The Wildhorse HOA Board of Directors would like to thank Summer Manchester for her outstanding community service this past year. Summer served on the board from December 2012 to August 2013 and was not able to continue the remainder of her term. While she was on the HOA Board of Directors, she worked parallel with other Board members serving the community faithfully by providing HOA duties and helping with special projects. A few of those projects were managing the research and much of the footwork for the new shade structures at both community pools and working with a group of volunteers to organize and hold the Wildhorse Community's successful National Night Out event held at the Sports Park this past October. If you had the opportunity to attend the NNO event, you would agree it was very successful. If you happen to see her out and about within our community, don't forget to thank her for making a difference in our neighborhood. Thank you for serving our community, Summer!

FarewellSummer Manchester The Social Committee hosted the third annual Wildhorse Halloween Festival and

Trunk or Treat, and it was a huge success. Approximately 500 people turned out for the event. Families enjoyed several stations including a Bean Bag Toss, Haunted Hall, Pumpkin Painting, and Cupcake Walk and of course, the hugely popular Trunk or Treat that had approximately 15 residents who decked out their vehicles for the event. Families also enjoyed delicious treats including hot dogs, nachos, popcorn and Kona Ice snow cones. The children of our neighborhood loved the evening spent at the Sports Park with their friends and had a great time. A fun time was enjoyed by all!

In addition to all the festivities, we had a costume contest and a contest for the best Trunk or Treat vehicle. The Social Committee recruited two independent residents who had no connection with the contests to act as judges to determine the best boy costume, best girl costume and best decorated vehicle! Our best boy costume went to Clark Kent and the best girl costume

went to Zombie Bride pictured below. The trunk or treat winners were the Schweisfurth Family and Girl Scout Troop number 291.

Thank you to all of the volunteers who gave their time to this event. We especially want to thank the volunteers who donated their time in setting up, cleaning up, baking, staffing stations and decorating their vehicles. We also want to thank DR Horton for donating the bottled water for the event. We appreciated our great vendors Kona Ice and Roger Campos, who served as our great DJ! It would not have been a success without you and all your hard work. We look forward to another successful event next year!

Roxanne and her husband have lived in the Wildhorse community since 2008, and recently welcomed their first born this past May. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance and a Master’s degree in Accounting. Her current work experience is in employer and employee taxation ranging from withholding to corporate. As part of the Board of Directors, she will continuously strive for improvements and beautification of this great community. She is looking forward to the opportunities of being a part of the volunteerism team in Wildhorse. Welcome, Roxanne!

Despite of the showers the morning of the Wildhorse Stampede Fun/Run which posed an extra challenge for our volunteers, it did not stop the fun or the run on the scheduled day. Over 120 runners signed up and most hit the pavement Saturday, November 9th for the early morning race. This race marked the fifth year the Recreation Committee has organized this event and the spirit of the volunteers showed no signs of waning. Runners took home commemorative t-shirts, pens, and bags which will serve as reminders that health and wellness are alive here in Wildhorse.

The Recreation committee would like to thank all the runners, sponsors, spectators, and volunteers who made this event such a success. We thank the following sponsors: RCB construction, Soler Tri-Sports, Krueger Elementary, and the Wildhorse Cyclones Swim Team. Special thanks to the District 7 firefighters for providing EMS and logistical services during the race.

All those who crossed the finish line won by any standard but the top finishers included:

The Wildhorse Recreation Committee hosted the Fifth Annual Movie Night under the stars on Saturday, November 2nd with the showing of ParaNorman. There were estimates of nearly 200 people attending the event despite

the inclement weather. Those who braved the chilly night enjoyed fresh popcorn,

hot dogs, and hot chocolate with their movie. The Recreation

Committee would like to send a special

thank you to all who volunteered.

We could not have successfully ran this

TRAVELING WITH YOUR PET

OVER THE HOLIDAYS? Here are some tips that will help make your drive smooth sailing. Submitted by Kristen West, Owner of Gusto Dogs LLC.

1. Take your pet on short trips prior to the big day to let him get used to traveling by car.

2. Keep your pet safe in a secured, well-ventilated crate or carrier. It should be large enough for your pet to stand, sit, lie down and turn around. Letting him have free range in the car not only puts him at risk, but it also poses a risk to your family if you were to stop suddenly.

3. Never let your dog travel in the bed of a truck. Even if he is secured on a short line to prevent him falling or jumping out, your pet can experience discomfort from the weather and wind or sustain injury from debris.

4. Feed your pet three or four hours prior to departure and avoid giving him any food or treats in the car.

5. Never leave your pet in a parked vehicle, which can quickly become a furnace and cause heatstroke, even with open windows. In cold weather, the car holds the temperature like a refrigerator.

6. Your pet’s microchip should be up-to-date and he should be wearing a flat collar and ID at all times.

7. Bring a bowl and extra water in case you get stuck in the inevitable holiday traffic jam!

8. Take lots of breaks to let your pet stretch his legs and relieve himself. It’s a great excuse to do some sight-seeing or pick up a fun treat for yourself!

The Value of TimeTick, tock! Every day time reminds us just how valuable it

is. Some equate time to a monetary value, some just cannot seem to find an equivalent value for it and some take it for granted all together letting it slip through their very fingers. Regardless which one of the aforementioned categories you personally equate time with, it is important to realize there is value indeed with time.

Time is what makes our world go round. Each person certainly has their own important stance of their own personal time. So most can agree that time cannot be assigned with a dollar amount because once it is gone, it can never be taken back. There is no rewind button available to us to revert back to the past. I constantly remind myself of the importance of time – mine, as well as others’ who I come in contact with everyday.

In today’s digital age, we are constantly “on” and engage in the many devices readily available to us. Due to this very reason, we lose track of time easily. I know from experience that I do from time to time. It is really important to be cognizant of our time and for us to reflect on how well we are spending it. In my opinion, unplugging from the digital world could be liberating sometimes and frees us of the anxieties involved of not being constantly “connected.” It seems as if we are continually on the go, and have a minute to momentarily catch our breath only to go full speed again once we come up for air.

If your household is anything like ours, there are days when you feel like there is not enough time in the day to accomplish everything you have planned. The to-do list just seems to get longer. Then, mix in the time I lost as well sitting in traffic on highway 151 because some driver did not know how to merge properly! The backed up traffic then results in me reporting

untimely to work. You see what I mean about the value of time?! With the holidays upon us, realize time is a great commodity.

Take a deep breath and unwind as well as unplug. If you moms out there want to get a deep tissue massage, go for it. For the dads, go ahead and go golfing. Wives, if your husband possesses the urge to tinker in the garage, give him the liberty to do so.

That honey-do list could really wait. Husbands, if your wife needs you to watch the kids so she could go on a girls’ night out, coffee on a Saturday morning or get a manicure and pedicure, give her the freedom to do so. We all deserve a little break from the never ending job in our homes! Many things on our to-do list could really wait and do not seem to be going anywhere soon.

Take the time this holiday season to appreciate your loved ones and friends. We are never promised tomorrow so always appreciate the time with those you love, and let them take some of your "time" as a gift. While you are at it, take the time to make that phone call you have been meaning to make to a far away friend or family member. Take the time to say hello to your next door neighbor or take time

to simply smile at them. You may be surprised just how nice they are, and you may be missing out on a great friendship that has yet to develop.

As for me, I consciously remind myself of the importance of time and respect the value of it. I am looking forward to spending much needed time with my loved ones as well as friends this holiday season. Do not forget to make time for yourself as well. Practice spending your time wisely always. Time is precious and should be maximized as much as possible. Time, no matter how long or short, but well spent on the most important people in your life – priceless!
