Edward Anderson, Jr. My name is Edward Anderson, Jr. I have been a long time resident of Wild Acres and I am interested in running for a seat on the Board of Directors. I have an extensive background in the transportation industry with plumbing as a secondary occupation. With my knowledge and experience I could bring a lot to the table. I believe Wild Acres needs a change and now is the time to do it. As many of you know, my father and I have worked for Wild Acres in the past. I have inside knowledge of how things are run and how things can be improved. My ideas while employed with Wild Acres have fallen on deaf ears but I feel if I could get a seat on the board I could bring these ideas to fruition. My main interest for running for the board would be to better the community in particular the maintenance department. Drive around and please let me know what you think Wild Acres needs. Sincerely, Edward Anderson

Ed BanzINCUMBENT Hello! My name is Ed Banz and I would like to be on the ballot for a Board of Director position in the June 2017 Election. My family and I have been property owners since 1993 and full-time residents since 1997. I am currently a WALPOA Board Member so I appreciate the commitment required to serve. I have been on the Board 10 of the last sixteen years. During my time on the Board I have served as a Co-Chair of the Environmental & Architectural, Beautification, Communication, Rules & Regulations and By-Laws Committees as well as serving as a Director, Board Secretary and Chairman in a continuing effort to serve my community. In addition I have attended almost all of the WALPOA events including 9/11 and Veteran’s Day Memorial Ceremonies as well the holiday parties in support of our community. As a believer in term limits, should I be fortunate enough to gain re-election, this would be my second consecutive term and my last for at least one cycle. As a result of my professional career and experience on the Board, I feel I can bring knowledge which would be of great value to the Board and WALPOA to help address the issues facing our community going forward such as preserving our amenities, maintaining our quality of life and continuing to create an environment we can all be proud of. Thank you and I look forward to serving our community! Respectfully Submitted, Ed Banz

Phyllis ChekenianTo Members and Residents of Wild Acres: My name is Phyllis Chekenian and I am seeking a seat on the Wild Acres Board of Directors. I have lived in the community for six years now and have regularly attended our Board and members meetings. I feel that I am now ready and able to contribute to the workings of our community. I presently serve as secretary of our Delaware Township Volunteer Ambulance Corps and have been involved in decision making and assisting in fund raising activities and enjoy working as a team member. I have also owned and operated a family business and am experienced in dealing with the public. I consider myself to be a creative, forward thinker and feel I would be an asset to the Board. You will find me to be honest, forthright and not shy about expressing my opinion as well as listening to the viewpoint of each individual member. If given the opportunity to serve, I will always do my best to keep the collective good of our community in mind and strive to help improve, strengthen and ensure its success. Thanks for listening and your vote will be appreciated. Respectfully, Phyllis Chekenian

Trish DornerINCUMBENT My name is Trish Dorner and I would like to be elected to one of the open seats on the Board. I currently hold a position on the board after being appointed. As you may know, I have been an active participant in Wild Acres for many years. Along with raising my children here, I have been on numerous committees, both serving on the committee as well as chairing the committee. These committees include the Nominations/Election Committee, Rules and Regulations, By Laws, Budget & Finance, Capital/Maintenance, Environmental, Recreation and the Hearing Board. I feel that my participation in these committees has given me knowledge about how Wild Acres runs and feel with that knowledge; I can be a positive influence on the future of our community. In addition to being involved in Wild Acres, I was employed by Delaware Township, from which I can bring my wealth of information about municipal laws and policies. I have also sat on several other boards, including Delaware Township Ambulance (Secretary), Dingman Delaware Primary School PTA (President, Vice President) and Dingman Delaware Elementary School PTA (2nd VP) and the Delaware Township Library (Treasurer.) From serving these various positions, I am aware of the commitment involved and am willing and able to accept these responsibilities. If elected, please be assured I will keep an open mind and take all opinions into consideration for the best interest of our community. I look forward to serving my fellow residents and hear your ideas and concerns. Sincerely, Trish Dorner

