Genre• Wildebeest is a computer animation short film by Birdbox Studios. The

film has a comedic theme which is through it’s ironic ending with one of the Wildebeest’s getting eaten by the crocodile which he believed was a log. The film has the moral lesson encoded into it not to risk endangering yourself to prove yourself right. Media Language• Wildebeest consists of only one shot throughout. However, there is some

camera movement as the camera slowly zooms in closer to the two characters. At the end of the short film is the only time that the camera pans to the right, introducing another character who is only on screen very briefly. The film only includes diegetic sound and has no speech from any of the characters.

Narrative:

• The storyline in Wildebeest is about two wild wildebeest (hence the name) standing by a watering whole. A strange object is lying in the water and both wildebeests are arguing about what it could be. One thinks it’s a crocodile where as the other animal reckons it’s a log. They bicker between themselves for the majority of the video, till it gets to the point where one of the wildebeest jumps on it to prove that it’s right. The object being a crocodile, means that this action results in one of the creature being eaten.

• The narrative for this short film isn’t in a great amount of detail but is very clear.• The story follows a single strand narrative and has an open ending.

Describing the Film in 100 Words:

• “The film sees a couple of wildebeest contemplating crossing a river. An object is floating in the water ahead of them. A log? Or a crocodile? The story is about the lengths some people will go to to prove their point. The film is animated in Flash and AfterEffects. The main aim was to be funny. The secondary aim was to develop a style I hadn’t tried before”
