Make It Happen Fashion Show Fundraiser - In Honor of a very special boy, Connor.Throughout his life, Connor was always taking care of others. Before he passed away last December 21st, Connor asked his family if they would do one more thing for him. He wanted to grant a wish for another child in his memory. In his words, he wanted to send another “cancer warrior” on their wish. Let’s make Connor’s dream come true in a BIG way
We want to not only grant one wish in Connor’s memory, but as many as we possibly can. With your help, we’re going to send lots of “cancer warriors” on their wish, so they too will knowthe joy that Connor experienced that day.

That’s right! Volunteer Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows, the local Volunteer Centre and program of Maple Ridge Pitt/Meadows Community Services, has an open invitation for all volunteers in our community to enjoy a free appreciation pancake breakfast during National Volunteer Week April 21 – 27. This is the fourth year Red Robin Restaurant is generously hosting the event.
Volunteer Maple Ridge – Pitt Meadows is the source for fi nding volunteer opportunities with nearly 60 member organizations such as the ACT, Ridge Meadows Hospital and Alouette River Management Society. Without the generous donation of ones time as a volunteer, many programs would not be able to function and provide services to others in the community. For this reason, the Volunteer Centre and its members extend this invitation to volunteers as an expression of gratitude.
The pancake breakfast will be held at Red Robin Restaurant in Maple Ridge located at 22701 Lougheed Hwy on Sunday April 21, 2013. Doors open at 9am and volunteers are welcome to bring a guest to enjoy breakfast with them. To ensure a seat, register online at www.comservice.bc.ca/jobs/volunteering or contact the Coordinator at 604-467-6911 ext. 230.

SPUDS YOU’LL LIKE!The humble potato is a cheap and tasty vegetable.
Here are some recipes where the potato takes centre stage...
Potato, Sausage & Bean Bake
This recipe is a big hit with kids, it’s easy and can be customised to your families tastes.
2.2 lbs new potatoes 1 onion - sliced8 sausages - cooked and sliced2 x 400g tins baked beans150g grated cheesechilli sauce & worcestershire sauce (optional)large ovenproof dish
MethodHeat the oven to 200°C. Cook the potatoes until tender. Be careful not to overcook. Slice the potatoes and layer half over the bottom of the dish. Top with half the onion, 1 tin of beans, a third of the cheese, half the sausages and the sauces if you are using. Then add the next layer of potatoes, beans, onions, sausages and top with the remaining cheese. Bake for 20 mins.
Spicy SpudsAdapted from a recipe by Madhur Jaffrey these potatoes are delicious. There are a lot of ingredients but they’re worth it!
5-6 red skinned potatoes59 ml vegetable oil
10 ml black mustard seeds10 ml cumin seeds10 ml ground coriander5 ml turmeric5 ml chilli powder (optional)5 ml lemon juice10 ml garam masala salt
MethodBoil the potatoes in their skins until soft. Drain, cool, peel and break into small pieces. Meanwhile in a non-stick pan heat the oil on a medium heat. Once hot, add the mustard & cumin seeds. When the seeds begin to pop add the ginger, chillies, coriander, tur-meric and chilli powder. Stir until the ginger starts to colour then add the spuds and stir really well to coat them all with the spices. Sprinkle over the lemon juice, garam masala & salt and fry until the spuds start to crisp. Turn regularly and serve once they are nice and browned. I like mine extra crispy.
Warm Potato SaladThis recipe serves two greedy adults!
1.1 lbs of new potatoes
4 spring onions - sliced6 radishes - sliced
bag of salad leaves1 avocado - halved and cubedvinaigrette dressing (olive oil & lemon juice)
MethodBoil the potatoes in their skins until cooked. Meanwhile prepare the salad on two plates. In a non stick pan cook the bacon pieces. When starting to crisp, tip in the cooked potatoes and fry for a few minutes. Divide between the two plates - drizzle with dressing and season to taste.

Lessons in Grace & Courtesy: From the time children enter the Montessori environment, we teach them about grace and courtesy. We use soft voices and gentle words to help direct children to make appropriate choices. We never belittle, ridicule, or use sarcasm. We teach manners and develop empathy in our young charges. We teach conflict resolution. These early lessons in Grace & Courtesy impact who the child becomes as a future member of our society.
KinderHeart Montessori offers a variety of preschool classes;including extended all-day programs in preparation for Kindergarten.

Alistair and his sister Millie were small, terrifi ed, semi-feral kittens when they came to Katie’s Place. With intensive TLC and love from their foster family, these two have grown into happy, healthy, socialized youngsters. Alistair is the big tabby with the scalloped
markings. He is nervous about being picked up but likes tummy rubs and treats. Alistair is bonded to Millie and feels threatened when she is not around, so the two of them must be adopted together to an indoor only home.
Millie is the more delicate-looking dilute tortoiseshell / tabby. Her foster family describes her as “a little darling, who loves to be made a fuss of and sit on laps and purrs. She gives her brother a very hard time in a rough and tumble, and she likes treats.” Coming from semi-
feral backgrounds, they can still be startled by hustle and bustle so they will need to go into a home with no small children or dogs. These two sweethearts are in foster care so please contact to arrange a meeting.

The Canadian Mosaic Project Comes To Ridge Meadows!
Since the beginning of the Canadian Mosaic Project on October 1st, 2008, 16,040 portraits from every province and territory in Canada have been created by photojournalist, Tim Van Horn.
Visit www.canadianmosaic.ca to learn more and see the journey so far...
aic aits da
Every year until 2017, Tim Van Horn will traverse the Canadian cultural landscape, interviewing and photographing thousands of Canadians. Each one of us has a story to tell and to share. The Canadian Mosaic project brings our unique, interconnected stories together into one spell-binding visual.
During the month of January Tim was in Mission taking photos. We’re very privileged that Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows and the surrounding area will be included in this fanastic project. The Canadian Mosaic project’s mission is to create an astonishing 36,000 portraits. This number represents a seemingly miniscule .1% of the population of Canada but it will be the most comprehensive portrait ever created on the Canadian people.
On Canada Day in 2017, for Canada’s 150th birthday, a larger-than-life 30x100 foot This living tapestry of life, will play an instrumental role to bring together the people of Canada. The mission is to form, capture and assemble visually, the
positive values as the centre.
The Canadian Mosaic project is about the people and for you the people!
