March 7th & 8th

5PM Mass Brady Bell and Family 9AM Mass No Family Assigned 11AM Mass No Family Assigned

We continue to suspend the exchange of the sign of peace & the Precious Blood (the cup at communion) at St. Mary Magdalen parish. Amid the growing concerns regarding the COVID-19 virus, it is important to be mindful of common sense practices that should be observed at all times.

The faithful of the Diocese of Wilmington are urged to observe standard precautions, including practicing good hygiene, washing hands frequently & covering your mouth when sneezing or coughing.

Parishioners are also reminded that if they are sick, especially with flu-like symptoms, they should stay home for their own well-being and that of others. If parishioners are sick or suspect they are sick with a contagious illness, they are not bound by the Sunday Mass obligation.

GIRL SCOUT SUNDAY

We celebrate Girl Scout Sunday at the 9AM Mass this weekend. Girl Scouts of all levels will participate in the Children’s Liturgy of the Word and host coffee & donuts in the hall.

14TH ANNUAL ST. PATRICK’S DAY 3V3 TOURNAMENT

Autism Delaware.

ADULT FORMATION: FORTY MINUTES FOR FORTY DAYS

Join us each Monday in Lent for 40 minutes of sharing and conversation on Lenten Gospel readings. Using Bishop Barron’s book, “Lenten Gospel Reflections,” these gatherings will be informal, friendly, and brief. A simple way to enrich your journey through Lent.

Each Monday in March beginning March 2 St. Mary Magdalen School Library at 7PM

FASTING AND ABSTINENCE

ABSTINENCE – Fridays during Lent are obligatory days of

abstinence from meat. The norms concerning abstinence are binding upon

members of the Catholic Church from age 14 +.

FASTING – The law of fasting requires a Catholic from the 18th birthday (Canon 97) to the 59th birthday (i.e. the beginning of the 60th year, a year which will be completed on the 60th birthday) to reduce the amount of food eaten from normal. The church defines this as 1 meal a day & 2 smaller meals which if added together would not exceed the mail meal in quantity.

(Ash Wednesday & Good Friday are obligatory days of fasting and abstinence from meat for Catholics.)

VIA CRUCIS 2020: St. Anthony of Padua Church invites you its 2020 presentation of the Via Crucis, a live re-enactment of the last days

of Christ by area schoolchildren. The one-hour performance is staged at 7:30 pm at St. Anthony’s Church, 905 N. DuPont Street in Wilmington. Performances for 2020 are every Friday during Lent, ending on Good Friday. Over 100 students from area schools make up the cast of the Via Crucis. Over 20 SMM children are participating in Via Crucis!

FR. GARY WEISMANN - PARISH MISSION PRIEST: Fr. Gary Weismann is a missionary priest for the Diocese of Mandeville, Jamaica & was ordained to priesthood for the Archdiocese of Miami in 1983. He has a Master of Divinity degree from Mount Saint Mary Seminary in Cincinnati, Ohio, and a Master of Social Work degree from Barry University in Miami, Florida. He has served in parish ministry, hospital ministry and on special assignments. He found his true calling in preaching on behalf of the poor & has been incardinated into the Diocese of Mandeville, Jamaica & serves as Director of Mission Awareness. Presently, Fr.Gary preaches mission appeals throughout the U.S. doing fundraising for his poor diocese.

MARRIAGES In the sacrament of Matrimony, the following were

united in marriage here at St. Mary Magdalen:

Abigail Blacker & Kyle Hughes December 7, 2019

Lisa Centrone & Paul Rosaio January 18, 2020

Anne-Marie O’Brien & William Cannon February 29, 2020 (Convalidation)

May they continue to experience God’s love as they begin their journey as husband and wife.

PARENTING POINTERS:

Have fun with your children by joking about frivolous unlucky things that have happened in your life. Then turn it around and talk about times when you were really lucky.

MARRIAGE MOMENTS:

A contract is an agreement based on distrust, a covenant is a commitment based on trust. That’s why the scriptures continually refer to God’s covenant with humanity. Our Church refers to marriage as a covenant between the two spouses and God. It goes beyond a legal contract. S. Vogt
