Greatness of Udhi

********************************

Guru’s grace is endless. It cures our sins . His words give us eternal pleasure. One can never repay this debt to Him .

DOCTOR’S SISTER’S SON

When a boy was suffering from a tuberculous tumor, his uncle, who is a doctor tried his best with surgery and other methods along with his co-doctor. When it all failed, the boy was taken to Shirdi, as advised by friends and relatives. Baba blessed the boy and assured the people that the dweller of the masjid, Dwaraka Mayi will not forsake those who come to HER and gave some udhi to be applied over the tumor. Miraculously, he got cured and the doctor, on hearing this was much surprised and wanted to visit Shirdi. But, he was dissuaded by some mischief mongers and went to Alibhag instead. On hearing a voice for three nights, ‘don’t you believe in me still?’. He decided to go to Shirdi , but only after one of his patients recovers from fever. The next day he got cured and went to Shirdi to have darshan. Within 15 days, he got a promotion and got a transfer to Bijapur. He became a permanent devotee of Sai.

DR. PILLAI

Dr. Pillai was a close devotee of Baba. Once, he was suffering from Guinea worms disease and even wanted to end

his life due to pain. Baba called him and kept him in the masjid, saying a crow will come and cure him. While he was lying on the floor, one Mr. Abdul came to light the lamps and accidentally stepped on his affected leg. Dr. Pillai cried in pain but all the seven worms got pressed out. Soon he was laughing with joy and asked Baba about the crow! Sai replied that the crow came in Abdul’s form and won’t come again. He gave him some udhi and asked him to apply daily and Dr. pillai’s disease got cured in ten days.

SHAMA’S SISTER IN LAW

Shama’s brother Babaji lived in a nearby village. One day Shama got the news that his brother’s wife was suffering from Plague and wanted to go there with some udhi from Baba. Sai told him to go the next day and return, since the weather was bad that night. Shama went the next day but to his surprise saw the lady making tea in the kitchen. He understood the meaning of Baba’s words, ‘go and return’ and came back immediately. When he praised Sai for this leela, Baba humbly said that it is His Master who does everything and that he is just a messenger. One should get rid of his ego and surrender to win God’s Grace.

IRANIAN GIRL

When an Iranian girl from Mumbai suffered from epilepsy, her father got some udhi from Kaka Saheb Dixit and mixed it with water and gave it to her daily. The frequency came down gradually and she became better.

GENTLEMAN FROM HARDHA

A gentleman from Hardha suffered from kidney stones and luckily, got some udhi from the local county clerk and drank it with water.

Saiamrutham — “Man learns through experience. He will encounter many spiritual difficulties and obstacles

in his path. Those are the very experiences he needed to overcome and complete the cleansing process.”

Within a few minutes, the stone passed out and he recovered quickly.

MUMBAI LADY

This lady suffered from labor pains and as advised by one devotee ‘Sri Rama Maruthi’ went to Shirdi and stayed there for some months. This time also, she got severe labor pains and took some udhi with water. Although the baby was stillborn, she delivered without any pain. She was ever grateful to Sai for His Grace.

NAVARATHRI

*****************************

The special nine nights of the year is almost here. As we all know, in these nine nights, we celebrate Devi Durga on first three nights, Devi Lakshmi on next three nights, and Devi Saraswati on the final three nights. The tenth night is celebrated as Vijayadasami.

There is a spiritual significance to Navarathri celebrations. As the great Gurus say, the purpose of human birth is to attain God. Worshipping Devis in all three forms helps us get rid of negativities, build positive virtues, and purify our hearts. Pure heart is the first and foremost requirement to get closer to the Divine. Thus, Navarathri becomes a culmination of everything we have been talking about here on this page.

Devi Durga helps us get rid of our animalistic evil tendencies. Hence She is Mahishasuramardhini, the One who kills the Mahisha we have in our quality. Mahisha represents Tamas, one of the three Gunas every one of us have. Tamas is nothing but darkness and ignorance.

Devi Lakshmi gives us not just the wealth of material richness, but She is also the giver of all good virtues, which is the real wealth.

Devi Saraswati showers us with knowledge, especially the spiritual one, called Gnana.

Thus Devi Durga gets rid of our ignorance, Devi Lakshmi gives the good virtues, and Devi Saraswati gives the ultimate knowledge. One could see that how we prepare ourselves, purify ourselves, and attain the ultimate knowledge, gradually during these nine nights.

The tenth night is Vijayadasami, representing the Victory over our own minds as we worship the three Devis.

May the Divine Mother shower her blessings on All!

