Well this is the class for you! The first class is a technique class where you will be working with mini-piping, bias binding and learning how to mitre corners.

The second class will give you the opportunity to finish a project or start a new one and practice the dressmaking skills you have learnt. You will need a sewing machine and a pin tucking foot.

Have you run out of room for framed embroideries? If you would like to

present your embroideries in a different way, learn how to construct a

hinged lid, fully lined box 8cm x 13cm x 5cm. Once you have the basic

construction hints and measurements, you can use this as a way of

presenting your treasures. Join Christine to perfect the art of putting a box

together. This could be Maree Talbot’s beautiful project from Summer

School or Christine will give you an alternative.

Tutor will provide, as a kit, cut card and notes (cost of kit $22). If you are making up Maree’s box, you will need to supply all requirements.

Goldwork embroidery is a fascinating style of embroidery using a vast variety of metal threads to create textures and patterns within a design. I find the play of light onto different types metal threads and wires one of the most fascinating things about goldwork embroidery. In this two day workshop you will learn a variety of techniques used when attaching metal threads and purls. Sonnet is stitched using different types of metal threads combined with coloured silk threads to create lines and fillings. Metal purls in different sizes and textures, beads and spangles are used to create the textured filling of the song bird and delicate flowers. To get the most from the workshop, I advise that you have a little experience working with metal threads and are comfortable working with fine threads. The embroidery design measures 15cm x 10cm wide. Class kit cost: $90 The kit includes: Detailed instruction booklet with colour photographs and diagrams. DISCOVER SASHIKO Barbara Mullan Sunday 23 June 2019 Class Cost: $55 Members $65 Guest stitchers Join Barbara Mullan for a 1 day introduction to Sashiko. Sashiko uses a simple running stitch to form patterns on cloth. Sashiko -meaning little stabs or little pierce in Japanese - is a form of Japanese Embroidery in use since the 1600’s. Originating in the north of Japan Sashiko traditionally uses white thread on indigo cloth. Traditionally 2 layers of cloth were used to make a stronger fabric and simple to intricate designs are made using this meditative slow stitch technique. This class is suitable for everyone from those who have never embroidered to the most experienced stitchers seeking to expand their repertoire.

ELIZABETHAN BLACKWORK WITH A TOUCH OF GOLD Di Fisher

Sunday 4 August and Sunday 11 August 2019

Class cost: Members $110 Guest stitchers $130 Blackwork panel inspired by late 16th century examples. Di Fisher brings to us another ongoing project with part 1 of an amazing sampler of black and gold work inspired by an Elizabethan sleeve. The first part features the beginning of a scrolling design featuring flowers, a pomegranate and a leaf, as well as animals including a polar bear, cat, fox and stag. Each motif is embroidered in blackwork patterns, worked in Au Ver a Soie black silk, with some details in a range of stitches, such as woven spider’s webs, plaited braid, reverse chain and ladder and vandyke stitch in gold thread. The design measures H. 27cm x W. 22cm and is worked on 36 count antique white linen. The linen and silk thread will be available from the tutor. The design can be enlarged or modified, worked on a linen with a different thread count if wished. Students may stitch it all in black rather than with the Gold Students may wish to stitch one motif. Careful placement of the couching stitches is important to achieve clear, crisp patterns and shading In this one day workshop you will learn how to couch the laid threads in circular motion (also known as Italian Shading) while forming solid coloured areas and shading with your couching stitches. The textured centre of both designs is created with a variety of gilt purls, spangles and silk threads. show each student how to translate the subject from paper to canvas.

Once the basic drawing is stitched to their own canvas, then each student

can begin to develop my simple lines into an image of their own; intricate,

colourful and full of tonal depth.

AMBER LIZARD OR LADY IN BLACK Nancy Williams Sunday 15 and Sunday 29 September 2019 Class cost: Members $110 Guest stitchers $130

Stitched in a rich palette of jewel tones to subtle silks, these surface sticheries stand on their own or make a beautiful set and are worked in a range of surface stitches, beads and sequins using a variety of threads and techniques. The pieces, inspired by the craze for adult colouring books, can be turned into many types of projects or, if you prefer, can be framed and hung on the wall. Please indicate which kit you would like when enrolling to ensure there are enough kits. Kit cost - includes all threads, embellishments, fabric, needle and illustrated instructions. Choose between or buy all 3 kits in the series—Choices Sapphire Sea Turtle, Emerald Frog or Amber Lizard. Nancy will have extra kits available on the day.

SURFACE STITCHING - AMBER LIZARD Level - Intermediate The third design in the series, Amber Lizard follows on from the Sapphire Sea Turtle and the Emerald Frog. Stitched in desert shades - browns, oranges and golds, the project contains a variety of surface stitches and beads designed to challenge your skills. If you have worked the previous projects, you'll be familiar with a number of the stitches, but there will be some new stitches to try. Kit cost: Approximately $25-$30 Size: 12.5cm x 12cm SURFACE STITCHING - WOMAN IN BLACK Level - Intermediate If a lizard or creature isn't your cup of tea, you can choose the Woman in Black project. CLASSES AT THE GUILD INFORMATION AND COPYRIGHT We love to have people, both members and guest stitchers, at our classes and we want to make it a wonderful experience. Just some information for you all.

Classes at the Guild begin at 9.45 so the teacher can start teaching at 10.00. If you are late, the teacher won’t wait for you as that’s not fair to others.

Please put your phone on silent or vibrate.

We supply tea and coffee and sometimes morning tea - feel free to bake something and bring along. We love that.

We do not supply lunch, however, there is a fridge, microwave and sandwich press and plenty of local cafes.

Our teachers are going to teach you their way of doing things so if you have a different way of doing things that’s lovely but the class isn’t there to learn your way. Please let the teacher teach.
