Principals Welcome to 2020 Dear Families, I hope you have had a relaxing holiday period and have enjoyed quality time together. It was a dicult period of time, with bushres and the recent oods, for many people across Australia. I would like to acknowledge the incredible work that the volunteer reghters and others do within our communities. As a school we will continue to do our bit to support, and will hold future fundraisers to assist with the ongoing recovery eort. Our thoughts go out to all those aected. We look forward to seeing you back at school, which recommences at 8.50am on Tuesday 28th January. The ashphalt will be supervised from 8.30am and classrooms will begin to open from 8.40am so sta can welcome you and your children into their new learning environments. Children are to go straight to their new classrooms. A special welcome to all our new students and families due to commence at West Lakes Shore. Please pop in to speak to our friendly front oce sta should you require any support. We also welcome the following sta to our school: Meghan Otte as Year 7 teacher, Sophie Tye as Year 5 teacher, Michelle McDowall as Year 2/3 teacher and April Watt as Japanese Teacher. In addition we welcome Sara Bingapore who will undertake the role of ACEO ocer. Performing Arts position at Seacli� Primary School. Last term we said our �nal goodbye to Jayne Langley, ourCanteen Manager, who did an outstanding job. So�e Falidis will now take on the Canteen Manager role and wewelcome Caroline Bliss to �ll Sophie’s previous part -time canteen assistant role.

Sta� spent considerable time throughout the holiday period organising and preparing their learning spaces, andplanning an engaging curriculum for the term ahead. This term our whole-school Connected Curriculum will betitled ‘Adventure Seekers’ and will focus on supporting children to develop skills in being adaptable and resilientto change. Change is a constant and we need to ensure students have the strong foundational skill of adaptabilityso they can be successful lifelong learners. Our termly values focus will align with building resilience andsupporting students to see change in a positive way. As an inclusive school we work with children with a widerange of needs and endeavour to support every child’s social, emotional and academic needs. Please do nothesitate to pop in and let your child's class teacher know any information that can support your child/ren. Inresponse to the positive feedback and request for addition wellbeing hours in the family feedback last year, theWellbeing Hub will be open for additional hours in 2020. Rozika Pratap continues to lead this area and will bebased in the hub on Wednesday and Thursdays. Tracey Beavan, our site Pastoral Care Worker, will take on anadditional 12 hours SSO support and be based in the Wellbeing and Community Hubs, whilst also being prevalentin classes.

As part of this term’s learning we will host a whole-school day of action linked to Harmony Day. Other eventsinclude Sports Day, Bike Ed for Year 5 and Aquatics for Year 6 and 7.  Swimming for Reception to Year 5 has beenmoved from Term 1, and we will trial running it in 2020 in weeks 9 and 10 of Term 2. Further details about Term 1events and key information will follow. A provisional date of Monday 10th February has been set for our annualAcquaintance Evening. This is a time for you to meet and greet your child’s new teacher and see their classroom ina more informal capacity.

Enjoy the �rst day as your child/ren start(s) their new learning journey. We look forward to teaching, supportingand guiding them to grow as individuals.

GOVERNING COUNCIL AGM 2020Our Annual General Meeting will take place on Monday 10th February at 7.00pm in the school sta�room. The schoolhas a number of continuing members but will also be seeking nominations for new members. Please [email protected] to request a nomination form if you are interested in joining council in 2020.These need to be �lled out and returned to the front o�ce by COB on Friday 7th February. If you are interested in�nding out more about the role of a Governing Council member pleaseemail [email protected] or come along and collect a volunteer pack.

Other roles you may want to support in 2020 include classroom support, trips and excursions, sports day andsports programs, school action teams and canteen. We truly value the work that volunteers do and the di�erenceyou make. All 2020 volunteers will need to ensure they have completed the appropriate forms - Working withChildren Check (WWCC formally known as DCSI Clearance) and relevant RAN training, to be compliant with thedepartment Volunteer Policy and Processes. CHANGE OF DETAILS

We rely on families to keep us updated with change of address, phone numbers and any other relevant informationthat is essential to your childs enrolment at West Lakes Shore School.  Please advise us if you have recently movedor have new phone numbers. Remember if you have changed address we require the following:

If you own your home, you need to show both of these:

contract of sale for the property or a recent council rates noticerecent gas or electricity bill for the property.

If you rent a home, you need to show both of these:

rental agreement and a bond receipt lodged with Consumer and Business Services showing the current place ofresidence. The rental agreement should cover at least the �rst 12 months at the school.recent gas or electricity bill for that property.

You must give your child’s primary permanent home address, not a commercial, postal or mailing one.

SUNSMART

Please remember to pack a hat and water bottle to ensures you child stays sun safe. As a SunSafe School our policyaround hats is no hat, play in the shade.

OSHC

Our OSHC is open before and after school. Due to a large volume of interest there are waiting lists for Tuesday,Wednesday and Thursday after school.

Please inform OSHC as soon as possible if you no longer require care. This will support families new to the schoolwho are keen to secure spots. MEDICAL PLANS

All students that have medical conditions are to bring medication and new plans and/or medication agreementsdated 2019 to the front o�ce on the �rst day of school. If your child self medicates e.g. Asthma and carries theirown medication please ensure you inform their class teacher as due to a new policy additional paperwork needs tobe �lled out.

SCHOOL UNIFORM

If you need to replace any of your child's uniform please make sure to visit LOWES at West Lakes Mall.  The friendlysta� there will be happy to help you with your requirements.

Please remember that the following are not considered part of the West Lakes Shore School Uniform and are notallowed.
