UPPER ROGUE MOOSE NEWSLETTER Volume 19, Issue 1 July 2016 Editor: Marla Allison
We will be CLOSED on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, July 2nd, 3rd, and 4th so everyone can enjoy the holiday with their families and friends. We will resume our regular schedule on Tuesday, July 5th with burgers and bingo.
the Column command on the Format menu, which causes text
in column 1 to flow or “snake” to column 2 on the same page.
By using linked text boxes, you can instead have text from
column 1 flow to column 1 on the next page. The text beside it
in column 2 can flow to column 2 on the next page, parallel to
column 1. This technique is useful if you need to group two
similar articles, for instance, an article translated in English on
the left and the same article translated in French on the right.
To flow text in parallel, display paragraph marks in your
document. Click at the top of the page where you want the side-
by-side columns to start, and press Enter twice. Click in the first
paragraph mark on the page. On the Insert menu, click Text
Box and drag on the page where you want the first column.
Click Text Box again and then click and drag where you want
the second column. Click in the last paragraph mark on the
page, and press Ctrl + Enter to create a page break.
Repeat the process for each page that will contain side-by-side
columns in your document and then return to the first text box
you created. Click the text box on the left once to select it. Click
your right mouse button and then click Create Text Box Link.
The pointer becomes a pitcher. Click the text box on the left
side of the second page to create a link. Create links for all text
boxes within the same article on the left side of the document.
Repeat the process for every text box in the right chain or
article.
Pressing Enter twice at the top of each page will create an extra
empty paragraph. This blank paragraph is useful if you want to
insert text or graphics outside of the text boxes. You can delete
the extra blank paragraph if you don't need it.

What’s Happening at the
Moose in Shady Cove? Where are we going? How do we get there?
Actually, things are looking better all the time!
Many of our members are stepping in to lend a hand at
keeping us vibrant and growing. Our Tuesday burger
and bingo nights are really hopping! Our poker players
are showing up every Monday and Thursday to have a
good time of playing poker and joking around and,
thanks to a few faithful volunteers, we can enjoy a nice
dinner on Friday nights and a delightful breakfast on
Sunday mornings. We still need more of our members to
participate to keep things going, so please consider
jumping in once in a while to show your support. We are
a family fraternity so kids are welcome to come for meals
and some fun in our dining room too!
Summertime is busy for all of us. It’s a good time to
have a nice cool Lodge where you can come and relax,
have a reasonably-priced meal, and visit with your
friends. Keep us in mind when you have visitors from
out of the area – this really is the friendliest place in
town and we’d love to meet your friends and family too!
The pool table is usually always available and always free
to play so bring your cue (or use ours) and give it a go!
We have a few games for the kids, including Chess,
checkers, cards and puzzles. There’s a free book lending
library for those lazy summer afternoons and there’s
even a horseshoe pit out back - so take advantage of all
that your Lodge has to offer!
Our Lodge is going somewhere and we would like to
invite you all along. In order to get there, we need your
help and your participation – simple as that.
Hop aboard and enjoy the ride!
We want to wish you all a safe and joyful holiday with a BIG THANK-YOU to all our military families - active and retired.
God Bless the USA!!!
BOOSTER CLUB
For $25 (or more if you so desire) you and your spouse can have
your name(s) added as Booster Club Member(s) for one year. All
funds will be used to improve/beautify the Lodge. As your name
nears the top of the list, you will note that Booster Club annual
dues are soon due.
Dale & Barb Callaway $100 3/27/16 WOTM Chapter 2206 $120 6/13/16
A BIG thank-you to our WOTM for their contribution to the Booster Club from the Yard Sale
proceeds in June!
From the Gov’na
Nick Barbato
Things are looking good at the Lodge of
late. Snowbirds are back adding to our
cliental, Cooks are making great meals, (I
had some great lasagna last Friday), and
bartenders are really working hard at
keeping the lodge profits in the plus
column.
From the Administrator
Lonnie &Marla
Allison
Most of you probably know why there is a
picture of both my wife and me. We’ve
been a team for a long time so I guess
there’s no reason to change that now!
I will be busy all summer at the Air Base
so it’s going to be her job to keep things
on an even keel there.
You won’t see me at the Lodge much so if there are any
questions or concerns, please let her know so she can relay the
information to me. Better yet, let’s get someone in the
Administrator’s job that can be more hands-on. If you, or
anyone you know, might be willing to step into this role –
please let us know!

