The Goldstream Nature House receives a tremendous amount of support from the local community. Through the Goldstream Chums program, over $14,000 was donated by local businesses and individuals to help bring school children to participate in the salmon run programs at Goldstream. We especially wish to acknowledge BC Hydro who sponsored $5000 in 2013 and has committed over 10 consecutive years to our Goldstream Chums Corporate Sponsorship Program - THANK YOU! Beyond these much needed financial contributions, the in-kind donations and support we received this year have been fantastic. Amazingly, after teaming up with Rob Bowen - Diversified Scientific Solutions, we now have two unique multimedia computer displays in the Nature House. Visitors can gain a more intimate appreciation for our ‘Birds of Prey’ and the ‘Life Cycle of the Pacific Salmon’. During the year other members of the community brought in an array of interesting nature artifacts; adding to our ‘things you may not be able to see out there’ approach to our displays, including a new ‘Day in the Life of a…’ computer program by Cynthia Furk. Also in the works is a unique collaboration with Central Middle School students who are working to help improve some of our nature displays in the Rathtrevor and Miracle Beach Nature Houses - stay tuned for this work in progress! From the donations at the door to the generous annual financial support from our corporate sponsors, we would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation. In light of the season just passed, here is a small tribute - On the 12th day of Christmas our Community gave to us, 12 loyal volunteers, 11 chatting eagles, 10 happy scavengers, 9 seasonal staff, 8 hundred visitors, 7 great new displays, 6 Vision 'Chum' sponsors, 5... hundred sale books, 4 gift card sales, 3 Builder 'Chums', 2 Leader 'Chums', and a BC Hydro sponsorship!
