COMMODORE'S CUP FEATURED BIG WINDS, HOT COMPETITIONSaturday morning, April 30, dawned clear and crisp with a fresh breeze outof the northwest. By the time racing started in the 2011 Commodore's CupRegatta, the wind was at 15 to 20 knots, giving the fleet of two C15s, sixCal20s and 13 Lasers all the excitement they could handle. Sunday's windswere less forceful, but still provided enough propulsion to keep thingsinteresting. The Cal20s finished up their competition on Saturday afternoon with firstplace going to Kelly Pike skippering Argo; second place to Mike Day at thehelm of Minnehaha; and third place went to Uranus, skippered by BillKlear. Also competing was Ray Durazo on Happy Hour, Marcus Choy onGreen Dragon, and Lucy Gillies on Venus Envy, who finished in that order. The C15s and Lasers continued racing on Sunday and when final regattaresults were announced, Charlie Quest led the C15s. In the Laser class, thetop three spots went to Tracy Usher (1st), Jon Andron (2nd), and DavidLapier (3rd). The regatta featured one of the largest showing of Lasers inrecent memory with sailors coming in from around the Bay Area, a goodomen for Laser enthusiasts in the Club. "I want to extend heartfelt thanks to all those who made this year'sCommodore's Cup a success," stated Commodore Ray Durazo. "Specialthanks to the Race Committee, headed by Richard Calabrese and HeatherSprague; to Lucy Gillies, chair of the Sailing Committee; to RearCommodore Mike Mann; to Staff Commodore Terry Ramseyer who made LaBoheme available for RC boat; to Dave Morris for the trophies; to CurtisWalling and Ethan Jug for chase boat duty; and, most of all, to the racerswho braved the strong winds to give us some thrilling action. Congratulations to all."
