Welcome to the Spring edition of the ‘What’s On’ magazine.

Another extremely difficult financial year has come and gone with leading economists forecasting continued challenging economic times during 2013/2014.

In light of this, it is satisfying to advise that the Club's financial performance has continued to improve with an unaudited Net Profit of around $70,000 for the year ended 30th June, 2013. This represents an operating improvement of approximately $315,000 on last year’s comparative Net Loss of $238,024. The Club’s financial position is considered sound with positive cashflows and accumulated cash reserves of $860,071 as at 30th June 2013. I refer you to the Club’s 2013 Annual Report which will be available by download from our website www.clubforster.com.au from Friday 30th September, 2013 or you may collect a hard copy from Club Forster's Administration Office.

I am very excited and pleased to report the commencement of vitally important capital improvement building works at Club Forster. This scope of works include the relocation of the existing 'Brasserie on Strand' to the ground floor which will also include a new café, bar, lounge and toilets. Again, I refer you to page 14 for further details.

'Kenny’s Thai Kitchen' has opened at Club Forster. Arguably the finest Thai Chef in the Great Lakes, Kenny’s is open Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner. Don’t forget to call early on 6591 6591 to make reservations for dinner, Christmas parties or any other special occasion.

If you’re planning to spend and enjoy Christmas with family and friends at our Club, please reference page 25 of this journal to view details of our very special Christmas Day Buffet Luncheon - this year being held for the first time in the very popular Breakers Restaurant at the Sporties Tuncurry. I strongly suggest that you book early, as we will only have limited tickets available for this very special event.

In closing, I encourage you to attend our 2013 AGM being held on Sunday 27th October 2013 at 10 a.m. with refreshments and great entertainment by the great Jade Hurley to follow.

CLUB FORSTER’S PROPOSED BUILDING WORKSOn behalf of the Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce the commencement of vitally important capital building improvement works at Club Forster.

The scope of these works include the relocation of the existing ‘Brasserie On Strand’ to the ground floor, which will also include a new café, bar and lounge. Refurbishment of the existing ground level poker machine toilet facilities will also be completed..

Q: When did building work commence?A: Work commenced in July, 2013.Q: When will it be completed?A: Completion is expected to be in late December, 2013.Q: Do these works mean job opportuities for local trades people?A: Yes, as with all previous capital works, the Club always gives preference to local building contractors, trades people, and local building suppliers wherever possible and reasonable. The provision of new facilities may also bring with it a demand for additional employees.Q: What disruption will there be to the Club’s services during these works?A: Board and Management will endeavour to ensure any inconvenience to patrons, or disruption to services, will be kept to an absolute minimum.Q: How much will the scope of work cost?A: Approximately $3 million.Q: Can the Club afford to complete this building work?A: Yes, and this has been confirmed by the Club’s auditors, HMM Accountants and Building Consultants and the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.Q: What if Members want to know more?A: Management is available to conduct guided walk through tours of the proposed building works, or if any Members have restricted mobility, they may call and speak with myself on 6591 6528 at your convenience.

"Yin dee ton rab"Means "Welcome" in Thai - and a huge welcome plus the very best of authentic Thai cuisine is exactly what you can expect at Club Forster's brand new and exciting dining experience - 'Kenny's THAI Kitchen'.

Somkiat Vannasiripong (known as Kenny) was born in Bangkok, Thailand, and gained his great Thai cooking skills and expertise through working in his family's restaurant. At 26 years of age, Kenny headed to Australia (an adopted country that he holds with great passion) and began work here in several restaurants located in North Sydney and Surry Hills.

From there he ventured into his own restaurant called 'Rum Thai' in Bondi Junction.

After about 6 years he travelled to what we call 'paradise' - the beautiful Great Lakes, fell in love with the area, and where he now calls home.

Kenny has become a very well-known personality and much loved loved chef in the area, and you may even see Kenny around town with his two georgeous Maltese/Shitzu cross puppies whom he loves to parade with great pride.

Club Forster welcomes Head Chef Kenny and his team and look forward to many years of successful patronrage from a very enthusiastic population!

Along with Kenny, another great local chef, Eric Griffith joins the team!

Eric is no stranger to the restaurant industry having served his apprenticeship from the age of 16 years at none other than the Chevron Hilton at Kings Cross.

As a young apprentice, Eric attained very high standards and won both a Silver and Bronze medal at TAFE for 'Best Apprentice of the Year'.

His achievements did not go unoticed and Eric gained employment at several first class hotel restaurants such as the Sheraton Wentworth Garden Court Restaurant where he worked as Sous Chef for 3 years, the Travelodge North Sydney as chef, and a very prestigious position as Head Chef for David Jones Catering, Market Street, Sydney.

Eric then ventured into his own successful à la carte establishment, 'Cookies Bistro' within the Engadine Hotel.

After 10 years, Eric made his way to the Great Lakes where he has become a very well known and highly respected chef.
