_ what?Building with zero-impact gets essential if we imagine to house a growing world population, both in rural and urban contexts. Raw earth, which is available almost everywhere, can provide several useful features for sustainable buildings: stability, hygrometric balance, low grey energy demand along with the possibility for implementation with less specialized labour.

The workshop proposed here focuses on light structures made of raw earth, namely wattle-and-daub and light straw.

The two techniques will be the basis to investigate into two specific aspects:

_ Mediterranean climate: how must a building skin be conceived to work well both in summer and winter conditions?

_ Prefabrication and self-construction: Can the contribution of non specialized voluntary work cope with the needs of modern building sites?

The workshop will combine thematic sessions, design moments and hands-on work for the realisation of a small community building.

_ who?AK0 is a no-profit association based in Rome. Research and education on sustainable architecture are among the main topics of the team. A specific focus is on building with natural materials such as raw earth, timber and bamboo.

Locally, SabinARTi, a cultural association that aims at promoting its territory through artistic and cultural activities, supports the project.