Elaine FulgieriINCUMBENT I would like to introduce myself; my name is Elaine Fulgieri. I have served on the Board of Directors since November 2015. I am now running for re-election for a seat on the 2017 Board. My husband and I have been homeowners in Wild Acres for 12 years and are living here full time for 10 years. Before my retirement, I was an Office Manager dealing with labor unions, payroll, and organization skills and dealing with many different personalities. I’ve been active for many years on several of the Wild Acres committees such as Budget & Finance, Rules & Regulations, By-Laws, Recreation and Beautification. I have also given my time volunteering on events such as the Halloween Party, Holiday Home Decorating Contest, and Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. I believe I would continue to be an asset sitting on the B.O.D using my management skills and knowledge of working with different committees. I will strive to do my best to represent this Community. I am proud to live in Wild Acres and interested in working to help keep this a prosperous and beautiful community. Sincerely, Elaine Fulgieri

Bernice JalaMy Dear Members, As many of you know, I have been an active member of Wild Acres since 1999. I knew when we moved here that I wanted to retire here, so I immediately joined several committees and was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2002 and was elected in 2003 until 2010 then after a brief time, was re-elected and served until 2013. I have been chair and/or co-chair for both the Communication and Beautification Committees since 2000 until present. Being on these committees has given me the opportunity to host many events such as Veterans Day, Dog Show, Christmas Decorating Contest and the very special Memorial Day Ceremony honoring all of our veterans and those who serve to keep us safe, and in September the remembrance ceremony paying tribute to the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks on our nation. Through the Communication Committee I have had the opportunity to help to make Wild Acres World change from a simple newsletter to the informative paper it is today. I will always seek new ways to improve Wild Acres World in every way possible to connect with our members. Finally, I would like to say that I truly love living in Wild Acres. Its members need to be heard and its beauty needs to be protected. I promise you that I will continue to serve Wild Acres in the most honest and honorable way possible. Sincerely, Bernice Jala

Joseph JalaINCUMBENTDear Members, As a committed member of your BOD I have dedicated myself to the betterment of our community. I have always worked for the welfare of WALPOA and will continue to do my best to protect it and keep its members best interest at heart. I have always kept family and community values as a top priority. Keeping these standards in mind, I have reached outside of Wild Acres and met with other communities for new and fresh ideas to keep our community up to date with the ever changing times. I have attended many seminars in surrounding communities in Pike & Monroe Counties concerning issues such as security (gangs, drugs etc.), environment, governmental structure and general maintenance. I make a point of attending our By-laws, Budget & Finance, Rules and Regulation, Beautification, Co-Chair Communication Committee and am currently Chairman of the Capital Maintenance Committee. Working closely with the Beautification Committee since moving here in 1999, I have been an active participant in the Memorial Day Ceremony, Planting Day, Dog Show, Christmas Decorating Contest and 911 Memorial Service. If elected, I will continue to dedicate myself to making our members proud to call Wild Acres home. If our community has a need, I will always be there for the best interest of you, the members of Wild Acres. Sincerely, Joseph Jala

Floyd LeeINCUMBENT Hello; my name is Floyd Lee. I am a full time resident of WALPOA for the past 13 years. I am a current board member. I have always kept what is in the best interest of WALPOA as priority #1. I am uniquely qualified to be a board member because I am a problem solver, and forward thinker, which I think Wild Acres could use to their advantage to help grow and prosper.

