Its business as usual
After a long summer recess a group of very enthusiastic members of ourbranch of Women in Property came forward to continue the good work of the
previous Committees in maintaining the network of like-minded women in theconstruction and property industries.
We have prepared an exciting program of events for the next year and wouldlike to welcome you and our new members to a very busy calendar and ourfirst ever branch Newsletter.
We hope that networking opportunities offered at our events will benefit yourbusiness and enhance your confidence and career.
Inspiration: Katherine Monros advice to
other women in the commercialproperty field
Katherine Monro, a partner at Knight Frank, wasinstrumental in the creation of a new office in thefirm in Aberdeen with her fellow partners, via theacquisition of another global property consultancy in2004.
Starting a new office for Knight Frank was exciting. We have worked hard tobuild the business into a team of 14 property professionals, offering a rangeof services, including agency and development, professional services, buildingconsultancy and planning and development.
My role involves lettings, sales and acquisitions of commercial property and Ilead the firms agency department in Aberdeen. It is a very integrated roleand we do a lot of cross-selling with other departments.
Her advice to other women in the commercial property field is simple. Shesaid: Work hard and have confidence in your ability. Dont be put off thesector because it is male dominated. There are many opportunities forwomen to progress and become very successful.

Congratulations to ASMs Head of Design, Shelley McCaul. The design andfit-out specialists have scooped the Small Business of the Year award in theNorthern Star Business Awards.
Recent Event: Site Visit to UnionSquare Development in Aberdeen
In October our branch members were the guests of MillerConstruction at their new retail, transport and leisure development at Union
Square, Aberdeen. We were privileged to visit the site two weeks before itshandover to the Client, Hammerson and to learn about the specifics of this
project.
Our visit consisted of a very informative Power Point presentation, a guided tourof the facility and an elegant buffet and wine reception.
Many thanks to Lynsey Fitzpatrick, a Quantity Surveyor at Miller Construction
and Catherine McCrum for organising such an interesting site visit.

The guest speaker at our latest networking lunch on 18 th November was Sue
Clark of Scottish Enterprise, who informed the audience about theforthcoming MIPIM 2010 Expo in Cannes, France. Sue said Are you ready to
be part of Scotlands delegation at MIPIM 2010?
Team Scotland will have a significant presence in the exhibition hall, whereour stand will focus on investment opportunities in Edinburgh and across
Scotland. Well also run a full events programme on the stand and in theScotland Club from whisky tastings to presentations.
