Camps for Rising 1st - 3rd Graders

Art Explorations Summer Sampler (Half-Day and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Camps Available) Get a taste of what the fine arts have to offer, exploring drawing, painting, sculpting, fibers, and more. With a different focus every day of the week, this camp offers budding art enthusiasts a chance to experience a variety of art media. ArtSplosions! Art/Science Lab Eek, boom, splash! Homemade goos, robots that can move, and plants that just dye to be different make their way into this artful science camp. From chemistry to ecology, drawing to sculpting...art and science explode at the CVA this summer. Boom! Pow! Wham! Graphic Novels (Comic Workshop) Cartoons, comics, and fantasies: They all grow from someone’s imagination! Campers will design their own characters and learn about creating graphic stories in a sequence. At the end of the week, you’ll take home the start of your own graphic story...start dreaming now. Clay Makers (Half-Day and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Camps Available) Campers will use a variety of methods to create sculptural and functional forms with clay. Through hands-on experiences, campers will develop an awareness and respect of ceramic forms, materials, and equipment. From basic hand building techniques like slab and coil building to freeform sculpting, we will explore it all! Fairies, Elves, and Trolls Once upon a time...where the story ends and your imagination begins. Young artists will discover and design creatures from our world and those out of this world, uncover mysteries of far off lands, and explore places no man has seen before. Find the connections between art and storytelling as you venture into a magical land of fairies, elves, and trolls. Garden Party (Half-Day and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Camps Available) Nurture your artistic green thumb with creations inspired by magical gardens full of flowers, plants, and bees. Campers will create their own indoor garden using a variety of artistic media, exploring natural forms, different types of gardens, and using art to learn and show how things grow. Happily Ever After Creative and original from cover to cover. . . Travel to storyland where books end and your story begins. What ever happened to the Seven Dwarfs after Snow White left? Did Peter Pan ever grow up? Campers will venture into a magical land and decide what comes next as they design and create their own storybooks with original artwork.

Invent It! Need to make life easier? Construct, transform, and light up this art camp with your very own inventions. Propose your idea to the “Shark Tank” for the day, and let your inner entrepreneur run wild. Knights and Princesses (Half-Day and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Camps Available) Join us for a week of medieval fun where your little princess gets the royal treatment or your young gentleman is transformed into a chivalrous knight of the round table. Design your own coat of arms, costumes, and decorations for Friday’s tea party and feast that students will not forget! Lemonade Stand Create all the essentials to get straight to business. Campers will develop signs, recipes, and accessories for your very own lemonade stand! Campers will market and set up their lemonade stand on Friday to serve to family, friends, and Cultural Center personnel. Munchies: Edible Art Does mom tell you not to play with your food? Here’s your chance to play with food all day! This camp is packed with projects that use food as the main art material. Make prints using lemons and limes, create inks from everyday veggies, and snack all day on leftovers from the tastiest of creations. On the Ball Campers create art about their favorite sports--from soccer and football to tennis and swimming. Budding creatives will refresh old sports by inventing new rules, design team logos, and engineer sports equipment never seen before. Paws & Claws (Half-Day and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Camps Available) Creatures of all kinds have escaped from the zoo and have come to the CVA! They’re stampeding through the halls and throwing paint on the walls! Campers will create creatures from our world and others using their imagination to discover their own Animal Planet. Quacks, roars, and meows will be heard far and wide when these young artists’ imaginations are unleashed! Pirates and Mermaids (Half-Day and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Camps Available) Ahoy, Matey! High seas ‘artventure’ abounds as young artists ride the waves of creativity! Campers will search for hidden treasures using handmade treasure maps, colorful flags, patches, and wearable pirate gear. They will also explore the world of the deep blue sea discovering treasures, mystical sea creatures, and mysterious new lands. Rhyme Time, Seuss Moose Take a nod from the best rhymer of all time and learn a thing or two from a kind-hearted moose. From nursery rhymes old and new to Seussville stories, this camp will have campers combining the literary and the visual arts in a variety of media. Campers will create their own illustrated rhymes, learn about characters, and have daily storytime from our favorite illustrated children’s books. Space Race (Half-Day and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Camps Available) And we’re off! Off to the moon, stars and far-away galaxies. Put on your space suit, jump in your rocket, and prepare for close encounters of the alien kind. Your young astronaut will explore the planets near and far faster than the speed of light, creating the visuals to document their explorations. Superhero Transformations (Half-Day and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Camps Available) Need a wand to practice spells? Would a cape or wings enhance your flying abilities? Need night vision goggles to complete your top-secret mission? In this camp, make whatever you need to be whoever you want to be! Time Travelers

