A. ESCROW.

Upwork Fixed-Price Protection uses escrow to help client get the work they’ve asked for and for freelancer to get paid for work completed. When clients making a fixed-price offer, they’ll make a deposit to escrow to pre-fund the first milestone of work. In simplier words, escrow serves as your middle man and he will ask your client for a first down payment bago ka mag start. At the same time, escrow will not going to release the money until you submitted the final work, or hindi ka pa nagpapakita ng preview/work in progress.

Although, I suggest you to keep on working inside upwork premises as long as possible para hindi bumaba ang rank mo and masmabilis kang mapabilang sa mga most active and top freelancers online.

D. UPWORK SETS A LEGITIMATE MINIMUM HOURLY RATE.

Before, madaming nagko-complain about hourly rate na sine-set ng mga employers sa mga job posts nila. Sobrang baba and hindi makatarungan. I didn’t have that kind of client though. If you heard about Elance.com, it’s the Odesk.com’s strongest competitor when it comes to quality control between the relationship of employers and freelancers. I also had an elance account and I may say na talo talaga and odesk dahil sa elance, walang clients/employer na below $3 lang ang kayang ibigay. Pwede mo pa agad i-report sa elance yung client ones na hindi sya maganda makipag transact. Eventually, Elance and Odesk merge their company, and they call it what we know today as Upwork.com.

E. EXTENSIVE CATEGORIES WITH MORE THAN 70 TYPES OF JOB.

Artists can choose among different job categories ranging from illustration, graphic designing, up to 2d/3d animation. Sometime nakahanap pa nga ako ng job post and client just want to hire someone who can finish the game he’s playing and save its progress intro card reader. Upwork time tracker application will automatically do a screen shot of your work every 10 min-utes and will upload it to your time sheet as a proof of your work log. And another feature that I really like is, kahit mawalan ka ng internet connection, time tracker will still work and upload screenshots later ones na magkaron ulit ng internet connection. And if totally halos hindi na bum-alik ang connection, you can use the Add Manual Time method. Meaning, ikaw ang bahalang mag take ng screenshots for every work in progress mo and upload it later. You just have to noti-fy your client kung pwede kang gumamit ng manual time tracking due to some troubles.

H. TOP RATED FREELANCERS PROGRAM.

They have this program in which freelancers can receive an exclusive invitation to submit pro-posals while they keep on sending you a job digest email to make it easier for you to find attrac-tive opportunities. Number two, as a top freelancer, upwork will put a badge in your profile which really attracts more clients.

HOW TO CREATE AN UPWORK ACCOUNT?

1. Go to http://www.upwork.com and click SIGN UP.

2. After clicking the sign up button, this will appear next. Fill up everything then click GETSTARTED button.

3. Choose WORK AS FREELANCER and fill up everything highlighted in red. You must checkthe YES I UNDERSTAND AND AGREE TO THE UPWORK TERM OF SERVICE. Then click NEXT.

4. Upwork will have to verify your email.

So go and check your email inbox. Then click the link highlighted in green to proceed.

5. After you click the link sent to your email, Upwork will bring you to this page.

a. On WHAT IS THE MAIN SERVICE YOU OFFER TO CLIENT, click the dropdown listand choose your service.

b. On WHAT SKILLS DO YOU OFFER TO CLIENTS? enter your skills e.g. digital illustration,adobe photoshop, adobe illustator, graphic design, etc. Then choose your LEVEL OF EX-PERIENCE and CLICK SAVE & CONINUE.

6. After filling up your services, you are now ready to create your upwork profile and here’s theoverview.

b. Add your professional title and write a professional overview.

c. Add education, employment history, and english proficiency.

d. Set your hourly rate.

d. Enter your address and phone number. Then finally, click the REVIEW APPLICATIONbutton.

f. Wait for 24 hours until upwork notify you if your profile is approve or not.

YOUR CHECKLIST FOR A 100% COMPLETE FREELANCER PROFILE.

In order to have 100% complete freelancer profile, you have to click VIEW PRO-FILE (the green text with the eye icon beside) and check the following:

* Upload a nice PHOTO.

* Make your TITLE precise.

* Fill up the OVERVIEW

HOW TO APPROVE ON UPWORK?

Since Elance.com and Odesk.com merged together as Upwork.com, naging mas-mahirap nang ma-approve for the first time na magcreate ka ng upwork profile. So I suggest to do the following below. This is not a 100% guarantee, although you can tweak between these different options until upwork approves your profile.

a. Take a relevant test

b. Editing your profile itself.

c. Upload a better picture.

d. Change by adding and removing skills.

e. Resubmit your profile and repeat the steps above.

How Will You Get Paid?

LINK YOUR PAYPAL ACCOUNT OR USE YOUR LOCAL BANK ACCOUNT.

1. Click the ARROW ICON (next to your name).2. In drowpdown list click SETTINGS.3. Then under the USER SETTINGS, click the GET PAID.4. Then click the ADD METHOD under PAYMENT METHODS section.

5. Choose DIRECT TO LOCAL BANK (PHP)

6. Enter the BRSTN CODE from you card.

I suggest you apply for a debit card with the logo of visa. Personally I use EON card.

HOW TO WIDRAW MONEY FROM UPWORK?

1. Hover the mouse cursor to REPORTS. Click OVERVIEW then click the AVAILABLE.

2. In AVAILABLE tab, click the GET PAID NOW button.

3. Click the ARROW icon. Choose your LOCAL BANK ACCOUNT or your PAYPAL.

4. In AMOUNT section, you can either enter a specific amount or choose availabe amount towidraw all the money. Then click the GET PAID button.