Felix ReyINCUMBENT I am seeking re-election for the Board of Directors. As a full time resident since 1989, I have had the opportunity to serve the community before as chairman of the Security Committee, a member of the Board of Directors in 1991, 2007-2013, current president of the Board, and co-chairman and member of the Hearing Board until it was disbanded. I am seeking re-election on the board because I feel the membership needs to be represented more on the important issues. In my opinion, the board needs the input of the membership on the crucial decisions they make on behalf of the community; there needs to be someone who can be held responsible and who will be truthful to the membership. Let’s stop being penny-wise and dollar-foolish. I ask for your support and vote in the upcoming elections. Thank you! Felix Rey

Debra SibirtzeffINCUMBENTDear WALPOA Community; My name is Debra Sibirtzeff, I am an active community member with a background in process improvements and would love the chance to give back by lending my advisory skills to WALPOA by serving on the Board. By profession I work in Process Improvements for clients and internal departments on an individual basis to explore gaps in processes and to work toward achieving new standards to stay Federal and State compliant. I have a strong background in leadership guidance and possess a broad range of counseling skills. In addition one of my areas of expertise is in counseling executive leadership on new opportunities on quality of standards. With this background and knowledge I believe I would serve as an excellent adviser and Board Member to WALPOA Community. I would be thrilled to have the opportunity to serve on the board and put my knowledge to use. I am confident you’ll find me a good fit for your needs as a Board Member to the WALPOA Community. Looking forward to your vote in June. Warmest Regards, Debra Sibirtzeff

Bob TracyINCUMBENT My name is Bob Tracy and I am seeking your vote in the June election. I am currently serving on the Board of Directors. I have been a full time resident since 2004. My daughter and I have grown to love this community and the people in it. I have been involved in numerous organizations while raising my daughter such as; Wild Acres Swim Team, PTA, Knights of Columbus, and Girl Scouts as well as numerous committees. I am able to put the time and effort in being a board member. I have the best intentions in making Wild Acres the best community in the Poconos. I would like to see more recreational activities for all ages, the roads to be properly maintained, and cut unnecessary spending and work within our budget. Let’s make Wild Acres great again!!!! Thank you, Bob Tracy

Recreation Report Hello everyone, my name is Galina and I am the new Recreation Director for Wild Acres. The Easter Brunch was my first event for Wild Acres. I worked hard to make this event special! There were 45 adults and 53 children in atten-dance to see the Easter Bunny, and the event was a success. The children had a great time hunting for Easter eggs. Two lucky boys found the eggs with the gold coin and won an Easter basket. I’d like to give a very big thank you to Joyce Snadecky, Elizabeth Cook, Kathy & Edward Banz, Janet Fortsch, Joe Jala, Elaine & Phil Fulgieri who helped with the event. I also want to extend thanks to our volunteers: Sam Grishin, Adam Apostol, and Vikky Polyak, you all did a great job! I am looking forward to the warm weather and planning lots of summer activities. Our Annual Memorial Day Picnic is on May 27th starting at 10:00 am. Pool 2 and North Lake will be open on Memorial Day weekend. We are now accepting applications for Kids Kamp and other summer jobs. For more information, please contact the Administration office. Let’s have a great summer, everyone!

Please Do Not Feed Wild

Animals! Why? Primarily, because you create an unnatural dependency on your part for their supply of food. If that is interrupted, you (and they) can be in trouble. Bears especially can be a problem. Once a bear learns food is available at a certain location he/she will aggres-sively pursue it. If it is not at the usual site, they have been known to destroy screened porches trying to find where “their” food is. Encouraging them to eat from your hand (or even close to you) is like playing Russian roulette. You have no way of knowing what noise or scent or action will cause a bear to feel threat-ened and react violently. Can you or your child out-wrestle 400 pounds of bear with 2” claws? Wild animals are just that - wild - and should be observed from a respectable distance. If you put food out to attract birds, it is best to find a way to hang the feeder at least six feet in the air to prevent the bears from taking it.