Campers will build a time machine and explore art throughout history as they travel through time and have fun with their own creations. As they explore cave paintings to 20th century art and imagine futuristic art, this adventure is sure to have campers excited!

Camps for Rising 4th - 6th Graders

Animation & Character Design

In this digital illustration camp, campers bring their own video game characters to life. Campers begin by creating hand-drawn original characters, then develop storyboards and scenes. The final product? Their own animated short.

Anime (Half-Day and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Camps Available) Campers will learn the fundamentals of drawing characters while working through developing a narrative, character design, and storyboarding. From basic drawing shapes, young artists will expand their skills to create graphic representations of the anime characters in their imaginations. Art Around the World Join us for an epic adventure around the world. Enjoy festival fun as we learn about celebrations around the world. Campers will visit a different country each day and learn about the land and its traditions through stories, music, and art. Draw U Learn the art of portraiture and figure drawing, from facial structure and proportions to shading and tones. Campers will work with a variety of media including charcoal, oils, and clay as they learn the anatomy of the face and figure from the inside out. Invent It! Would you fight crime like our friendly neighborhood Spiderman or stroll the streets of Gotham like Batman? Use your imagination and inspiration from your favorite comic stars to create your own unique heroes and villains as you develop a comic of your very own. Mazes and Maps Is your child fascinated by maps? Prepare to be aMAZEd by this fun camp! Students will work with various materials to create 2-D and 3-D mazes and maps, including maps of familiar places around them and worlds they imagine in their dreams. Pottery & Sculpture Campers will use a variety of methods to create sculptural and functional forms with clay and other materials. Throughout the week, campers will explore through hands-on experience as they develop an awareness and respect for sculptural forms, materials, and equipment. Print Party Stamp, etch, pull, press, and roll the day away! Celebrate the art of printmaking using a variety of traditional and nontraditional methods and materials. You never know where ink will end up, so don’t forget to dress for mess! ReDesign, ReCreate, ReUse Explore the natural world to find your eco-friendly inspiration. Using clay, paper mache, and recycled and found objects, young artists create functional and decorative masterpieces that reduce a little waste and make their footprint on the world an artsy one. Sketchbook (Half-Day and 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Camps Available) This camp is for kids who love to draw! Campers begin the week creating their own sketchbooks and adding to them each day. This week will focus on developing your own character--understanding the dynamics of the character’s face, the art of exaggeration, body construction, action lines, structural and center lines, and composition. Leatherworking, Beading, and Wire-Wrapping Campers will use various techniques for creating one-of-a-kind pieces of jewelry and accessories that are limited only by their imaginations. Explore basic beading, leather, wire-wrapping, paracording, and more to make jewelry, keychains, and other accessories. Painting & Mixed Media Students work with acrylics and various other media to create one-of-a-kind pieces that are sure to be the focus of conversation when displayed in any room. Just for Preschoolers - Rising Kindergarteners Garden Party Nurture your artistic green thumb with creations inspired by magical gardens full of flowers, plants, and bees. Fine motor skills, coordination, and self-esteem will be enhanced as your tot explores the world around them through art.

