Korean War Memorial ServiceGLENS FALLS – On Fri., July 27 there will be a Memorial service at 11am atthe Korean War Memorial in Crandall Park, Glens Falls (on Rt. 9). The service isbeing held to remember the Korean War (which is still on) and those who diedwhile fighting in Korea from the seven counties served by the Adirondack Chapter.On July 27,1953, the Cease Fire Armistice was signed at the 38th parallel. It wasnot a peace treaty, which means the War is not really over. There are still AmericanTroops serving in South Korea today. Members and friends of the AdirondackChapter and relatives of the "names" on the memorial stone are encouraged tocome to the service. Following the service the Chapter will go to have lunch atThe Log Jam Restaurant on Rt. 9 in Queensbury. Even though I haven’t seen any at my place, I’m hearing that the Japanese Beetles are starting to emerge from the soil to begin their feasting. In an artist’s eye, the Japanese Beetle could be considered an attractive specimen with its shiny, coppery-bronze wing covers and metallic-green highlights. Unfortunately, this color scheme isn’t attractive to birds or any other insect predators so, we’re left to battle these destructive, leaf eating beetles on our own. There are few things that can send gardeners into a state of insecticidal rage quicker that the sight of a group of Japanese Beetles chowing down the petals of a favorite rose bush or crop of beans.

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS TO LOCAL YOUTH
Glens Falls, NY (June 14, 2012): Hudson River Community Credit Union (HRCCU) is pleased to announce the winners of its 2012 College Scholarship and Making Life Better Scholarship contests. Each of the following student members will receive a $1,000 scholarship: Danielle Watkins, Corinth Central School, Brooke Meacham, schooled at home, Megan McWhorter, Argyle High School, Emily Korot, Queensbury High School, and Caitlyn Lemery, Hudson Falls High School. Danielle will also receive $1,000 for the Making Life Better Scholarship. Eligible candidates were required to be high school seniors planning to attend an accredited college or university in the Fall 2012 and be HRCCU members-in-good-standing. For the Col-lege Scholarship, applicants were judged on their academic performance, extracurricular and community activities, honors and awards, employment experience, length of HRCCU mem-bership and essay question. For the Making Life Better Scholarship, members were judged on their community service involvement and essay question. “HRCCU takes pride in investing in the education of our young members.” said Susan Com-manda, Chief Executive Officer. “These scholarship recipients will one day assume leadership roles and their work will benefit the entire community. Their success will be our success.” The HRCCU College Scholarship Program began in 1994 to promote and foster the educa-tional endeavors of the Credit Union’s young members.
