My name is William and I am a vegan. I have been vegan for nearly 8 years

and have never felt better. Now I will show you why I chose to be vegan for life.

Page 3: Why Veganism?

Here are my main points: What is veganism? Myths about Veganism Animal cruelty in the industry and how

veganism prevents it Environment devastation from factory

farms Obesity and severe health problems

related to eating animal products Why a vegan diet is awesome, and easy

What is Veganism?

Vegan’s adhere to a plant based diet. We refrain from all animal based

products and by-products. No meat, dairy, eggs, fur, leather or fish.

Some myths about Veganism. Myth: Vegan Diets are unhealthy

Fact: In many studies, vegans have shown lower cholesterol, BMI, and triglyceride levels than omnivores.

Myth: Vegans don’t get enough protein. Fact: Protein is not just available in meat, it is

available in dozens of natural things like soy, mushrooms, wheat, quinoa, couscous, kale, avocado, beans, nuts and many others.

Fact: The average protein intake of a vegan is 73 grams a day, while the average for what is needed is only 56-70 grams a day.

Factory Farms

Relying on animals today for food and recourses has changed considerably since older times. Animals aren’t home grown on the local farms anymore . Now, tens of billions of animals are processed through “factory farms” to support a massive civilian population and to maximize profits for these corporations.

Impact on the Animals

They are fed huge amounts of bovine growth hormones to make them grow faster and larger than normal. This causes there body mass to be significantly more than what their skeletal structure can handle, in turn causing a lot of pain and discomfort.

Antibiotics are also used to prevent sickness and infection because they are forced to live in disgusting disease ridden conditions. Dairy cows often get mastitis which is a puss filled infection in their utter caused by over milking.

Instead of being fed grain and grass, they are often fed mixed versions of corn and soy filled with hormones because it is cheaper than giving these animals their natural diet.

Page 8: Why Veganism?

Housing a million animals in one location takes up space, so the animal spends it’s whole life crammed in a gestation crate which prevents the animal from turning around, stretching it’s limbs or even moving about.

Not only are these things immoral, the animals are not healthy enough for humans to consume, and the effect that these massive “factory farms” have on our environment is devastating.

Page 9: Why Veganism?

Impact on the Environment Factory farms account for more pollution and green house gases than

any other contributor. Factory farming accounts for 37 percent of methane (CH4)

emissions. Methane has more than 20 times the global warming potential than CO2.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) estimates that confined animals generate three times more raw waste than humans in the United States.

The use of fossil fuels on farms to grow feed and to intensively raise land animals for food emits 90 million tons of CO2 worldwide every year.

The waste lagoons on Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs) not only pollute our groundwater, but deplete it as well. Many of the farms use the groundwater for cleaning, cooling, and drinking.

Red Meat’s Impact on your health.

Numerous studies nationwide have found that eating red meat dramatically increases your risk of developing heart disease or cancer. WebMD states:

”The answer is pretty clear: Red meats are high in saturated fat, which raises blood cholesterol. High levels of LDL cholesterol increase the risk of heart disease.”

“Those who ate about 4 ounces of red meat a day were more likely to die of cancer or heart disease than those who ate very little or no red meat.”

Dairy's Impact on Your HealthAccording to Dr Willett, who has studied research from the USDA and FTC, there are several health impacts it causes.

Dairy intake causes prostate cancer, and breast cancer.

It is filled with saturated fat and also linked to heart disease.

Dairy causes digestive problems to 75 % of the population which is linked to lactose intolerance.

It has also been linked to type I Diabetes

Page 15: Why Veganism?

The Truth About Dairy Dairy is not continuously produced by cows. They

need to be impregnated like any other mammal in the world. Their babies are instantly taken away after birth, and the cow is then forcibly milked until it can’t produce.

A lot of people don’t realize that they are the only species in the world that drink milk after infancy, let alone not even from their our own species.

The hormones crammed in the dairy supply has been linked to growth issues across America. Children are going through premature puberty and our nations obesity rate is increasing dramatically.

Page 16: Why Veganism?

Veganism is awesome! By not supporting the animal industry it is said that a vegan

diet saves 99 animals a year. In the last 2 years, the number of vegans in America has

doubled. At this rate more than 10% of the US population will be vegan by 2015. More and more people are seeing the benefits.

By eating vegan, you are not supporting the animal industries destruction of the environment.

Many different companies make meat and dairy substitutes found in most grocery stores. More and more restaurants maintain vegan and vegetarian options on their menus.

Veganism doesn’t just benefit you as an individual, it saves animals lives and helps reduce the destruction to our environment.

Animals are sentient beings. Just like any beloved dog or cat we love and

cherish, “livestock” animals are just as capable. They have personality, show emotion and they can also feel pain and devastation as we do.

"The time will come when men such as I will look upon the murder of animals as they now look upon the murder of men.“ –Leonardo DaVinci
