Andreas Kufferath is one of the lea-ding manufacturers of metal fabricsand wire-cloth that are used in awide range of applications.Whether the Kufferath wire meshesare used for facade cladding, sus-pended ceilings, wall cladding, floorsurfaces, and partition walls or forsun protection, they always developtheir particular appeal in the largenumber of possible applications. Our range of wire-cloth guaranteesperfect suitability for indoor andoutdoor use and has been designedfor both architecture and designapplications.

The keys to the particular appealand attractiveness of the materialare its transparency, its capability ofreflection and its structure.

By weaving fine, flexible cables inlengthwise (warp) and rods in cross-wise (weft) direction, the materialoffers stability in one direction andflexibility in the other.

The wire meshes thus do notrestrict the designers but give themnearly unlimited creative leeway. The stainless steel guarantees ahigh degree of reflection andalmost unlimited durability.

With the ARTOS® product range,Kufferath offers the designers alarge variety of different mesh typesand the Kufferath engineers willalso enjoy developing tailor-mademeshes that will perfectly suit yourneeds.

Please do not hesitate to use theknow-how we have being a systemsupplier for getting help with yourown planning.

Of course, the ARTOS®-team willgive you the required support forinstallation or will develop with youa tailor-made system that will meetyour individual requirements.

Architects: HNTB Architecture | Wire-cloth: ARTOS® sigma 2Security, functionality, modern design, and superior quality were the central objectives of the architects at HNTBArchitecture.Over 6000 square meters of ARTOS® sigma 2 wire-cloth were used for a connecting walkway as well as a modern appea-rance for the parking garage facade.Wire-cloth was installed as an outside second skin over the walkway as a sun shade. These curved panels are the centralhighlight of the walkway design providing an extraordinary outside texture and the filtered light inside generates a coolpleasant atmosphere. The parking garage facade also provides elegant shadows inside the garage space and allows for better air circulation dueto it more open design.

Another interesting aspect of this project is the construction.Covering a curved element was a great challenge.

Translucency and physicality.

Architects and designers highly esti-mate the specific characteristics ofthe ARTOS® wire-cloth.

You will hardly find another materi-al that is able to solve the apparentinconsistency of openness and clo-seness to the same extent as theArtos meshes do.

With ARTOS® wire-cloth fabrics weoffer the architect a material thatunifies extremes, so that architectu-ral concepts can easily be realized.

Vertical wall panels, cube or sculp-tural shape, the force of natural illu-mination and air ventilation do notneed to hurt the building corpus bypenetrations.

Using architectural fabric guaran-tees a homogenous skin that keepsthe shape, openness, and maintainsthe view.

Both natural and artificial light pro-vide interesting reflections, sha-dows, and color effects. Dependingon the angle of lighting, the level oftransparency varies from transpa-rent to an opaque looking solid withinfinitely varied reflections.

Shining through the body, the fabricskin becomes a translucent mem-brane and, lightened from the outsi-de, you will get a close flat picturethat is dominated by reflections.

Architects: Zerr Hapke Nieländer, Berlin | Wire-cloth: ARTOS® sigma 2The observation deck appears like a sculpture connected to the existing building. By day the look-out towers appeal is the visibly complex structure, by night the tower transforms to a luminoussculpture.ARTOS® sigma 2 metal mesh fabric is 70% open and completely covers the tower made of diago-nal and curved steel profiles. The high transparency of the mesh fabric guarantees an unrestrictedview and still provides a safe barrier for use inside the stair tower.Kufferath provided all technical requirements for the metal fabric and attachments as well astechnical consulting for sub construction.

Architects: Murphy Jahn | Wire-cloth: ARTOS® sigma 2Thanks to a persuasive design, Murphy Jahn was able to win an international architectural competition for the BangkokSuvarnabhumi Airport. The airport power plant, as well as the six storied parking garage were covered with a façade of more than 10,000 square metersof ARTOS® sigma 2 metal mesh fabric.Following the idea of Murphy Jahn, the fabric was customized for the buildings axes to achieve a modern architectural look.Despite the high transparency of the wire-cloth facade it wraps the parking garage in a shimmering glint and gives these functio-nal buildings a magnificent appearance beside the raised main airport terminal. The innovative design of the facade system, structural engineering, project management, and support at the site were performedby Kufferath architects.

