(CAVIAT has a new Flagstaff Office in the CCC-4 th Street Campus.) FHS Welder wins Gold Medal- Jacob Morrison won the AZ State Welding Skills USA Competition. That is the first time FHS has had a gold medalist in this competition! Jacob and Mr. Rust will head to Nationals in June 21 st - 27 th in Kansas City, MO… Culinary Captures ProStart Title and Earns Scholarships…. Flagstaff High School culinary students seized the AZ State ProStart Championship title; they did well at ProStart Nationals in Anaheim, CA, and they also received top honors in the C-Cap (Careers through Culinary Arts Programs) Competition. Each of the competitors received scholarship monies to continue their culinary pursuits. Alejandro Ornejas earned a scholarship to the Scottsdale Culinary School. Delainey Rowland received the Raymond Foundation as well as for $5,000 to further her culinary education; Courtney Smithson received the Raymond Foundation Scholarship and a $4,000 scholarship for her culinary pursuits (..plus, she secured an internship with the Westin Resorts) and Fiona Nicholson won the prestigious Art Institute Scholarship worth $83,000. Culinary Captures ProStart Title and Earns

Scholarships…. Welcome Ms. Smith …… In the spring of 2015, Ms. Kayley Smith, a local Artist, joined our Flagstaff High School teaching staff. Students who take her classes will become skilled in the graphic arts and emergent media. Following the completion of her basic and advanced classes, students will design and produce print media through the FHS-Inked Up Internship. (Students can also earn dual enrollment credits through Ms. Smith’s classes!)

Dual Enrollment Helps FHS Students Transition to College… 382 FHS

students earned 1279 credits through Coconino Community College this past spring. Some of the credits earned were in core subjects like: Astronomy, English, U.S. History, Math, Navajo and Physics. Other credits earned were in: Autos, Business, Culinary (HRM), Digital Photography (ART) and Welding. Once a student is accepted into a Dual Enrolled course they have an

official college transcript and can use that transcript when applying to other post high school institutions as proof that they are college ready. Some FHS students use the college transcript as a part of their application for a job.

FHS Photography Shines Jessica Stoney won Grand Prize for the Anne Kirkpatrick State Wide Congressional Art Competition for her image titled Serenity (above). She and a

guest will be flown to Washington DC for the awards ceremony and her work will hang in the US Capitol Building for one year. Ellora Boudreaux – the Vice President of FHs Skills USA competition team placed 1st in the Statewide Photography Print Competition and placed 10th of 140 overall. Maddie Schepper -President of the FHS Skills USA competition team placed 2nd in the Statewide Photography Print Competition. Nick Cowan was published and awarded Honorable Mention in Nikon and Photographer's Forum International Best of High School Photography Competition. Hayden Petersen - was published and awarded Honorable Mention in Nikon and Photographer's Forum International Best of High School Photography Competition. Seventeen FHS students were selected as finalists in Nikon and Photographer's Forum International Best of High School Photography Competition. All students were published in the book. Multiple students sold work in shows and we are progressing at a fast rate.
