Eyelash of the Real World
Eyelash was as concerned with the unknown as most
people are with the known. Reality liked to call her flights
of imagination daydreams, obsessions and useless wastes
of time. Reality tends to do a great many dastardly things
of that nature.
It often seemed to Eyelash, as it would often seem toanyone who cares enough for a flimsy dream or two, that
reality and imagination were these two different lands, and
between them, the abyss was widening. What is it that
would occur, were the two to meet? On the one hand it
could be chaos, much to the glee of the practical, the
particular and the prudent. On the other, the humbugswould create pure magic.
Was imagination a personal thing like ambitions and
toothbrushes, or was it a collective?
Eyelashs ears wished frequently to rot and fall off when
she was rebuked for flying into fancies and curiosities such
as these. Perhaps only destiny was paying aention after
all. Isnt that why destiny had made a selection of herparticular soul for the legendary turn of events?
Destiny has been caught red handed, making heroes of
those who are ordinary at first sight. Or maybe, thats just

fictions way of puing it. Eyelash was not ordinary. She
was crazy calm, an exclamatory treasure. Maybe it was her
own bale that she was about to fight. Maybe?
Terribly unfeasible would it be, for me to describe
Eyelash racially or geographically. So I have left the entire
text for the reader to figure out what she is really like, for
people are most ideally defined by the choices they make.
People are what they do, not what they look like, wouldnt
you agree? Gives you a good excuse to read right through
to the end?Eyelash had an audacious eye for what the eye was not
meant to see. The things I mean are objectionable only in
the sense that they are unreal. Some unreal things that were
close to her heart were often largely unreal, others
infrequently unreal and even just a tad unreal. And seeing
the unreal meant just believing in it.The beginning of her wonderful journey was not from
an aunts farm in a summer vacation. No Ladies and
Gentlemen, only the make believe have the luxury of that.
Her journey began on an extraordinary night when destiny
had shunned her prejudices to descend so close to reality,
that she painted it in miracles. It was an extraordinary night
for Eyelash as well, for is it not extraordinary for anadolescent to be given the liberty of enjoying a concert, a
week before an examination?
Eyelash, the girl with a crazy sense of humor and aprofound sense of peace poered about her house, having
aended a frantic call from Iris, saying the concert was
about to start and she should be on her way, They will

close the gates in ten minutes, Eyelash!
Fishy raisins of the snapping mountains! Im on my
way.
In preparing for this concert of the year, Eyelash had sat
down before the mirror for the essentials. Frantically, she
hunted around for lip-gloss and earrings in every one of the
gazillion and a half drawers in the dresser. The green
earrings were too round for a shirt, the coral ones too dressy
for her jeans, but never you mind about that.
She turned on the light over the mirror, all the beer tosee herself with. She looked at herself, black haired and
drop dead gregarious, and then bent to pick up her
hairbrush, taking her eyes off the mirror for only a moment.
And then she squealed in shock.
This time in looking up, Eyelash did not find herself
facing her own reflection. The girl in her mirror was entirely different, a sharp
nosed creature, her age, with black hair streaked in red,
blue, purple, gold and other unlikely colours. In
stupendous alarm had Eyelash thrown down her brush, as
the girl stared at her. Eyelash blinked, and in blinking, the
faux reflection vanished, leaving behind the face of a
bewildered Eyelash. She touched the mirror and it felt ascold and mundane as it had always done.
Her heart was still thudding, because the reflection had
been so clear and unmistakable. For a moment, there had
indeed been someone in her mirror, that wasnt her.
Eyelashs activities had now considerably slowed down.
She did not take her eyes off of the mirror for the next twominutes as she brushed her hair. The heart-stopping
incident did not happen again, much to her relief.
She soon forgot all about it (or tried to at least), and

concluded that her dizzy lile head had just performed a
marvellous feat of hallucination. This sort of thing would
be expected of it.
So, Eyelash had gone, with a close buddy, Iris, to the
Spangles Dome, a mighty arena in the heart of her city. Her
car halted before the red monumental expanse that was
referred to as the Spangles, and she shoved through the
crowd till she had unknowingly stuffed her pass up the
ushers nose, and pushed away the bands lead guitarist, so
she could get into the concert hall. She was anticipating themost gala time of her life, which she did get. Only, in the
most unimaginable way.
For fire broke out midway. In the midst of a particularly
beautifully jarring note, someone had given the shout of
Fire, and soon there was smoke and flame and people
barging and tumbling. Fiery strands awoke out of many anook and cranny like glowing straws of destruction.
Enough aempts were made at asking everybody to calmly
exit, but nobody does ever calmly exit during a catastrophe.
The celebrities were escorted out of course, while the rest
were shoved into the nearest outlets. Iris called out to
Eyelash for a politely adequate period of time and then
disappeared off to another end, very near the exit. Eyelashhad had the misfortune to have been pushed to the very
limits of the ancient hall, and now stood between the stone
stage and a series of locked doors that are such a ubiquitous
feature of old buildings, and one really never knows where
they lead. She tried to run either way with her hand tightly
over her nose, but the people were too many for her tohandle.
Just then, one of the wooden beams on the roof began to
glow and crumble. As it came hurtling towards the ground,

Eyelash found herself directly in its way. The only way left
for her to go was back, and she could not get the door to
open. In frantic panic, she pushed and banged it, standing
as close to it as she possibly could. She wished hard for a
miracle. In a moment, it opened up, and she passed through it.
