Interactive lecture introducing the concepts of atoms, elements,

compounds, and mixtures

• You have one minute to list all the things you observe within the classroom.

• You now have two minutes to list characteristics all of the items have in common.

• Share your list with your lab partner and create a explanation of how all the items in this room are similar.

• With your lab partner, you have two minutes to explore and list your observations about the pieces found in the basket.

• Share observations with the class

• Select one piece from the baggie and draw in the first block of the graphic organizer
