COMPOSITION

MASS

SPACE An element of art, space refers to distances or areas around, between or within components of a piece. Space can be positive (white or light) or negative (black or dark), open or closed, shallow or deep and two-dimensional or three-dimensional. Sometimes space isn't actually within a piece, but the illusion of it is.

Maybe Art is a point of view- the angle from which we see the world.

Page 7: WHAT IS ART?

Perspective is an attempt to reproduce objects on a flat surface as they appear to the eye.

Page 8: WHAT IS ART?

Form refers to the visible elements of a piece, independent of their meaning. For example, in Leonardo's Mona Lisa, the formal elements are color, dimension, lines, mass, shape, etc., while the feelings of mystery and intrigue the piece evokes are informal products of the viewer's imagination.

Form is an element of art. At its most basic, a form is a three-dimensional geometrical figure (i.e.: sphere, cube, cylinder, cone, etc.), as opposed to a shape, which is two-dimensional, or flat.
