    Open your browser and go to: http://richmond.learnaboutwork.net

    Select Student and on the next screen, select your school, then enter your full name and your pin number

    Your pin number is your unique password, without it you will not be able to log in.

    You should keep your number safe and secret.

    Once you have successfully logged in your screen will look like this:

    If you are unable to find your own placement, don’t worry. This system also allows you to make selections from avariety of work areas and ask REBP to find you a placement.

    Click on the search at the top of this page to see the areas on offer. If you choose to ask REBP to select aplacement for you then you must be prepared to accept whichever job you are offered.

    By 01/06/2011 you must either have entered details of your own find or made selections on this site.

  • How to organise a work experience placementOwn Find

    Youareencouragedtofindyourownplacementin a sector of industry that you are most interested in.

    Click on Own Find in the top menu.

    • If you have not already been provided with one byyourschool,downloadtheownfindform

    • Check the deadlines in red at the bottom of the page

    • Once you have arranged a placement enter as many details as you can onto the page and click the submit button

    • Give the completed paper copy of the Own Find form to your work experience coordinator at school.

    • The information that you have submitted will be used to arrange your placement

    The system also allows you to select from a variety of work areas that you are interested in and placement will be arranged for you. However, you must be prepared to accept whichever job you are offered.

    From the home page, click on Search and the different categories of jobs will be displayed

    Possible roles for work experience• Veterinary assistant• Dog groomer• Stablehand• Pet shop sales assistant

    Once a placement has been confirmed with a business or organisation, you will be issued with a specific jobdescription for your work experience. This will also include health & safety details and provide you with a riskassessment that will tell you about the hazards in the work place. You must show the job descriptionto your parent/carer before the placement begins.

    The following information gives you an insight of what a placement in this area of work might include

    Possible tasks

    • assisting with the care of the animals • including cleaning out animal quarters• cleaning and disinfection of premises• preparing food for the animals• feeding and watering• observing surgeries and procedures • exercising animals• grooming and bathing animals • assisting with customers• learning about health and safety

    You should

    • have an interest in animals• be confident to handle animals • be calm and patient when dealing with any animal • have good hand-to-eye co-ordination and attention to detail • have a genuine interest in the care and behaviour of animals • Be able to follow instructions at all times• have good interpersonal and communication skills

    Students must have current tetanus vaccination and advise the employer of any known allergies

    If you have experience in working with horses you should list this in your hobbies and interest section.

    • Casual clothing unless told otherwise at interview, you may also need suitable outdoor clothing
