Over fifty million acres of tropical rain forest are destroyed every year, enough trees to fill all of England and Scotland combined.

Higher temperatures are melting glaciers and polar ice, altering arctic and Antarctic habitats and further endangering species like the polar bear, walrus, whales, coral reefs, migrating birds, nearly all forms of life, as well as adding to sea level rise.

Concept of Green LivingConcept of Green LivingThe concept of going green has been

popular since the 60's but Muslims have been green for over 1400 years. Going green is not a fad in Islam but its part of our Amaanah (responsibility).

Being green a mindset that you need to develop. By making small changes in your lifestyle you can truly make a lasting difference and put money BACK in your wallet.

The Islamic sources on the The Islamic sources on the preservation of the preservation of the environmentenvironment

There is ample evidence in the Quran - over 700 verses that relate humans to their environment.

The Prophet Muhammad was reported to care for all the creation of God. The Qur'an quotes that he was sent only as a mercy to all the universe (not just mankind)

What is Green What is Green Deen?Deen?

A "Green Deen" is the choice to practice your religion while affirming the synergies between faith and the environment.

Environmentalism fits into the goals and ethics of Islam

Quran says:Quran says:

“He has raised the heaven on high and created the balance: don’t ever tamper with this balance… He laid out the earth for His creatures, with all its fruits and palms having sheathed clusters, and grain with husk and scented herbs.”

Ar-Rahman 55:[7-12]

Page 16: Why green deen day

More Ayats:More Ayats:The word “Earth” (ard) appears no less than

485 times in the holy book of the Quran. The men and women are described as Allah’s vicegerents on Earth.

“Lo! We offered the trust upon the heavens and the earth and the hills, but they shrank from bearing it and were afraid of it and man assumed it” (Quran: 33:72).

By this act of acceptance, humans have accepted the responsibility for the custody of the environment. This trusteeship is seen by Islam to be so onerous and burdensome that no other creature would ‘accept’ it.

Climate change and MuslimsClimate change and Muslims

“For Muslims who derive their value system from the Quran and traditions of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh), climate change should be a priority of high importance along with social justice and fighting illiteracy, poverty, and disease”

Islamic teachings Islamic teachings  Islamic teachings provide an ethical

worldview of Nature and extends an invitation to believers and non-believers alike to reflect on natural phenomena, and to safeguard natural elements as an invaluable trust so that they may avoid disturbing the inherent balanced state of the planet.

Page 19: Why green deen day

This life is a trust upon us and we will be accountable to Allah (swt) as to how we live and the impact of our life on others, not just human, animals included, our environment and all the resources at our disposal which are all created by Allah (swt) with us as Trustees over them.

Page 20: Why green deen day

That comfortable life will not last forever and doing something now can save us

generations to come from the catastrophic effects of global warming resulting from

our

“so comfortable lifestyle”.

Page 21: Why green deen day

Is Going Green a lifestyle? Is Going Green a lifestyle?

Going green is not just a “lifestyle” issue or a “trend” to follow

but a responsibility that we owe in preserving

our World and discharging our Trust to Allah (swt).