Summer Art Intensive Programs

for Rising 8th - 12th Graders ONLY

The Summer Art Intensive camps are designed for the serious young artist who is interested in exploring art as a career or continuing studies on the university level. Participants have an opportunity to explore their interests while gaining practical knowledge and skills to prepare for the creation of their portfolios. These camps are taught by artists who specialize in each field who are able to share from their experiences and expertise. Each of these camps is a week-long camp from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Choose one week or all three!

Center for Visual Artists Summer Art Camp 2019 Policies and Procedures

CAMP REGISTRATION

Advanced registration is required for ALL camps.

Registration must be completed by the Wednesday

prior to the start of camp on Monday. You may

register for camps at the CVA either in person or

online.

Online: Register at www.greensboroart.org.

In Person: Register in the CVA office on the 4th floor

of the Greensboro Cultural Center or in the CVA

Gallery on the 2nd floor.

Camps are filled in the order registrations are

received. Online registrations will receive an email

confirmation of registration. Campers may not attend

any camp without registration and contact

information on file.

A TYPICAL CAMP DAY

Daily camp activities include guided art lessons based

on camp theme, outdoor/indoor recess, and

lunch/snack time. Some camps may include

storytime, on-site gallery visits, group projects,

outdoor art projects, etc. For morning/afternoon

camps, please send your child with a snack each day.

If your child is registered for both morning and

afternoon camps in the same week, please also send a

lunch with your child each day. For 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

camps, please send a snack and a lunch with your

child each day. A lot of energy is needed for our

camps!

Preschool parents: All preschoolers must be potty

trained to attend camp. As the preschool camps are

mornings only, you only need to send a snack with

your child.

You can expect plenty of artwork to come home with

your child during the week. As our art camps are very

hands on, remember always to dress for mess!

Camp check-in & check-out are located on the 4th

floor of the Greensboro Cultural Center. All campers

must be checked in/out each day by

parents/guardians.

CAMP PAYMENTS

All payments MUST be paid at time of registration.

Payment plans are available for camp fees over $400.

A $25 charge will be assessed for all returned checks.

Financial and Artist Merit Scholarship opportunities

are available.

CAMP CANCELLATION POLICY

The CVA makes every effort to maintain the schedule

of our camps. However, we reserve the right to

cancel any camp not meeting a minimum enrollment,

combine classes, and to substitute faculty when

necessary. Camp cancellations are decided 3 business

days prior to the start date.

REFUNDS & CREDITS

Fees are 100% refundable if the CVA cancels a camp

due to insufficient enrollment. Registrant

cancellations are 100% transferable into another

camp/credit or 50% refundable.

All camp cancellations must be made no later than

one week prior to your registered camp start date.

No refunds or credit vouchers will be issued after this

final cancellation time. Credit vouchers are good for 6

months from the issue date must be presented at

time of use. Credit vouchers will not be reissued due

to loss.

CAMP SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENTS

Camp enrollment is limited, and we make every effort

to maintain our camp capacity. No camp schedule

adjustments may be made less than a week prior to

your registered camp start date. Registrants on

payment plans that cancel a camp will be charged a

$25 cancellation fee per camp cancelled.

LATE PICK-UP POLICY

A late pick-up fee of $15 will be charged for campers

picked up after 12:45 p.m. for morning camps, 5:45

p.m. for afternoon camps, and 3:15 p.m. for 9 a.m. to

3 p.m. camps.

Liability & Permissions We take campers outside, weather permitting, to LeBauer Park for breaks during the day. Campers are under constant supervision

Kindergarten camps are morning camps only and will be held weeks 2, 5, and

9. Rising 8th-12th grade camps are 6-hour camps only and will be held weeks

1, 4, and 8.

Pre-Camp Hours = 8 a.m. to 9 a.m.

Post-Camp Hours = 3 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

6-Hour Camp Hours = 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

AM Camp Hours = 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

PM Camp Hours = 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
