School Council 2020
School Council met on Tuesday night for its Annual General meeting followed by a general meeting. Office bearers are President: Rebekah Perryman, Vice president: Ben Rowbottom, Treasurer Claire Stewart, Minutes Secretary Helen Forrest. Laurie Whyte was elected as a community representative on School Council.
During the General meeting, School Council thanked past President Laurie Whyte for his service to Eaglehawk North Primary School. Laurie is a past student of the school his children have attended the school over a number of years. Laurie has always had an interest in all ensuring that the children at Eaglehawk North have great facilities, and fantastic programs that offer them the potential to become proactive community members as they grow up.

At the general meeting, the following polices were reviewed and accepted Anaphylaxis, Computer and Internet Use and Drug Education. The Communication with the School Community Policy was held over until the current communications working party presents its recommendations to School Council at its next meeting.
School Council has set up a working party with the aim of streamlining the various methods of communication to the community. One of its recommendations is to place all weekly grade news on Class Dojo rather than in the newsletter. This will commence at the start of Term 2. If you are not on Class Dojo yet, please see your child’s teacher for details or contact the office.
School Council acknowledged that Eaglehawk North would not be involved in the Team China Overseas learning Experience in 2020 due to ongoing concerns with COVID-19 virus.
There will be a special meeting of School Council on 21st April at 7:00pm to endorse Eaglehawk North’s Annual Report.
Dahlia and Arts
Don’t forget our entry in the Dahlia and Arts procession on Saturday 21st March. There is more detail inside the newsletter.
Reading Nights
Eaglehawk North places a great emphasis on reading both at school and at home, and it has been pleasing to see that many of my Principal Awards reflect children’s successes in this area. The school has an aim that all of our children read 200 nights at home. Many of our children are well on the way to achieving this aim. I would encourage you all to work with your children to help us be successful with our home reading goal of 200 nights.
Friday Assembly
Due to staff participating in Literacy sessions this Friday, there will be no assembly.
COVID - 19
The Department of Education continues to monitor the current situation with Covid-19 with the Victorian community. Currently the advice the school has received is that if children are well they should attend school. I have included a link to the Department of health and Human Services website regarding the current advice around Covid-19. I have also included the DHHS advice for reducing your risk of Covid-19
https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/victorian-public-coronavirus-disease-covid-19
Ten ways to reduce your risk of coronavirus
Wash hands often with soap and running water, for at least 20 seconds. Dry with paper towel or hand dryer.
Try not to touch your eyes, nose or mouth.
Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. If you don’t have a tissue cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or elbow.
Isolate yourself at home if you feel sick. If you take medication ensure you have adequate supplies.
Phone your GP first if you need medical attention. They will tell you what to do.

POSITIVE PROMOTION OF BEHAVIOUR
The Five Finger Strategy is taught in every class throughout Term 1 of each year, as a strategy towards
whole school conflict prevention whilst giving students a positive voice to resolve issues. When conflict
arises between students we asked them how they used the Five Finger Strategy and the positives around
resolving the problem. It would be great if parents could have a chat with their children about the use of the
strategy to reinforce our school practices.
1. Ignore
2. Say ‘Stop’ politely and in a nice manner
3. Say STOP
4. Move away
5. Tell the teacher
ATTENDANCE
We value good attendance at Eaglehawk North Primary School. Research shows that success at school and
regular attendance both go hand in hand. We even
award classes with the highest attendance for the month
with a certificate called the Attender Chicken Award.
Miss Hommelhoff has a whole room full of Prep
students who have a very high rate of being at school.
Her grade is the winner for February and get to keep
our Attender Chicken mascot in their room for the
month.
Congratulations Prep H!
Continue healthy habits: exercise, drink water, get plenty of sleep, and now is the time to quit smoking. Call the Quitline 137 848.
Don't wear a face mask if you are well.
Buy an alcohol-based hand sanitiser with over 60 per cent alcohol.
Get the flu shot (available April).
Shaking hands is optional!

Grade 5-6 News Reading
We are learning to identify the arguments for and against a topic in a discussion text and the supporting evidence and classify them as positive or negative. This week we have read about Social Media in the classroom, sparking some very interesting discussions amongst students and staff. View the article here: https://elearningindustry.com/social-media-in-education-improve-learning Congratulations to those students who have reached and passed 25 nights of reading. Awards have been
given out at 5/6 Activities time and sent home.

In Applied Maths, students have begun to classify Shapes. Students can
practice skills learned in class time on Mathletics at home. Log-in names

during class times.

EXTRA SUPPORT AND ASSISTANCE FOR OUR WELFARE PROGRAM
ENPS has a school Chaplain that supports the wellbeing of our students
and school community on a Monday and Tuesday. Wendy Kofoed works
alongside our staff and students in a variety of ways to support our welfare
program. She meets families and students on an individual basis, runs our
vegetable garden program, lunchtime craft activities and generally
provides counselling and guidance for those in need. We are fortunate to
have Wendy via funding from the National School Chaplaincy
Programme.
If you would like either yourself or your child to chat with Wendy, we
have a consent form available at the main office.

Grade 3-4 News Home Reading
This year we are encouraging all students to achieve 200 nights of reading. It is important that your child
sits down each night for 10 -15 minutes to do some reading. Students can write their books into the diary
and sign themselves or someone can sign for them. We are encouraging children to become more
independent with their reading and to take more responsibility for their own learning.
We will be starting a reading club for students who have not been able to read at home. This will take place
during lunch eating time so students are not missing out on play. We are encouraging all students to get on
board with reaching 200 nights reading.
Literacy
In literacy we are continuing to work on developing students comprehension skills through questioning. We
are learning to write procedures and have identified all the key parts of a procedure. Students are writing up
experiments and their findings.
Maths
In maths we are continuing to work on place value, measurement and mental
maths.
Integrated Studies
Over the next 4 weeks we are
working on a science unit called
“Melting Moments” students will
be conducting experiments and
writing their findings.

OSHC at Eaglehawk North
Here at Eaglehawk North Primary Camp Aus, we try to explore and create as many different foods, reci-
pes and favourites of the children chosen from our cookbook. One of most popular recipe is our banana
bread or muffins. Here’s the recipe for you to take home and try.
INGREDIENTS
3 medium ripe bananas - mashed
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup cooking oil
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/4-1 cup brown sugar
1 1/4 cups flour
1/2 cup quick cooking oats
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Method
Preheat oven to 350°F / 175°C. Line or lightly grease a standard 12-hole muffin tin or loaf tin
In a medium bowl, mix together the mashed bananas, milk, cooking oil, vanilla extract and brown sugar.
In a separate large bowl, whisk together the flour, oats, baking powder, baking soda and cinnamon.
Add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix together until just combined.
Divide batter evenly among the muffin cups or pour into loaf tin.
Bake muffins, until a tester inserted into the centre comes out clean, 25–30 minutes.
Cool then ENJOY!
