WHY STUDY ART AT CARLOW?

Carlow offers an interdisciplinary art program that combines studio hours grounded in the history of art. Classes are taught by highly respected, professional artists with more than 70 years of combined experience in the studio and art history. During the first two years, you receive a solid art foundation and then work in-depth in one or more areas of specialization, including ceramics, painting and drawing, art history, or art education. Classes are small enough so art faculty can provide you with individual attention and a supportive environment to explore and hone your talent and skills.

ARTThis program provides a strong foundation in art history and studio art:

design, drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, computer art, and

sculpture. Electives and directed study in a variety of media include fiber

arts, ceramics, and mixed media.

BIOLOGY WITH CONCENTRATION IN AUTOPSY SPECIALIST CarlowUniversityofferstheonlyautopsyspecialistconcentrationinthe

in biology. This highly selective program gives you the opportunity to study

with pathologists who perform autopsies in a state-of-the-art, operating

room-style cadaver lab and access to specialty science labs and classrooms.

CRIMINAL JUSTICEGroundedinsociologicalconceptsoffamily,community,andsociety,criminal

justice majors understand where, how, and why crimes affect individuals,

families, and societies and how we can respond to change those dynamics.

pre-law, counseling, or crisis and trauma.

FORENSIC ACCOUNTING Carlow is one of only a few schools nationwide that offers an undergraduate

degree in forensic accounting. The program’s curriculum was built in

consultation with a Pittsburgh firm that specializes in fraud cases.

PHILOSOPHYIn the philosophy program, students develop analytical reasoning, critical

reading, and effective communication skills required for success in law school,

graduate programs, or public policy careers. Philosophy’s emphasis on the

purpose, content, and methods of ideas and argumentation make it applicable

across fields or as a stand-alone major.

PRE-LAW ADVISING PROGRAMCarlow’sPre-LawAdvisingProgramhelpsstudentsidentifyandachieve

career goals through academic counseling, informational programming, and

internship placement. Students can build a future that begins on campus and

PRE-LAW MINORThe pre-law minor, open to students in any major, provides a structured

program of study to prepare students for graduate or professional education

or employment in law and law-related fields. The pre-law minor develops and

enhances analytical reasoning, critical reading, and effective communication

skills that are required for successful placement in graduate or professional

school or law and law-related careers.

At Carlow, we believe experience is one of the best teachers. Because of our strong reputation for preparing good teachers and our ideal location, Carlow has an excellent history of placing students in schools for observations and student teaching. Students have easy access to Pittsburgh’s extensive systems of public, parochial, and private schools—including The Campus School of Carlow University, located on the Carlow campus —as well as the opportunity to complete student teaching in Ireland. With more than 150 hours of classroom observation and 450 hours of classroom teaching, you will be prepared to handle situations impossible to simulate in a university classroom.

EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATIONThis certification prepares you to work with children from birth through nine

years of age. Carlow offers early childhood teacher certification in accordance

withnewPennsylvaniaDepartmentofEducationguidelines.

MIDDLE LEVEL EDUCATIONThis certification prepares you to work with students in grades

four through eight with content specialties in English/language

arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.

SECONDARY EDUCATION (TO INCLUDE BIOLOGY, CHEMISTRY, ENGLISH, HISTORY, MATH, ART)This certification prepares you to teach one or more content areas in grades

seven through 12. You major in the content area you wish to teach—biology,

chemistry, English, general science, mathematics, or social studies—and are

encouraged to prepare yourself in a second teaching area.

SPECIAL EDUCATIONThis program prepares you to meet the needs of children with a wide variety

of mental, physical, social, emotional, and behavioral disabilities in multiple