Architects: Ingenhoven und Partner | Wire-cloth: ARTOS® beta 1Located at the Georg-Brauchle-Ring opposite the legendary Olympic Stadium Uptown Munich is an extraordinary project in everyrespect. The architects of Ingenhoven and Partners reshaped Munich’s skyline with the a 146 meter office tower, the city's tallestand most prominent office building. The towers use of sophisticated materials and generous space form the special character of its lobby. In contrast to the naturalstone floor, 800 square meters of stainless steel panels of semi gloss ARTOS® beta 1 wire-cloth can be seen glistening in the mostelegant way. The panel brackets were specifically designed and manufactured by Kufferath for this project. Varying outside lightconditions result in different reflections inside the lobby giving the lobby an ever changing spirit. The lobby’s crowning moment occurs in the evenings when artificial light reflecting off the fabric panels transforms the room intoa warm and inviting space.

ARTOS® sigma is a fabric with high translucency, flexiblein the direction of the warp, stiff in the other direction.Variable in its weave ability with 2, 3 or 4 warps and custo-mizable in the mesh size, you can reach a great range ofopenness. Suitable for wall- or ceiling coverings, on faca-des or as sun protection, as well as for banister fillings orbalconies.

ARTOS® beta is coined by a lively animated surface. The fabricis rather dense and of high stiffness. Stiff in the direction ofthe weft and flexible in the other direction, this wire-clothhas its optimum application as wall- or ceiling elements, onfacades or as partition walls.

ARTOS® gamma is a very fine woven material, flexible inthe direction of the warp and simultaneously stiff in thedirection of the weft. Due to its textile character, it isoften used for luxury interior designs as suspended cei-lings, wall coverings as well as for trade fair constructions.

ARTOS® alpha is characterised by its stiffnessin two directions, as we use the same rod

material for the warp and for the weft thread. It is often used for covering wall, ceiling, or

heating elements.

ARTOS® lambda is a kind of wire-cloth with diverse structureson the front- and on the backside. This fabric is defined bythe cams on the one, and the absolutely flat surface on theother side. Stiff in the direction of the weft, flexible in thedirection of the warp, this fabric is often used for curved con-structions as well as partition walls, ceiling coverings, sunprotection and booths. Densely woven, it can also be used asfloor covering.

Lower fixing pointwith pressure spring consoleThe spring element of the pressurespring console keeps the fabric tensio-ned regardless of surrounding tempera-tures. The ARTOS®-fabric is fixed alongthe entire width with round rods. Theround rod itself can either be inserteddirectly into the fabric or through loopsmade of warp-cables.The special feature of this constructionis that the tensioning spring is behindthe wire-cloth and is thus invisible andin addition, the wire-cloth can be trak-ked down to the floor.

Fixing point variation

Upper fixing pointStandard metal fabrics are reinforced with ss–rods that are inserted into the fabricedge (parallel to the weft-wire). This strengthened edge then can easily be hooked intothe bracket so that the installation is easy and can be done very quickly. At the sametime, a reduced and captivating wire design is ensured.

Round rod installation is most suitable for:ARTOS® beta, ARTOS® sigma

round rod

Intermediate fixing pointIn case of large wingspans, intermediate fixing points can be created by means of addi-tionally integrated rods. These mountings, usually done each level, reduce the relevantspan as well as the necessary preload force. Hook-shaped intermediate fixings mustnot be factory mounted together with the rods but can be fitted on the constructionsite. This installation method helps to avoid transportation problems, especially in caseof larger sheets of fabric.

Lower fixing point with tension springThe ARTOS® fabric is fixed along the entire width with stainless steel rods so that thematerial is tensioned nearly invisibly. Only the springs come to the fore to show theiraesthetic design. The tension spring guarantees permanent tension regardless of sur-rounding temperatures. The ss-rod can either be inserted into the fabric directly (seeleft) or through loops made of warp-cables.

Frame constructionOne of the conventional ways of fixingthe wire-cloth is the frame constructi-on, i.e. the fabric is fixed in angle secti-ons. Various types of metals as well aswood can serve as material for theframe construction, forming an inter-esting contrast to the ss-steel.

The frame construction is suitable forall of the ARTOS® fabrics.
