Collaborative Drop Off Locations

The St. Anthony collection box is located in the vestibule of the church beneath the bulletin boards and in the green bin at the door of the Depot behind the church. The St. Barbara collection box is located in the vestibule of the church under the table below the bulletin board.

Donations are being accepted through February 16.

FYI From Fr. Powers

As Catholics we have a rich tradition of devotions. At this time of year, there are two blessings that make their way into parish life. We will bless throats and candles. Saint Blaise was a fourth century bishop in Armenia. He is remembered for having saved a small boy from choking on a fish bone. Because of this, people through the ages have sought his help, especially those who are afflicted with ailments of the throat. On February 3rd or the Sunday before the Feast of Saint Blaise, the church continues its ministry to the sick through the blessing of throats. Two blessed candles are joined in the form of a cross and usually tied with a red ribbon (as a sign of the martyrdom of Blaise). The candles are placed around the throat of each person asking a blessing. This is the prayer of blessing: "Through the intercession of Saint Blaise, bishop and martyr, may God deliver you from every disease of the throat and

from every other illness: + In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." On February 2nd the Church celebrates the Feast of the Presentation of the Lord known as Candlemas day. On that day or the Sunday before, we bless candles in church. Candles are used in the administration of all the Sacraments except Penance. We can light a votive “candle” before the shrine to Our Blessed Mother in our parish church. As they continue to burn in church, it can comfort us to know that the light of our candle continues to honor and pray to Jesus with His Blessed Mother. Many Catholic families have blessed candles in their homes. The candles blessed in our parish church will be used for all sacramental celebrations this year. Some candles will be made available for you to take home. Here is the prayer of blessing:

God our Father, source of all light, Today you revealed to Simeon

Your Light of revelation to the nations. Bless + these candles and make them holy.

May we who carry them to praise your glory Walk in the path of goodness

And come to the light that shines forever. Grant this through Christ our Lord, Amen

Next weekend, we will bless throats at all Masses in both parishes. We will also bless candles at the 10:00 AM Mass at St. Barbara on February 2nd.

BLESSING OF THE THROATS

Blessing of the Throats will take place after all Masses next weekend, on the Feast of St. Blaise.

St. Blaise is the Patron Saint of people with illnesses of the throat.

Join with members of other Christian churches and communities in Woburn for the Christian Unity Prayer

Service at the United Methodist Church, 523 Main Street, Woburn on Sunday, January 26, 2020 at
