It was back in thelate 1940�s whenCharles F. White beganwhat was a later tobecome known asWhite Bag Company.In 1948, while Whitewas a partner andmanager of a TexacoService Station inBenton, Arkansas, hebegan with a pickuptruck gatheringburlap bags fromdairy owners, feedestablishments andfield workers. Asthese bags wereaccumulated, theywere sold to processors.These processors wouldvacuum clean ,separate, grade, mendand package them forresale to millingcompanies among

others.It was in 1951 that

White began his

processing facilityknown as White BagCompany. Thisoperation began withtwo employees byconverting an old 30 x40 foot barn into astorage and working

area. It was located inthe Geyer Springs areaof southwestern LittleRock. Eventually,additional space wasadded to the existingstructure making itpossible to add threemore employees.During this time,White personallypicked up rawmaterials anddelivered the finishedproduct to customers,along with workinginside the plant anyhours that were leftover from a 24 hour

day.It was in 1958 that

White moved theoperation to NorthLittle Rock, leasing aframe structurebuilding on East

Washington Avenue.This expansion allowedfor more employeesand equipment to bebrought into action.The increase inproductivityquickly overtookthe price of theexpansion andoverhead. A fullservice bagclosing shop wasadded to theoperation for therepairing andselling of bagclosingequipment to thefeed millingestablishments.This growthcaused thebusiness to beincorporated in 1962 asWhite Bag Company,Inc.

In 1964, firedestroyed the entireoperation. This caused

the company to relocatein Jacksonville,Arkansas. Acquiring30,000 square feet ofindustrial/warehousespace, White Bag

Company began itstransition tobecoming a verycompetitivemanufacturingcorporation. By 1972,

Charles White hadintroduced two newlines of manufacturedtextile bags, burlap andwoven polypropylene.Burlap is a natural

fabric producedfrom jute, which isimported mainlyfrom Bangladeshand Calcutta. Wovenpolypropylene is asynthetic fiberproduced frombyproducts of thepetroleum industry.This product camein the early seventiesas a domesticproduct, later to beproduced mainly byforeign countries.

Danny White

Historically, the burlap bag was mainly used as a 100 pound container, aswas woven polypropylene when it first came into existence. There has beena transition to 50 pound containers beginning in the mid 1970s, with papertaking the lead. Burlap being a natural fabric, even though considerablyhigher in cost, has maintained a position in the market place for certain

applications. Polypropylene, unlike burlap, is asynthetic material produced worldwide by thepetroleum industry. It is now being producedand manufactured into a finished item by manyforeign countries. This lead White BagCompany to become a distributor and broker ofthese items, cutting costs and further establishingits position as a very competitive bag companyfor its clients. The leading sales item for WhiteBag Company would be paper, with wovenpolypropylene coming in a close second.In 1994 the company purchased a building with

over 42,000 square feet, located at 8027 Highway 161 North in North LittleRock. This well-kept facility is a modern industrialcomplex that distributes more than 30 million bagsannually. This beautiful office and productionfacility is the workplace of White Bag Company�semployees, the finest and hardest working team of

skilled labor found in Arkansas.White overlooks and assists his

son, Danny, President of WhiteBag Company, with day to dayoperations. Mary Penny, who�sbeginning with White BagCompany dates back to 1977, is
