Council,

I am really very impressed by the service standards that you have displayed. Seriously, it being a Friday today, and I texted only at 8+pm, I was half-expecting that my request will not be looked into. To my utter surprise, I just received a call from you to say that you’ve sent people to remove the trash and will even look into the chained up bicycle that is left in the stairwell.

Kudos to your team. Please put on record my deep appreciation and admiration of your pursuit for excellence. You indeed live up to the pursuit of harmony, opportunities and a sense of pride and belonging. Indeed, “Home is where the heart is”. For the first time, I am so proud to be a resident of this town council, having moved in in end 2011.

Once again, thank you. I believe my family and I have made the right choice in making Depot Road our home.
