National Reconciliation Week 2016
This week we recognise National Reconciliation Week
2016. On Thursday 26 May I accompanied Claire
Hellessey and Macloud Picker to a morning tea held to
acknowledge Sorry Day. The morning tea was hosted by
Goulburn Mulwaree Council at the Art Gallery. If you
have the opportunity over the next week, take a visit to
the gallery - the exhibition is fantastic.
Claire and Macloud were wonderful ambassadors for our
school and both enjoyed chatting to our Lord Mayor,
Geoff Kettle and Alfie Walker, Councillor and Local Land
Council member.
Staff Professional Learning
Last week Mr Martin and Mrs Spillane attended an Executive network meeting in Gunning and on Friday I attended
a Principal’s network meeting in Yass. On Monday and Tuesday this week Mrs Reitano continued her training in
Focus on Reading (Yrs 3-6) and today our Kindergarten teachers participated in their ongoing training in L3
(Language, Literacy and Learning). All teachers have been completing modules in How to Learn, during weekly
staff meetings and Mrs Murray has also been attending regular training in readiness for new administration
procedures. Staff at Wollondilly P.S. continually strive to improve teaching, administration strategies and practices.
Welfare Focus Group
The Group meets again tomorrow at 2.15pm. Teachers, students and parents will be reviewing current practices
used at Wollondilly P.S. for acknowledging appropriate behaviours.
Please come along or put forward your ideas via the suggestion box in the office foyer.

On Friday 17 June, the SRC will be holding a fundraiser called The Ultimate Pie Challenge. The money from this fundraiser will go towards the Childhood Cancer Association which provide a range of services to children who have cancer and their families. Also, and here’s the exciting part, if we raise $400 Mrs Bradley says she will be ‘pied’ by some very lucky person! As well as Mrs Bradley, some students who have been nominated and possibly some teachers will get pied too. There are two ways you can support this fundraiser:
Go online and donate ($400 to be reached so
Mrs Bradley can get pied)

Autumn is over and the year is finally rolling into the colder
months. This means football and hockey season and late
afternoons at training. What better way to wind down after these
activities than to read a book. Find a place to snuggle up on a
cold night or a rainy weekend and READ!
Reading can invigorate yet settle the mind.
Reading can take you away to exciting and exotic places.
Reading can entertain and teach you things you need to
know.
But best of all READING is free and available to everyone,
regardless of age, skill and ability.
From novels to picture books, non-fiction to magazines,
there is something to suit every one.
PS Don’t forget the latest library Science Competition. If you
missed the last WAG, here are the details.
I would challenge you to make a kite that will actually fly!
The rules are simple;
1. You cannot buy a kite from a shop to enter.
2. You can get help from family or friends.
3. You can enter as a team of up to 4 people.
4. You kite can be in any design, but must fly by aid of a string.
5. We will be testing these kites to determine the winner, so it
must be able to fly.
6. There is no size restriction.
7. You can make your kite from any material that you would
like. But I would suggest that you do not use bricks or
cement, ha ha!
The winner will be the kite that
can stay up in the air the
longest. Take your time and do
some kite research. You have
from now until the 18 June 2016
to get your entries in AND we will
be testing them on Peden Oval in
the last week of this term.
Parents and carers are invited to
the flight test.

Dear Parents/Carers
Our school has registered to participate in the 2016 NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge Primary
School Sport Challenge.
The purpose of the Challenge is to encourage students to participate in sport, games and physical activity and to have more students, more active, more often!
Over a ten week period (Week 4, Term 2 to Week 3, Term 3) our school will be monitoring physical activity we do during class time, at recess and lunch as well as during sport. What we do outside school hours will also count towards the Challenge award.
We would especially like to invite all our families to support us in encouraging students’ healthy use of leisure time and to experience the joy of being active together.
Each student will be issued with a Challenge log book to record their physical activity.
Students completing the Challenge will receive a personalised certificate, signed by the Premier of New South Wales.
Physical activity is valued for its physical, social and emotional benefits. It also helps young people to develop communication skills, confidence and resilience while having fun with family and friends.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of the Challenge or make suggestions, please contact Mrs Kellie Cameron who will be pleased to talk further with you. For more information on the NSW Premier’s Sporting Challenge please visit https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/psc
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Kellie Cameron

SRC Update
On the 30/05/2016, the SRC had a visit from the Mayor, Mr Geoff Kettle and Mr Moller to discuss the bubblers for the playground. It was an exciting opportunity for the SRC to discuss our project. We asked them a couple questions concerning the bubblers and plumbing for McIntyre Oval. We also discussed the size, colour, delivering issues, location and cost of the bubblers. We had a great time scoffing down caramel cake and Tim Tams, we all had a blast getting to know them both!!! Our fundraiser for the Childhood Cancer Association is fast approaching. We need to raise $400 for someone to be able to throw a pie at Mrs Bradley! Thank you to those who have already donated. At our K-2 Assembly last Friday (27 May), it
was with much pleasure that we had a
special guest, local real estate agent,
Angella Storrier.
Mrs Storrier’s company, Angella Storrier
Real Estate kindly donated $1,500-00 to the
school.
It is a wonderful donation which will be used
in the K-2 Stage to help expand our
collection of big books reading resources.
Our photos show Angella Storrier presenting
School Captains Abbey Loader and Charlie
McCall with the cheque for $1500-00.
Thank you Angella Storrier Real Estate

5/6A
5/6A; 5/6F and 5/6B have been developing STEM (Science Technology Engineering mathematics) projects during
this term. Groups were organised across the three stage 3 classes and students were shown clips of what Rubes
Goldberg machines were all about. Through collaborative planning, students were given the task to come up with
ideas using the Rubes Goldberg machine principle. For the past 5 weeks planning has been underway and
machines are being built and trialled. Scientific principals have to be followed with teamwork and planning is vital
for the success of the projects.
So what is a Rubes Goldberg machine?
A Rube Goldberg machine is a contraption, invention, device or apparatus that is deliberately over-engineered to
perform a simple task in a complicated fashion, generally including a chain reaction. The expression is named after
American cartoonist and inventor Rube Goldberg (1883–1970).
An example of a Rubes Goldberg machine.
The 5/6 classes are making Rubes Goldberg machines. They are planning, collecting and building. We are making
tracks and just a simple object such as ringing a bell. By Macloud Picker Year 6
It is a very fun topic for science and it involved a lot of hands on work. About three months ago I built a Rubes
Goldberg machine and didn’t even know I was doing it. A Rube Goldberg contraption is a complex group of parts
that does a simple thing such as ringing a bell, opening a door or even watering a plant. It uses materials like
books, boxes, funnels and marbles. Written by, Lucas Ottley Year 5
5/6A have been working hard on Rube Goldberg machines which are inventions. You use stuff like old cartons and
other things. It is very good and lots of fun. You have to plan and think outside the box.
Written by Buster Strickland Year 6
It’s been a lot of fun building, planning and collecting materials for our Rube Goldberg machine. My group
members are, myself, Rodel Racelis, Paul Cabanas, Dylan Hockey. We’ve been collecting materials like string,
toilet paper, plastic cups and boxes. Our teachers have been supporting us with materials like marbles. Written by
Bayley Gerstenberg Year 5
It’s been a lot of fun collecting materials and making our machine. My group is Connor Wilding Skelly, Jessikah
Morris, Ayrika Scott and Selena Bates. Our teachers have been giving us advice about our machines and given us
a lot of inspiration. Written by Wil Backhouse. Year 6