2016 International Moose Convention July 1 – 5
Thousands of Moose members will descend upon the “Gateway to the West,” St. Louis, Missouri, over the first weekend in July for what should be an entertaining and informative 2016 International Moose Convention. It’s a great time to get together with other Moose members and learn more about what being a Moose really means. There are conferences, competitions, workshops, joint sessions, a concert, and lot of fun activities to enjoy. If you have never been to an International Convention, make plans now to attend next year! You will come away with a much better understanding of all the things that we, as a fraternity, do for our communities, and for Mooseheart and Moosehaven. Together, we DO have a positive impact on the WORLD!
Volunteers of the Month
LOTS of folks have been stepping up lately so we wanted to thank several of them this month!
*Dale and Barbara Callaway* These two have returned to us after a long absence. They had relocated and were doing a lot of traveling due to Dale’s line of work. Lucky for us he’s now retired and they are ready to help us out! They jump-started our lagging Booster’s Club as soon as they arrived and have also jumped right into the kitchen! We are so thankful for this energetic couple and are looking forward to joining forces with them to keep our Lodge on the way to recovery!
*Tim Reeves* Tim is a long-time Shady Cove resident and – Lucky for us – has recently retired from the fire department. He has been doing all he can to help our last month’s recipient of Co-Worker, Sue Elliott, and this team has been showing up consistently to make sure we have burgers on Tuesday nights, as well as meals on some of our other nights! Tim says he’s no cook but he can be found in the kitchen, rolling up his sleeves and pitching in. Our Lodge is blessed to have such a hard-working team on board!
*Dennis Gerke* Dennis is a familiar face on poker nights, always ready with a smile and a big hug whenever we see him! Dennis was the gym teacher and coach at Eagle Point High and since his retirement and joining our Lodge, he has helped to organize many of the games during our special events. He has also done a lot of the outside work like mowing, weed-eating, and general clean-up. It’s people like Dennis that inspire us to do more for each other and our Lodge. Thanks Dennis! You’re a Peach!
Hello Co-Workers!
Summer is here! The WOTM have had 2 successful
fundraisers already this year with our new Board! We had
a great BBQ last May. Thank you Kim Martin for
cooking all of the meat. It was delicious! Thank you to all
who brought salads, sides and desserts. A great time was
had by everyone who attended. As a result, the WOTM
was able to donate $120 to the Booster Club and $120 to
our Christmas General Fund. Kim YOU ROCK! As well
as being our Grill Master for the BBQ, Kim also
coordinated the Yard Sale held at the MOOSE and
generated almost $300 for our June fundraiser. A HUGE
Thank You to everyone that donated items for this event.
We may be small in numbers, but we have a Mighty
positive impact in our community!
Our next fundraiser will be with the Poker Players. Check
out our monthly calendar for the day and time and come
down and play! I would also like to say THANK YOU to
all of you that have volunteered your time and for
stepping up with our Board being short a Senior Regent.
Without our volunteers, it would be difficult to
accomplish so much! The WOTM and the LOOM have
shown great teamwork so far this year and have
accomplished so much already! Having fun while helping
others is our mission. Please keep bringing in those BOX
TOPS and we still need travel sized toiletries.
If you are helping out in the community, then come down
and fill out our service report found on the table by the
front door in the dining hall. Remember, if you see
someone helping out- put their name in the box. We will
keep you informed of future activities, so check the
monthly calendars! We are still in need for cooks and
servers.
Let’s have a safe and fun summer!

*Helen Voster* We can never say enough about our wonderful co-worker Helen. She is so faithful to come down and help at most all of our special functions! Helen is here early on Tuesdays and Fridays to help set things up and we have all enjoyed her wonderful desserts! Helen has been with our Chapter for many years. She has inspired us all to work harder – just to keep up with HER! Helen, you are a precious resource in our midst.
