You will learn a little about Melville Dewey and lots about the Dewey Decimal System.

Who was Melville Dewey?Melville Dewey was a teacher and a great
librarian.While he was in college in 1876, he created
the Dewey Decimal System that we use today.
What’s the Dewey Decimal System?The Dewey Decimal System is way that we
organize our books.There are 10 main categories or what we call
classes.
The Ten Main Classes000 Computer Science, Information & General Works100 Philosophy and Psychology200 Religion300 Social Sciences400 Language500 Natural Science and Math600 Applied Science and Technology700 Fine Arts and Recreation800 Literature900History and Geography
000General WorksThis class is used to classify things like
encyclopedias, newspapers and magazines.It can also be used to classify Computer Science
and Library Stuff.Here are some familiar titles that would be in the
General Works area:
100Philosophy and PsychologyIn this section we shelve some really neat books especially for
those of you interested in learning about humankind and things like love and memory and dreams!
Many of you may go on to be psychologists or counselors. If that’s you, then you will find all sorts of interesting books here.