After clicking the get paid button, a WINDRAW CONFIRMATION will apear next as shown in the image below.

1. Click the ARROW and choose SETTINGS in the dropdown list.

2. Under user settings, click the GET PAID. Then click the VIEW PAYMENT under thepayment details section.

How to Search a Job?

HOW TO SEARCH A JOB FASTER?

1. Modify the MY JOB FEED section.

I made a screen shot of my actual upwork profile and as you can see, I have different catego-ries under MY JOB FEED (highlighted section at the left side). I use to click one of these cate-gories para hindi ko kelangan mag type sa SEARCH BOX (highlighted section at the top side) every time na gusto ko mag search ng job.

To do that,

a. Type a keyword (job that you want) on search box and press enter in your keyboard.

b. Click the save search button (highlighted area in the right top side).

c. Click the FIND WORK to go back and see if your search has been added under the MY JOB FEED section.

2. Modify the MY CATEGORIES section.

a. Located at the buttom part of my job feed section. Click the pen icon.

b. This pop up window will appear. You can add or remove by checking and unchecking theboxes beside the name. Click save ones you are finish.

That’s it! Just use by clicking those categories under MY JOB FEED and MY CATEGO-RIES SECTION for a faster job search.

Part 4

How to Apply a Job?

There are 2 types of job in upwork. One is hourly base project and one is a fixed price project. Let’s start on applying to a hourly base project first.

APPLYING FOR HOURLY BASE PROJECT.

1. Click the NAME OF THE JOB POST (highlighted in blue).

(If you’re not sure, just click the HEART ICON to save the job and hover the mouse cursor to FIND WORK and click SAVE JOBS.)

2. Before clicking the SUBMIT A PROPOSAL BUTTON (the green button) review everythingfirst. I highlighted the important parts to check before you send a proposal.

a. Check how many connects do you have (located below the submit proposal button)

Your connects serves as a token. As you can see, this job post only requires 2 token or 2 connects and I still have 60 connects. So use your connects wisely everytime you send a job proposal as you only have very limited number of connects you can use.

b. Check if your skill level is qualified.

Obviously, all skill level is welcome to enter here except with the entry level.

c. Check your job success score

So here, client wants a freelancer with 90%+ job success.

To check your job success score, go to find work and click view profile as shown in the im-age below.

And here where you will see the job success scrore in your profile.

d. Lastly, check the payment history and some recent feedback from clients past freelancers.If you find everything sounds good to you. Then you may send a job proposal.

3. After clicking the submit proposal button, you will be directed into this page as shown below.So fill up everything such as your HOURLY RATE and COVER LETTER together with your ATTACHMENT OF SAMPLE WORKS. Then hit the SUBMIT BUTTON.

After clicking the submit button, upwork will now show you the details of your proposal shown in the image below. If you want to change something, just click the CHANGE TERMS button or click the WIDRAW PROPOSAL button if you change your mind.

APPLYING FOR FIXED PRICE PROJECT.

Sending a proposal for a fix price projects is as same as in hourly base projects. But it has a different TERM as shown in the image below.

1. HOW DO YOU WANT TO BE PAID? section.

a. By milestone - devide the projects into smaller segments, called MILESTONE. You’ll bepaid formilestone as they are completed and approved.

In filipino, this is what we call a “down payment” for each progress of the work. Each pay-ment will be manage by upwork’s ESCROW (serves as a middle man) and will only be release every time a freelancer submits a partially finish work. But of course, escrow will going to check first if the client are satisfied with your work in progress before they release the money.

b. By project - get the entire payment at the end when all work has been delivered.

2. HOW MANY MILESTONE DO YOU WANT TO INCLUDE? section.

For example, a client wants you to create a website. You can describe your milestone to,

1st milestone: Landing page: due date is oct 1, 2018: amount is $50

Just click the ADD MILESTONE (highlighted in green at the buttom left corner) to add addition-al milestones.

2nd milestone: Blog page: due date is oct 2, 2018: amount is $100

3rd milestone: About page: dues date is oct 3 2018: amoint is $25

3. TOTAL PRICE OF PROJECTS includes all milestones, and is the amount your client will see.

UPWORK SERVICE FEE is around 20% of your milestone’s total price. Below shows the cli-ent budget,which is $400. So YOU’LL RECIEVE a total of $320 after the upwork service fee.

USE UPWORK TIME TRACKER APP.

When working on a hourly base projects, you should have upwork TIME TRACKER desktop app installed in your computer.

Go to FIND WORK then click the TRACK TIME WITH THE DESKTOP APP to download the upwork time tracker desktop app.

HOW DOES TIME TRACKER WORK?

The time tracker will keep track of the number of keyboard and mouse clicks you make as well as take a screenshot every ten minutes or so. The time that you clock will be automatically billed to the client.

HOW TO USE TIME TRACKER?

1. Enter your user name and password.

2. Click a client that you want to work with.

3. a. Just click the ARROW if you want to go back

to the list of your clients.

b. Log-in your time by clicking the ON/OFFbutton.

c. Update your work description by clicking theWORK ON:.

d. Click the TODAY (DAY) or VIEW WORKDIARY to view your work diary as shown in the image below.

e. Click the THIS WEEK to see your work inprogress as shown in the image below.