Memorial Day Ceremony and Annual PicnicSaturday, May 27, 2017Starting at 10:00 AM The Beautification Committee invites you to join us in paying tribute to all of the men and women who have served and are currently serving to keep Amer-ica free. Many lost their lives or were permanently disabled fighting for the freedom we enjoy today. We must ever be thankful for these brave individuals who sacrificed so much to protect the constitutional rights and privileges that we as a nation hold so dear. They all deserve to be remembered at this very special ceremony, so please mark your calendar. The ceremony will be held at 10:00am followed by the Annual Picnic at 11:00 in Memorial Park (in the event of rain we will hold it at the clubhouse). Members must stop by the office with amenity badges to pick up tickets for food and drinks. Adults will receive 4 tickets per person, children 12 under will receive 3 tickets. If you have any questions, ideas or would like to speak at the ceremony, please call Ber-nice Jala at 570-828-6686.

I Addle - Do You?from the Environmental & Architectural Committee If it bothers you that walking through our grassy areas is akin to negotiat-ing a mine field, due to the gifts left by our Canada goose population, there is something you can do about it. Each year WALPOA obtains a permit from the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service to conduct specific migratory bird depredation management activities. These activities involve touring the shoreline of our lakes to identify and control nesting. This begins roughly around mid April and ends when hatching begins, usually around Mother’s Day in this area. The problem is that the window of opportunity is short as is the manpower to perform these activities. In addition to being an annoyance, the large Canada goose population costs the association money to repair the damage they cause. One example being the high bacteria count that caused the temporary closing of some of our lakes in past summers was in part due to the goose droppings. If you walk the shoreline, live on a lake, swim in the water or eat the fish and are interested in helping the community keep our lakes clean, grassy areas pris-tine and reducing a health hazard, please consider volunteering to take part in the depredation management activities. There will be a one hour training session sometime late April for those interested in preserving your lakes and common areas. To volunteer please leave your contact information at the WALPOA office and the Environmental Committee will contact you. For information on egg treatment techniques authorized by the Depredation Order please visit Environmental News section of (http://wildacreslakes.org/committees.html) and read the articles titled “Managing Canadian Geese” and

“Management of Canadian Goose Nest-ing”

From Water Pollution Solutions:“... They have been known to eat turf grass down to a nub and then leave uncountable piles of slimy green drop-pings. And, they can contribute to the spread of water-borne diseases, such as giardia and crypto-sporsis, which have the potential to affect humans”.*

*Water Pollution Solutions is a series of publications produced by the Pennsylvania Association of Conservation Districts, Inc. with funding providing by the Pennsyl-vania Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Watershed Management and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Section 319 Program.

cheese, prepared horseradish, and cocktail sauce. Puree until completely smooth, taste and adjust seasoning with salt and freshly ground pepper. Add the remaining shrimp and pulse until chopped. Transfer dip into a serving bowl and garnish with chopped chives. Serve with butter crackers.

Recipe Corner has gone to the dogs! Here is a special recipe given to us by Kathy Banz for your “best friend.” After all he or she is part of the family and wants to enjoy your Memorial Day get together too.

Gluten-Free Peanut Butter and Pumpkin Dog Treats 3 cups gluten-free flour 1 tsp ground cinnamon 2 eggs 1/4 cup peanut butter (I process my own with no salt or sugar-just peanuts) 1 15-oz. can pure pumpkin Optional: 1/8 cup mint

DIRECTIONS:• Preheat oven to 350* • In large bowl mix all ingredients to form a soft dough.• Divide dough in half and roll out the first half while refrigerating the second,

using plenty of gluten-free flour on your rolling pin and surface. The dough starts out sticky, but gets dry with multiple roll outs. Cut into shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheet.

• Bake 35-40 minutes or until dried out and golden brown. Let cool 1 minute and place on rack until cooled completely.

• Store at room temperature for 1 week or in the refrigerator or freezer for longer.

Our special BBQ cocktail – the Margarita!INGREDIENTS: 1 1/2 oz. silver tequila 1 oz. Cointreau 1/2 oz. fresh lime juice splash simple syrup

Combine all ingredients in an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake until cold and strain into a chilled salt-rimmed glass.

If any of our members have a special recipe they would like to place in Recipe Corner, please feel free to call Bernice at 828-6686 or drop it off at the office.
