Beginning leatherWorking Thursdays, February 27, March 6 and 13 6:00–8:00 p.m. Want to learn to craft functional objects in leather? in this class, students will learn how to design, cut, stamp, dye, antique, sew, and edge finish vegetable-tanned cowhide in the Sheridan style. demonstrations of both traditional and contemporary techniques will be followed by hands-on experimentation with the material. KEUM-BOO locket Tuesdays, January 28–February 25 6:00–8:00 p.m.This class is for the more advanced student who is comfortable building pieces with multiple solderings. We build a locket with a pivoting tube rivet hinge and finish the front with a flourish using texture and the ancient keum-boo technique of fusing high-carat gold to fine silver. Stone setting is optional. tuition (silver is additional): $95 ($80 member)

KEUM-BOO: one-daY WorkShop Sunday, February 9 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. learn the ancient technique of keum-boo, the fusing of gold to silver, and create a simple pendant and earrings. using precut disks and rectangles, participants will learn techniques to apply texture to silver and fuse high-carat gold to the silver to create a unique piece of wearable art that combines both metals.tuition (silver is additional): $60 ($50 member)

Spinning ring Tuesdays, March 4 and 11 6:00–8:00 p.m.This class is open to all levels. Students will learn to form a wide, concave ring shank over which they will design another textured ring that will sit inside and spin.tuition (silver is additional): $60 ($50 member)

chain Making: one-daY WorkShop Sunday March 9 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.This class is open to all levels. Participants will learn to wrap wire, cut coils, and solder jump rings to assemble a variety of chains—from simple designs for the beginner to more elaborate designs for the experienced. Students will complete one unique necklace or multiple sample pieces.tuition (silver is additional): $60 ($50 member)

Beginning MetalSMithingTuesdays, April 1–May 6 6:00–8:00 p.m.in this six-week course, beginning students will explore the fundamentals of metalsmithing, including sawing, filing, forging, texturing, and soldering. Each student will design and fabricate several jewelry projects. Practice metals are included in tuition. Experienced metalsmithers are welcome.tuition (silver is additional): $145 ($120 member)

an exploration in porcelain with Sandra BYerS Saturday and Sunday, April 26–27 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.Two-time Arts/industry resident and respected artist Sandra Byers (Wi) returns to the Arts Center for an exploration of porcelain. Participants will use pinching, hand-building, and carving techniques to create sculptural forms out of translucent, bright white porcelain from Australia.tuition: $150 ($130 member)