*** GOD BLESS ***

THE GREEDY COBRA AND THE FROG KING

************************************** There lived a Frog King called Gangadhatta. He and his fellow frogs lived safely inside a big well. They survived on the fish and other beings in the water. When they were out of food, the other frogs complained to the King and he being lazy, did not like to hear their complaints. He came out of the well and went here and there in search of food for his friends and relatives. He sighted upon a Cobra, going inside a hole in a tree and had an idea. We went near the dugout in the tree and addressed the Cobra as his friend and invited him to his house in the well. The Cobra was old and wise and knew pretty much that the frog is not his friend and told him so immediately. But the frog King insisted. The cobra came out and met with the Frog. He asked as to how he will come inside a slippery well and what will he eat. To this the frog replied that he knew of a way to go inside the well and sit comfortably and eat the frogs who were his annoying relatives. Also he told the cobra that he should not eat his friends and family. The cobra agreed and went inside the hole and sat comfortably and started eating only the frogs that were pointed at by the frog king. Time went by and when all his annoying relatives were eaten by the cobra, the frog told him to get out of the well. By now the cobra is old and lazy also and did not like to go out and hunt any more. He started eating one by one all the friends and also the relatives of the frog

king. At last only the frog king remained. Now, the cobra demanded more food. Then the King told him that he will go out and get him food. Days went by. Cobra asked a lizard who came by to look for the frog king. Then the lizard told that the frog king had left word with him that the Cobra is not only very greedy and but also very hungry and he being his friend will not matter to him and will eat him without a second thought and so, he is leaving his home. Cobra not only lost his friend, but also his livelihood and died alone in that well. The frog king too was very sad having lost his friends and family.

* N a v a r a t h r i G o l u * - S r e e l a t h a P a r a s u

Navarathri was celebrated to honor The Divine Mother Goddess Durga, whose prime reason of incarnation was to kill the demon Mahishasura. The three Goddesses namely Parvati, Lakshmi and Saraswathi merge together to form Goddess Durga. Due to the complexity of the boon he was awarded. The combined strength of three Goddesses were needed to rescue this world and the nether worlds from the cruel hands of Mahishasura. The word Navarathri means Nine nights, and these nine days are split into sets of three, three days to honor each Goddess. First three days for Parvathi, second three days for Lakshmi and third three days for Saraswati. Followed by Vijayadasami, celebrating the victory on the tenth day.

Elderly person in the family begins the Navarathri celebration by performing a Ganapathi Pooja, then a Kalasa Pooja welcoming the three Goddesses. Later Golu Padi, steps with wooden planks are set up in odd numbers. And is layered with the nice fabric for the dolls, figurines, and different deities to be displayed. As per the traditional practice wooden Bride and Groom known as "Marapachi Bommai" decorated with new fine clothes each year is placed first and then followed by other dolls. It was an ancient custom relating to this wooden couple as representing the local King and Queen and people prayed for their long life and prosperity of the Kingdom. Bommai Golu or Doll Festival is celebrated as part of Navarathri.

Golu Padi is displayed with the deities at the topmost, tallest in size and followed by other dolls and figurines. Scenes from the Epics and other holy scriptures, Dasa avataras of Vishnu, idols of the Trinities with their consorts, figurines of famous temples, Krishna and his leelas, figurines of great saints and seers, everyday scenes, wedding processions, marketplace, miniature kitchen sets, and all that a young girl would love to play with is portrayed in the display. Nowadays real miniature fields, with sprouts of different spices and grains, amusement parks and railway tracks with trains etc. are added in the display.

Women in the neighborhood invite each other to view Golu in their homes during the evenings. They light the lamps, prepare special food and keep gifts ready to be given to the guests. The host requests the guests to sing and chant devotional hymns and slokas and distribute gifts with haldi and kumkum. Food items are first offered to the Gods and Goddesses and then distributed to the guests.

Saraswati Puja is celebrated on the 9th day, special pujas are offered to Goddess Saraswati, to bestow upon us wisdom and enlightenment. Books, musical instruments, and tools, are all placed in the puja and worshipped as they all represent the source of knowledge. The next day(10th day) is Vijayadasami, the most auspicious day, on which evil was finally destroyed by good. Hence it marks the prosperous beginning. Children begin tutoring classes for fine arts and education. Adults commence new ventures on this day to flourish and prosper.

In the evening of Vijayadasami day, symbolically the kalasa and one doll from the Golu is moved and prayers are offered to thank God for the successful completion of that year and hoping the following one will be successful too. Then the Golu is disassembled and packed for the next year. Navarathri is celebrated with such enthusiasm and excitement, in the temples and some houses with singing, dancing, and distribution of gifts and specially prepared food. Women and children love to dress up in lovely colorful traditional attire, and are happy to visit and enjoy singing and receiving gifts.
