Parliament’s advantages
• The City of London remained on the side of Parliament throughout. London was the richest city and most important port in the land.
• The south of England was mainly for Parliament. The South had the largest population and the other major ports. The navy stayed loyal to Parliament.
• The areas which supported the king were poorer and had smaller populations.
