Also Affect Consumption
• Lamb is reserved for special occasions…
– Is expensive, and
– Is not considered consumer friendly.
• Given lamb’s comparative price point this will be
difficult to overcome.
• Frozen sheepmeat is not seen as fresh,
therefore, the taste is not as good (perception).
• Lamb is not seen as nutritional, or healthy when

• Short Term
– Decrease in supply from major suppliers i.e. Australia,
US and NZ is supporting per head returns
– Changing Product Mix to focus on higher margins
– Demand in recession focused on NZ strengths at
retail, lower priced product by trading down from food
service to retail
– Downside is effect at food service in US
– Procurement pressure
– Exchange rate GBP and EU concern.
