Market producers are almost all women
![Page 5: Women's Markets Initiative PNG](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052915/58f08f1a1a28abb1318b4631/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)

Yet markets are overwhelminglycontrolled by men
![Page 7: Women's Markets Initiative PNG](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052915/58f08f1a1a28abb1318b4631/html5/thumbnails/7.jpg)

Worse: Market sellers are harassed byoverbearing officials / land-owners, petty
criminals, beggars and extortionists
![Page 9: Women's Markets Initiative PNG](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052915/58f08f1a1a28abb1318b4631/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)
As a result, market facilities are poor or non-existent and women sit at the bottom of the economic hierarchy
![Page 10: Women's Markets Initiative PNG](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052915/58f08f1a1a28abb1318b4631/html5/thumbnails/10.jpg)
When a woman earns K10, she will spend K7.50 on her family and K2.50 on herself

BUT, if a man receives K10, he will spend K7.50 on himself for leisure and pleasure
and give only K2.50 to his family

![Page 13: Women's Markets Initiative PNG](https://reader033.vdocument.in/reader033/viewer/2022052915/58f08f1a1a28abb1318b4631/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
